@@j.rob.5943 Your standard .357 Mag is more on par with 9mm +P+ though, so yes, it will generally penetrate more. That's a lot more oomph behind it than your standard 9mm or even 9mm +P. Luckily, there's a lot of .357 (and .38) loadings so I'm sure you can find something that'll match your needs when it comes to over-penetration.

Yeah, there's a big range of good quality ammo between the cheap crap and the "premium" stuff that's... sometimes so overtuned and hardened that it doesn't perform right either unless it's in the special gun designed for jelly tests. I'm always astounded these days by the number of people who look down their noses at ammo from reputable manufacturers just because it doesn't have as much ad copy or cost as much as the "premium".

Paul, I appreciate the chronograph info because I like to see what the variation is from one round to another. IMHO, less variation lends itself to better accuracy. I have found this to be particularly true for rifle ammunition, but it also seems to bear out for pistol ammunition, but to a lesser degree. With some VERY carefully loaded hand loads, I have occasionally got the variation down to single digits (mostly with meticulously loaded .22-250) and the accuracy (if I did my part correctly) was consistently outstanding. Please continue to include the chronograph work, it’s very much appreciated!

I think of this every time I see the chrono testing: Back when I was working my first job, getting typical entry level paychecks, I often drooled over a certain shotgun at the local dealer - a gun I absolutely could not afford. It was a new Browning Superposed, and there was no way I could come up with the $630 they were asking. I also wanted a chronograph of my own, but that was like wishing for a new Rolls Royce. For what a chronograph sold for at that time, I could have purchased that Superposed and had the price of a Colt Python and several boxes of ammo still in my pocket. Not making this crap up! The price of electronics has gone down that much. Too bad gun prices went so far the other way.

The penetration on the CD surprised me. It is marked as a quick expanding bullet. The AG did well. The Rem load is the same one that dominated in the stopping power study, and was the darling of LE in the 70's and 80's, until the big switch to autos. Interestingly, the FBI fou d in their tests that it amost never met their 12" minimum penetration depth (usually about 10"). However, the results from hundreds of actual shootings did not lie. The reduced risk of overpenetration is a bonus. The full power 110 gr loads are very similar and also seem to work well. Great info as always

I know you’ve stated before how hard it is to get accurate data regarding “real world” use info. Here’s the little “real world” experience I have with 357 critical defense ammo. Back in 2012 I was working armored cars and was ambushed at a cash drop. I was carrying a four inch 357 mag loaded with critical defense ammo. We ended up about 3 feet apart trading shots into each other....yeah, not ideal. He was wearing a t shirt and light jacket and none of my rounds came out his back. I fired three shots, one going in his wrist and down his forearm then into his chest then two more in his chest. I was lucky to walk away that day with 9mm holes and no major damage. So whatever that’s worth I hope it helps

But running the streets of an armored car route to me was fun because it was a very fast paced job. Make no mistake your work your butt off. But I enjoyed most of the guys I worked with and like physical work. If you're switched on and know what your doing you can be as safe as possible...but it could always go sideways at any moment. Not likely but possible. On the other side of that sword the pay is not that great. And depending on which company you work for and your job in the field you could be working tons of hours. The more I promoted through management the more "political BS" I had to deal with and I cant stand that. I lost to much time with my first born and that's why I left the industry. My passion was when I was a crew chief/FTO and assistant firearms instructor. I loved training and teaching the new guys. And there are always a bunch of new guys as there is a pretty high turn over rate in the industry. If you have a good head on your shoulders, can operate well under pressure and danger and just want to try something different I say go for it. I do believe the reason behind the greater expansion, hence less penetration, of the Remington ammo is due to the "SEMI-Jacketed HP". The exposed lead at the tip seems to really make expansion very easy, based on other testing I have seen. It's much easier for the jacket to be peeled back with a semi-jacketed design (typically).

Also, Remington 125s are what I usually keep in my .357s (2 1/2" and 4" bbl). Make a good vid about pistol velocity does it matter real world even though "ballistic experts" claim temp stretch cavity doesn't matter until at least 2200 fps in some human tissues/organs and not completely throughout body until app 2600 fps often? For the Record I believe the best loads irregardless of recoil for those that can handle it shoot fast and accurately, I believe certain best .45 and 10mm loads can be just as effective DGU vs 2 legged as top .357 mag would you tend to agree???

Unless you only have opportunity for one shot before the threat drops behind cover, giving him another chance to kill you, even if he only has one working arm. See the Miami FBI shootout for an example.

@@jaxrexalus6101 yeah, that's an ugly example. Hopefully way outside most people's threat profiles, though.

I'm shocked, the critical defense line is usually not very good at penetration. It is a very interesting information, the remington still the one shot man stopper. This is a great example of why this tests are so useful. Thanks Paul, excellent presentation as always 👍

The .357 Magnum Critical Defense ammo asked me to respond on its behalf. It read your comments about penetration and thinks you may have it mistaken with its older brother, the .38 Special, or its European cousin, the 9x19mm Luger. The .357 Magnum Critical Defense ammo wanted me to assure you that it does not skip the gym, especially not on leg day, and that it will continue to walk through targets.

Really good upload time for us Europeans, perfect companion for my morning coffee, but yea would love to see a video explaining on why different ammunitions get differing velocities even if they are same grain and such, really interesting stuff.

Not only can different brands shoot differently, but different lots from the same manufacturer can vary significantly. During fall Deer Gun Sight-In Clinics, we always recommend hunters get sighted in with fresh ammunition and then go buy several boxes of the same lot (ah... the good old days). This is significant for longer range rifle shots and most shotgun deer slugs.

About the marketing of the channel: potential sponsors for the channel might be found in cures for insomnia, sleeping pills in particular, and european brands. Ending the video with a soothing music box tune might also be gentle to your american audiences. ( Or could use the Arte sheep ). Anyway, nice video as usual !
