I have to agree, absolutely perfect. Most build videos you dont get to see the finished product until the end and have to sit through endless shots of cutting and drilling etc. I know how to cut wood I know how to drill a hole I know how to sand, I don't need to see that. What I want to see is what we are heading for and the relevant steps for getting there. This video was exactly right, keep up the good work.

I know im late to the game but I just watched this last night and I concur with David Barr, I have watched thousands of hours of how to videos. I like to collect knowledge, and I have to say that your video is without a doubt the best how to video I have ever watched in my thousands of hours of KZread. You sir truly have a gift and people who know what you have created know. I used to think I was an Anna White woodworker but after watching this and seeing the incredible detail in your video I literally subscribed to woodsmith magazine haha. I agree with other commenters regarding the outstanding quality of both this how-to video and the build itself. This is one of the best DIY woodworking videos I have seen on KZread. Thank you for your attention to detail and to keeping everything as simple and clearly explained as possible. Your use of graphics to show dimensions and relationships between components was key to making this video understandable and useable. Your commentary was encouraging of the viewer and not too wordy. Thank you for sharing this video. I am now subscribed and look forward to viewing more from your channel.

The quality of your work is unbelievable! I consider myself a pretty good worker, but I must admit this project is very intimidating. So I built it after watching the video maybe 25-30 times. Had to change up some stuff because I bought a different size belt but the guts are identical. Gotta say. I absolutely love it. It eats, and I mean eats wood. I gotta be careful with it because it'll go to far in an instant. I made the drum sanding attachment different because I'm lazy as hell. But it's kinda permanently installed with the dust hood resting on top. I didn't have hinges so I just remove the dust good with a screw knob. So in the end. I gotta give this video a 20/10 for being so easy to follow and clearly explained 👌👌 and the machine itself is a solid 10/10. Now I just have to paint it haha

Hey!! I have to say, You have created THE BEST EVER WAY OF TEACHING HOW TO SOMETHING BUILD OUT OF WOOD. I am speechless. I enjoyed just watching your video but also as a beginner in woodworking but really goog quality woodworking shop established, now it is just about the maker, not the machinery. YOur instructions are really easy to follow and now that my workingshop is finally ready, I give You the honor to be the first ”teacher” and my very first project ever will be this edge belt sander with spindle sander option because this is a machine that my shop is lacking. My only big concern is that you show ALMOST in every phase also quickly the plans, i.e. The measurements of plywood and how to cut and drill them. But for example in the box-spring part, there was not these paper plans illustrated in the beginning. I am from Finland Europe and there is no easy way to get that particular Woodsmith magazine issue, in which those paper plans are shown. When I started to watch this video, I was full of hope that I do not need to make all of a sudden my own calculations but just follow the instructions and all the parts would then be a perfect fit. So are these paper plans available somewhere or these exact blue prints concerning your modified version of the machine so that I could get them from somewhere in the internet or could you send those plans through email or something. I would naturally want to pay for all the trouble but I do not know how. I did not find any internet pages of yours, where I could contact you. Could you please comment this message in some way and give some ideas how to get all the info or could you make a little extra edition of this great building process so that the paper plans before every part would be shown shortly on the screen so I can get the screen shot of those. That would make this ”how to build”- video a perfect teaching tool. Ever. I am already so gratefull for what you have given to the woodworking community wolrd wide. This is the beauty of youtube. Bringing alla Woodsmiths together and closer each other 🙏😊 Best regards, and Merry Christmas, Juhani from Finland

Wow! This is hands down one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen on KZread. You've got a side-gig going here but your editing skills, including the painstakingly detailed CAD images are fantastic. The narration, audio and videography were spot on. Thank you for the thorough "companion" video with a source reference. If you ever hit a slump, come back and watch this video because you hit it out of the park. **Edit** I actually subbed because of this video, FWIW. I sat there for a few moments and internalized what I had watched, for reasons beyond just enjoyment. I came to the conclusion that most other content pales in comparison and now the other KZread channels have lost their luster. 😳

Your editing and illustrations are outstanding!! I decided to take on this project and stumbled upon yours prior to start. I'm glad I did and it helped a bunch. I did, however, make a couple of modifications you and your subscribers may be interested in. First is the bottom of the table/work surface where the threaded rod that raises the work table meets. I felt that adding a small metal plate would help reduce the wear in to the plywood when the table is raised or lowered. Second is regarding the positioning of the knurled knob for belt tensioning. I felt the physical location was pretty close to the sanding belt, so before I "cut" the excess threaded rod (shown in your video), I drilled a 3/8" hole down the center of a 1" dowel rod that was about 2" long and slid it down the threaded rod....kind of like a spacer, making the knurled knob stick out a bit further.

Hi great design and commentary that gives such a good insight into your high standard of build you set yourself. Modest and quick to admit mistakes and shortcomings, that's not something we always see these days in the 'perfect world' the line that comes to mind is 'be true unto yourself'. I have to say that your format of using such good quality video mixed with the 3d cad graphics sets a new standard not seen before in build videos of this type. It's dramatically better than the majority of technical programmes seen these days on TV. Thank you so much for allowing us all to share in this keep up the good work. Roger L.

I wish I’d seen your video before I built my Woodsmith sander. You had some great ideas, and your presentation is superior. A couple ideas for you, now that I’ve been using mine: - When sanding a big surface, I sometimes use enough force that the machine moves a bit. Casters could make that a bigger problem (even if they lock). - The back of a sanding belt could wear through a plastic laminate platen over the decades. Most portable belt sanders have a steel platen, secured only on the edge closest to the ‘upstream’ roller. So I had a metal fabricator make a steel piece in place of the mdf/laminate piece. On the left edge, the steel has two 45 degree bends. One is 1/2” from the edge, and the second is 1/4” further from the edge. (That makes a “wrap” around the left edge). I cut a matching 45 degree edge on the plywood, then screwed the steel to the plywood, only on that 1/2” wide part. There are no screws or holes under or near the belt. The fabricator charged me $60. - Another guy who built this had the same problem with making the rollers as I did: the jig is too narrow to roll the octagonal-shaped blank. You must have fixed that, but I missed that in your video.
