Megyn at 35:18 talks about him being so dumb because he left his wife's purse, keys, shoes and car at home. I think it's quite probable he planned to come home after work and take care of those things to make it seem like she left with the kids. He thought he had more time before anybody discovered they were gone. But Shanann's friend called the police while he was at work and foiled his plan.

So he got caught but I firmly believe he was going to stage it like she took the kids and ran off

I think he possibly wanted to be caught. Possibly, he just wanted out, one way or the other. He knew he was going to fail the polygraph. He knew he shouldn't be talking to police without a lawyer. I don't think he thought he was going to get away with it at all. He just wanted that life to be over.

Atkinson had called Chris first & he told her he’s on his way home & don’t call the cops. She called the cops anyway because he didn’t show up & there were too many clues-car was still in garage, her favorite shoes were next to the front door, she didn’t show up at the doctor’s, etc. Chris was so stupid-he canceled the girls school that morning & called the realtor to put house on sale that same morning. Even if he was able to retrieve her phone, clean up, etc.-his actions of canceling school & putting house on sale without the realtor talking to Shan’ann also. His neighbor knew Chris never parked in the driveway because the garage door makes too much noise & wakes the girls up. The police brought cadaver dogs to check the house but never checked his truck? He didn’t want any entanglements with kids & had to rid of them & start over with Nikki.

He did not count on her friend being so insistent on finding her and notifying the police, she knew immediately after entering the house that something was wrong! He thought he had all the time he needed to cover things up. Her friend was her hero.

Nikki was the key to getting this looked into so quickly, and Nate, their neighbor, was awesome getting his home security footage noticed! I wouldn't wish what happened to Shannan, Bella, and CeCe on anyone. Except maybe the monster(s) that did it. ...I still believe Nichole Kessinger played a large role. Not just in having an affair with Watts, I actually feel she was involved in the actual murders. I wish he would have been kept in Colorado. There is some serious jail house justice he has coming.

I don't think he hated his wife. I think he was perfectly happy with her until he was seduced by Kessinger. Nicole Kessinger totally sought him out. I also believe she was in some sort of dark cult. I think Shanann was his first really serious relationship, and they went right into marriage and babies and lots of debt. I think he was blown away by the experiences he had with Kessinger. It was all the things he loved to do, like baseball games and car shows and also all the things he had never done, like camping and surfing at the dunes. Kessinger was showing him a simple, carefree lifestyle where materialistic things didn't matter. He was so stressed about debt and paying for his fancy house and fancy thing that he was swept off his feet by the idea of what life with Kessinger would be. She didn't care about having a big fancy house. She didn't need a Lexus. It's almost like he was possessed. I don't think he realized he might want something different until he tried something different. Also, he was chubby and not so attractive when he was dating Shanann and when they got married. His muscular, fit body was pretty new. I don't think he was used to women looking at him twice. Physically, Shanann was way out of his league. It's is kind of creepy how similar the two women looked. He definitely has a type.

My sister dated a guy (Bill) in high school for 2 years…our families were friends. After they stopped dating they all remained friends. Even After both My sister & her ex-boyfriend we’re married they all remained friends. The ex boyfriend’s parents had an annual Christmas party for years …by this time both couples had been married 30 years (had grown children & grandchildren). Then Bill ( a favorite school teacher of 16 years at the same school) had an affair with a co worker. Bill’s wife found out & the affair ended (supposedly) but 6 months later when it was found out that the affair hadn’t ended- Bill’s wife decided to file for divorce ( she had kept it a secret but had confided to a couple friends in which one was her neighbor… And when she planned to tell Bill, she had texted with The Neighbor and said I’m gonna tell him… A couple hours later the ambulance pulled up, and the neighbor was concerned and found out that Bill had shoved his wife down the steps, and said he that she tripped at the story fell apart. There was bruising around her neck, where she had been strangled, and then thrown down the stairs…then on several computers he had done multiple searches on how to kill your spouse. He is currently in prison. You just never know😱

Hearing how he detached himself really freaked me out. My ex husband did exactly the same thing. I decided to leave within the day and take our son and pets with me. It was just after the ascot Pedersen case so I was alert to what could happen. I was devastated and tried by phone to talk to him but he 💯 shut down and detached from us in such a short time. We never found out why this happened either. It haunted me for years that someone I loved and was married to for 9 years would behave this was very disturbing and out of character. He changed so rapidly that when we left we hid and kept our phone new number private. Over the years people that knew him told me he was depressed and very detached. He stayed single for 10 years after the divorce and then found a woman that looked like me on the internet. They married quickly but it didn’t last either. Sad part was that he was the love of my life. What a shame!

One of the scariest things to me is that Chris worked all morning at that sight acting completely normal after what he’d just done and also that his dead babies were mere feet away in those oils tanks. He was normal, that’s what’s scary. Also, i know everyone needs some 100% answer as to why but Chris told and showed you all on your that interrogation tape. As they broke him and he admitted one of the first things he said was “please don’t think I’m this horrible person” he’s been so soulless his entire life that his abnormal and psychotic self worth was entirely weighted in how others viewed him. Therefore rather than the shame and embarrassment he’d get from cheating and leaving his preg wife and kids it was profoundly easier to have them not be alive than to know what a liar and fraud he was.

