Hornby Class D49 "The Berkeley" Traction Tyres and Endoscope Experiment
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Jimmy who sent me the "Sir Nigel Gresley" A4 recently also sent me this Hornby D49 to have new traction tyres fitted. In this video I also experiment with close ups using a Depstech DS360 Borescope.

I am loving the new close up cam. Now we can all see the fluffage :)
The close ups Bill, are brilliant. Thank you.
My D49 (Cheshire) is a tender drive, but is still a superb runner. Endoscope shots are a game-changer. Wonderful innovation.
Endoscope is a great edition , nice to see everything so clearly..!
Great to see the close up work now... although was worried from the title that it might be a medical video. 😂
Nice surprise to wake up to with a fresh cup of coffee and hot blueberry muffins out of the oven. Thanks Bill.
It's like watching surgery without the blood and gore 😄 The endoscopic shots add a whole new dimension to your repair process. Very nice loco too. 👍
The close up view really works a treat. Great idea.
Brilliant - love the close up shots - will help so much with learning the detailed bits of what you do - you just now need to go back and re-shoot all your videos again with close ups in (I can't find a 'tongue in cheek' emoji 😆)
Long live endoscope! Love the close footage. Best wishes from Aotearoa New Zealand...
Hi OOBill - I thought that the close ups were particularly good - well done.
The endoscope is a really big help. I believe I've watched pretty much all of your videos, and it's always interesting to see how you deal with problems. But it's often been frustrating that it wasn't really possible to see exactly what you were dealing with, and what you were doing to it. The ability to insert shots that clearly show the details is a massive plus. Big thumbs up!
Those endoscope closeups are outstanding, Bill! Here as always from the USA (Michigan)
brilliant videos have just risen a notch with the cam... really well done...
Good to see you showing people the simple fixes too Bill. What might seem straight forward to some, might be a bit daunting for others. I think it encourages people to have a go. I have built up a nice fleet of Dublo and wrenn engines from cheap non runners by watching your videos. Absolutely loving the new views from the scope. 👍
Deploying the endoscope is most welcome thank you Dr. Bill. 👍
D49 a nice tidy engine . Endoscope looks good - never imagined I would say that !
The new endoscopy looks amazing, don’t think you need a 4K version, this one looks great.
Wow! - That’s Close up and personal - Like being in the Same room 😁 Major Fluffage, I hope you gave it a Good Skoosh 👏🏻 Gr8 Loco, Awesome work 👍🏻✨
I had one of these. It ran beautifully. Great loco for it's £60 price tag(at the time)
Endoscope vision, excellent Bill
Hi Bill, spotted your new figures and new cars. Great video as usual 😊
Now you can perform trainoscopies with ease. Love the close up work.
When they came out these loco driven versions of the 4-4-0 series of locomotives were excellent value for money. A bit more robust with less fine detail than today’s new models, but superb locomotives for your model railway.
Congratulations on the addition of the endoscope! Makes things much clearer - even though you've done them a hundred times, it would be worth seeing a close-up view of a Hornby Ringfield/Lima Pancake/X04/Triang Spider etc.
The endoscope is fantastic! Finally I can see up close 🎉
Dear Sir, Congratulations from Brazil! 🎂
I spotted the wee guy with the Orange body warmer I painted for my Dad. He was telling me he sent a couple of things to you. Nice to see it on a quality layout.
Nice one Bill! Always good to see a new repair by you and the endoscope is an excellent idea, apart from causing you so much extra work. Keep safe.
The close up camera is a great idea..... Really going to be useful .
Great new camera bill it ads even more enjoyment to your videos. Great work bill 👏 thank you.
Great video, excellent to be able to see the small parts and how they go together, very informative.
Great job with the new piece of kit Bill. Enjoyed that a lot.
Close up cam is a fantastic idea Bill.
The experiment was a success for us
This is an interesting new camera angle you're trying out here, and I honestly love it! The D49 is a nice looking model too, never knew they did a loco driven version!
Excellent video Bill - the close ups were great!
The new close ups are great!
Fantastic love the close ups. Great vids now become brilliant
Nice locos the D49s - I fit Marklin 7152 traction tyres to mine they give these lightweight locos far more grip than the Hornby tyres
Great job for first attempt with new camera. Keep going we are learning a-lot with you. Cheers Sir.
Hi 👋🏻 00Bill 😊 lovin the endoscope camera 📸 👍🏻
Marvellous view and demonstration of your touch
Another great video Bill, been watching and subbed for a while now. I've been using your vids as tutorials which has given me the knowledge and confidence to work on some of my own locos 👍🏻
Excellent video. Thanks very much. I like the new close ups.
Love the close ups
Brill the close ups work great
Brilliant new camera work!
The endoscope is a great addition, though I can see that it will add to the editing challenge.
fantastic new tool bill
Love the new camera
Somebody was having a joke picking "Berkeley" as a name for a "Hunt" class locomotive.
Very amazing exploration, thanks for sharing!
Love the close ups.
Great idea with the endoscope
New camera is fantastic!
Nice job!
There are very good locos the Hornby 4-4-0. I use 7152 Marklin tyres they are much better than the Hornby ones.
Great video as ever i got a couple of locos that need repair could you help? Got a hornby lord nelson which needs some new rods on one side and a k3 which needs a motor cant find one anywhere many thanks
Endoscope is a pretty nifty gizmo. HD is fine just to illustrate something, IMO dont need a 4K one as well...more expense
I agree with other commenters: the endoscope is brilliant. However, the shots where you're working, your hand movements are huge on the screen making it difficult to watch. And that D49 is great. I'm modelling North West Wales and Wrexham/Wirral, so LNER does have a presence - but not the D49 sadly.
Hi there Bill ,, I found that using straight air from an air compresor is good to blow out any extra fluffage or even just a qwik skwoosh of wd40 electrical cleaner will get most of the fluffage out. Also do you have a link to the brand or where you got your endoscope as i bought 1 off ebay and it was total garbage and would not even let me load the to my phone as it was a supiscous source and point blank refused to load the app that tney supplied. Yours looks like it works pretty good. Another easy fix and tne loco seems to run quite nicely. Cheers from John in Australia.
Excellent. You can carry out home colonoscopies now.
Have you considered using Bullfrog Snot for traction tyre replacement. I have used it successfully in N gauge rather than trying to undo things like minitrix valve gear, which is a nightmare.
Endoscope brilliant, but as you said time consuming
Is it an endoscope or an endosc00pe, Bill?
