If the building owner was wanting the mod so the noise created by the lifts would be reduced, then that has gone really badly. The fan for the logic in the shaft is louder than any 3rd gen EcoDisc main logic fan I've ever heard. One of these days you should go back and accidentally put all the generics onto inspection and leave them like that, that'll show the building owner how bad the lifts are, none of the modded ones will be able to run until an engineer puts them into normal. :P

Maybe the generic lift company was annoyed by the proprietary lock controller and couldn't jailbreak it. Maybe there aren't competend or not certified on Kone gear? Maybe it's out of warrenty and not supported anymore? (Kind of unlikely though but I've heard Shindler can't be bothered supporting their old gear). I bet it's got something to do with money, building owners want cheap service and Kone/OTIS/Shindler/Mitsubitshi service comes at a more premium price. Personally it's just the same as with cars, as long as you still got the manufacturer's warrenty you better go an official dealer and get genuine parts. But if you got a clunker that's on the brink of M.O.T. failure you go to a cheap chop shop to get you car fixed even if they use no-name parts. Building owners can be pennywise-pound foolish when it comes to lift maintaince and other maintaince things. Facility managers ask for a few quotes and compare prices, the cheapest usually get's the job.

I was thinking it was something like that. The generic company (which I seem to remember is Apex) probably doesn't have much experience with Kone. They probably said that they were unable to work with the lift as the logic is locked (even though there is a hack available online). They probably also told the building owner lies about reliability and they told the building owner that they would be doing mechanical work on the lift which is a complete lie. I had a close look at everything while I was on top. Nothing mechanical about the lift has been touched. They put a leister controls in at the top of the shaft. Removed Kones position system and replaced it with 2D barcode tape, and replaced the LCE repeater board in the cabinet with some leister crap. The building owner most likely doesn't understand much about the pros and cons of different logics and does not know any better than what the lift company says. I am planning on doing a video of unlocking a LCE CPU in the future.

Yeah it’s probably so they can use equipment that they support equipment that they are familiar with as Kone make their equipment very proprietary just so they can make it so only they can maintain the lifts

When its going only one floor its almost as slow as ecodisc inspection speed.

My building has Mitsubishi from 2000’s and still working fine :D Not OEM maintained....

if i owned kone i would make the motor only compatible with kone branded logic so whenever the little lift modernisation people come they would have to replace everything and then the building owner would be like well heck if you have to replace everything then ill just keep the old one.

If you think that's bad, you should try out the lifts at Princess Quay in Hull... Otis lifts that have had their buttons replaced with a part refurb and part awful placing - the buttons on both lifts are screwed in!

You should have 'broken' the lift, would have shown the hotel how shit the lifts really are.... I have been in the old ones I know where that is, good thing they haven't modernised the single one around the other side of the building

Please, forgive me, Beno.... Let the Ecodisc turn back....

Large chains usually have a regional/national service contract for their lifts etc. This applies even if they rent the building ( I worked in a unit in a shopping centre that had Otis lifts maintained by Kone [although given how bad the company I worked for was I am surprised they did not get Stannah], the other lifts in the centre were maintained by the center themselves. I would have thought that the Premier Inn estates department would know when they are being conned by a supplier and avoid pointless work.

If a lift takes 10-15 seconds per floor in a building how slow is it? Also the same lift moves vertically when I shift my weight around, idk if it's the floor or the car.

Coding Ethan Probably 0.25 m/s, because most 1 m/s lifts take 5 secs between each floor. If you half that, you have 10 secs and 0.5 m/s. Half it again and you have 15 secs and 0.25 m/s.

Timed the lift today, turns out not as slow as I thought, actual stats, actual figures below. Using the calculations above, must be about 1/ms accelerating slowly. Used stopwatch and pressed lap when the elevator announced 'Going Down', since it does that every floor. 5th to 4th - 10s 4th to 3rd - 5.6s 3rd to 2nd - 5s 2nd to 1st - 5s 1st to ground - 4.5s.

Its an Absolute Position encoder Strip, on the left and right edge you have the Clock Signal, in between there is Data in a custom pattern to determine the position of the Car in the Hoistway.

Was the reason for the modernization the existing Kone elevators were making too much noise? So they swap out the original logic controller for some "generic" one not compatible with the drive of the Kone system? Yeah, the access panel was a half-a job with a cable just hanging there. Like putting the wrong type of gas in the tank engine knocking. That elevator is very rough in start/stop.

how old are these elevators anyway? If anything the "modernization" made a fully functioning elevator a disaster leaving an expensive repair to get it back into shape.

The Kone Monospaces at my shopping mall were just 10+ years old and Kone decided to mod them with Dewhurst fixtures. Only difference is that they have newer LCE logic and have the same speed before the mod came into place. But this has gone worse than normal, it’s PAINFULLY SLOW and doesn’t feel like a real Kone. Also I do like it before the mods because they feel like Minispaces for 10 floors.

To be brutally honest, it looks like it gets to your floor in pretty good speed. I’ve never seen a lift that is really fast, so maybe I am just used to the speed of regular elevators.

I don't know why people are in such a rush it's still faster than using the stairs and at the end of the day who gives a crap if it takes 2 seconds more to get from one floor to another. It's also slower and therefore more efficient so hey who knows what the guy that made this video for when he made it. Slower means less energy and more efficiency don't know why he is making such a big deal of nothing I don't think anyone cares if they get to the floor just a tad later.

They only modernized one lift when it actually is a set of lifts, which just shows the stupidity of generic lift companies.

Yes cuz about the lift In M&S in Winchester had a Kone M series but they been modernised by Jackson lift group how it is you know it has please mind the doors doors closing how it is Stupid Jackson is very very stupid and Cheap lift and it’s not even interesting to ride it so not good for us to ride it.

It makes me so angry seeing things like this, it's disgusting where we live in a world where money comes before anything else. Could be maybe to do with the fixtures falling off or breaking? Kone's buttons aren't the most durable, and last time you rode this it was making an awful squealing noise while travelling, do you think they could have used that as an excuse?

The wheels were loud on the right hand lift. That is the non modernized ecodisc that I surfed and the problem had been fixed. Nothing mechanically has been changed with this modernization.

they are. modernising an ecodisc is fixing something that isn't broken, which therefore means breaking it

Whoever commission that lift .didn't do a good job . That lift needs retuning.. or the, V3 f drive could be faulty

There used to be a nice set of 2 M Series Schindlers at my nearest public pool, T shaped glass ones, recently they were replaced by the shittiest generic ever, it goes 0.5 fucking m/s, it jerks when u start WHAT THE FUCK