Oh God, I spent 2 years down the Chris Watts rabbit hole. I’ve poured over every page of discovery, read every text, watched all the police bodycam footage & interviews/polygraph/interrogation videos from start to finish (multiple times!). I’ve pondered over witness statements, body language analysis and micro-analyzed the neighbor’s security camera footage and all kinds of theories with other web sleuths. I’ve read every post and watched every video Shannan made, and I’ve battled heartless victim blamers, ugh! I, Ike so many others out there drove myself mad desperately trying to understand why this seemingly decent, milquetoast man could do something so egregious! Before I walked away from this case for good, I could only conclude that he was just a slimy little coward who couldn’t handle confrontation. And his wife came home that night ready to shatter his new dream life now that she had proof he was having an affair. He knew it the minute she texted about the restaurant bill. Shanann wasn’t going to let that go and he knew it. Killing her was easier than admitting he had another woman. I don’t believe for a minute he ever told her. And I don’t think the children fit into his vision of his dream life with NK which is why he killed them. He wanted a brand new start. All this because he lost some weight, got fit and finally became the guy who got the attention from the “hot girl at the office”. I think he was living in a high state of limerence during those weeks Shannan and the kids were away in NC and became completely hooked. It would have been like a powerful drug to him. It’s why he turned cold the minute he landed in NC for that last week. He resented being pulled away from his shiny new perfect life. It would have been eating away at him how much he wanted to be free. Not just of his family, but of his financial burden too.

Women who have this pathetic knack of morphing into their guy’s dream girl to pry them away from the wives/girlfriends. And most of the time they don’t even want the guy. They just want the validation of knowing they ‘could’ have them. This investigation was so tight I believe if she had even the slightest bit of involvement in the actual crime, they would have uncovered it. Her crime was knowing full well this man was married with small children and a baby on the way, and there was a wife who loved this man and thought their marriage was solid. Hey Megan, Beth, my wife 47 years ago I knew her three weeks knew I was going to marry her. We were married seven weeks after that I know we live in a different time but it shouldn’t take anyone two years figure out whether or not the guy or woman wanna spend the rest your life. I think that’s what’s wrong in today’s society. The both of us agree marriage has been one of the hardest things. Either one of us has had to do the good times outweigh the bad. We have seven children together All of them are productive part of our society. Now that I’m retired and so is she, she retired from being a housewife and a mother I retired from a corporate job that I had for 35 years. We now travel the world and are extremely happy. I can honestly say I love her more than I did the first time I saw her if that makes any sense. Thanks for read my comment.

I completely agree. I've posted something similar on another video before, but something I've noticed with men who turn out to be monsters is that their mothers coddle & enable the sons. Cindy seems narcissistic & her volatility probably negatively affected Chris, but what's worse than her volatility is how she never, ever let Chris feel like he was ever capable of anything bad. She made him believe he was perfect & I believe this fostered in him this deep sense of selfishness where he thought he could do & behave anyway at all & it was ok. Hence he murdered his family, & his mom didn't even believe he did it despite the evidence. Very twisted & sad family & an example of how important it is to hold children accountable so they grow up understanding consequences, repercussions, & empathy.

I see this a bit differently. I don't think there were any signs of being capable because he was actually planning to stage a scene to cash in insurance. But his plan fell apart. Very few people seem to think along these lines. Trying to stage a scene is entirely different from labelling someone a psycho or family annihilator. None of us know what happened and he has given several different variations of a story. But if you ask me, my theory is the one that's correct here.

Or he has some angry, controlling, aggressive tendencies, or mental illness. There was none of that. He was a great father.

@@Slakker79 Chris said he tried to poison her or give her something to cause her to miscarry. But we really can't trust anything he says because it changes almost daily. At his sentencing Shanann's father said he saw the video of him carrying the children out the house "like trash". But in his 2019 'confession' (if that's what you call it) he said he took them to the oil site alive, and this was also believed to be true and accepted by the family. So which one was it? Regarding hum not showing any warning signs. That's because I don't believe there were any. In my opinion he was prepared to kill them in a premeditated, calculated and planned manner by staging a scene. That is entirely different from someone who is unbalanced and flipped out. We all know CW probably couldn't bring himself to do this to his own kids which is why many suspect others helped him but he fully wanted them dead. IMO the fact he may not have put hands on them himself was enough to think he may be able to dodge the lie detector test which he knew would have happened eventually. I believe we wanted and needed money and was prepared to lose all his family by staging a scene to make it look like they were killed. But it fell apart. It didn't work. We will never know why. The end result was bodies at Cervi and left to dispose of them. The tanks were the only solution. The fact Shanann remained there tells you he was left alone by that point and physically couldn't move her. It was game over. I'm not looking for anyone to agree but that's how I see this case.

Ms. O'Toole states it perfectly: "We are not raised and we are not trained for what to look for." We fall in love with someone, and that's enough for most of us to jump in with both feet. Even when we get red flags, we don't know enough to recognize them. Kids need to learn about the grooming tactics of dangerous narcissists and sociopaths in junior high school or high school, just like they learn about physiology and sex. None of this would have helped Shanann and her girls - Watts took years to reveal who he really was.

Nicole Atkinson was smart to trust her woman's intuition that something was wrong and decided to alert the police when she saw numerous red flags to indicate that Chris was lying to her: Shannan's Lexus was still in the garage, Bella and Celeste's car seats were in the garage, and Shannan's shoes were still by the front door. It sickens and angers me to learn that Shannan's family has been subjected to harassment, intimidation and threats of violence against them by Internet trolls and by people who for some inexplicable reason have sympathy for Chris. This is why I would support the passage of a piece of legislation Shannan's family is trying to pass: Shannan's Law. By definition; Shannan's Law would force social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, KZread, etc) to stop the harassment and intimidation of family members of those who are victims of violent crimes.

I have no word for his brazenness, trying to pin his already deceased wife with killing her own children. Even to this day he has had numerous appeals regarding his sentence, thinking he will have a chance of being released someday.A fantasy he may have gotten from the justice system in Europe (which is where i was born & raised),where "Life Sentence" means about 20 years and with good behavior/being a role model inmate can get you out in about 10.
