I think the word you are looking for is “terrifying!’ Not horrible, it’s a subtle difference but horrible means you won’t like it but you can’t look away.

Like I tell people. If it’s not raining like this, the weather isnt that bad. I’ve seen it rain so hard before, you could t see more than 5 feet in front of you. Now that’s bad.

Man when I was a child, living in a house with a ten roof on it, it was so pleasant to hear the raindrops beating down on it, followed by the smells of honeysucker flowers, fresh cut grass, sweet smell of watermelons, canterlopes, tomatoes, maypops, trumpetflowers, myrtle trees, and earthworms. Man I would walk out in it to get cooled off, because I knew when it stopped it was going to get hot again, sometimes I would go to the nearest ditch and watch the water rushing down to wherever, in my neighborhood , the water always ran throughout open ditches, and everything else, that was the negative side of living in a Black neighborhood... in the White neighborhood there were big water tubing underground and proper drainage, that was the positive side of living in a White neighborhood, then there were the mosquitoes!! After a long and hard rain storm, hundreds of them, and people used to wonder where did all these mosquitoes come from? Pickup trucks use to go throughout Black people neighborhood just spraying everywhere trying to kill off the mosquitoes every summer after a rain storm or on very hot days and nights. They discovered that the mosquitoes were living in the open ditches in Black neighborhoods, well happy to say this, 95% of the ditches was closed with drainage pipes not as large as the ones in the Whites neighborhoods, I'm talking about 70 some years ago, that's how long since they been there, so whenever it rain big time in my hometown, major flooding.
