Hornby Ringfield motor upgrade kit fitting tutorial. Part 2 - Wiring for DCC.

Video tutorial on how to wire up your Ringfield motor upgrade kit for use with DCC.
Part 1, which is the fitting video guide, can be found here... • Video
The motor kits can be purchased on eBay here... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143867454959
Other parts used in the fitting can be found as follows...
Thin black wire - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143841416225
Black tack - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143867362024
DCC 8 pin socket / PCB - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223670776213
LaisDCC decoder and stay-alive unit - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192671932108
CV settings used for motor control...
CV29 = 2
CV3 = 20 (acceleration rate - increase value to make acceleration slower / smoother)
CV4 = 4 (deceleration rate - increase value to make acceleration slower / smoother, however you have less control of where the model stops)
CV2 = 2 (min speed value)
CV6 = 15 (mid speed value - should be 1/4 - 1/3 of the max speed value)
CV5 = 60 (max speed value - increase value to make top speed higher)
Although these are not numerical order, I suggest making those CV adjustments in the above order.
A CV calculator from Digitrax, which is a very handy tool to save, is below...

Some useful links that will go into more detail about how DCC works, CV programming and DCC conversion are below...

    Excellent video. I wish I had seen it before buying some of the cheaper Hornby DCC decoders

    What better way to learn about hard wiring than to see an expert demonstrating it. This video is absolutely excellent and since my local model shop is no longer converting locos, and has converted 8 of my old locos already, I shall be able (I hope), to do this myself. All I need is some heat shrink cable! Top drawer.

    Hi Mark, that was so informative and put over with clarity. I already have your motors on order and will be getting the Lais decoder and the PCB connection later today. Barry.Devon

    Great, clear video, thanks: just a couple of points...1) Your hot soldering iron, which is at hand, is a much better, safer, heat source for heat shrink tubing; and 2) My son is a dentist and is having kittens watching you bare wires with your teeth! - a few seconds with proper wire insulation strippers might save you a lot of time and expense later in life. Time will tell. 😁😁

    Haha yes I have since invested in some decent wire strippers 😬

    Great video Mark. However, the link to the "Decoder and Stay Alive" appears to be missing, it just goes to the 8 pin socket. Regards Charlie.

    Any chance you are considering selling to us in Australia, I am having difficulty obtaining ringfield motor spares where in fact the postage from some suppliers is such that buying a complete loco would be cheaper. I have a Hornby Hymek, a Lima Warship a Western all could do with upgrading and eventually DCC conversion plus a few Dapol diesels. Bill in Canberra

    Hi Mark, That is very interesting. I have a Hornby Class 25 which is going to get 'the treatment'. Do you happen to know whether the Lais supports sound as I would like to fit a small speaker as well.

    Sorry but Lais does not support sound.ie they dont make sound decoders.If you connect up the 8 pin socket, as mark has, you can plug in another sound decoder, very easily,later.

    Hi. I watched part 1 and 2 and I was wondering if these kits could be used with old Lima engines. I have about a dozen of the old Lima Italian engines. Most if not all, are Bo-Bo engines. Cheers.
