Horde chess with commentary #2 (Pieces)

I'm playing a fun chess variant called Horde chess on lichess.org. More specifically, I'm playing with the standard chess pieces (black), whereas my opponent is playing with 36 pawns (white). The time control is set at 5|2. The objective for white is to checkmate black, and the objective for black is to capture all of white's pawns. A similar chess variant to Horde chess is Dunsany's chess or Dunsany's game. Would you rather play as the pawns or the standard chess pieces?

honestly seems like a deliberate tactic. in the previous vid black threw away any chance of competing by playing bad moves, only trying to put Jerry into further time pressure, but it's simply never an issue for him with an increment.

as a bullet player myself, i find it more practical to not allow time trouble to throw you off focus (i mean when you are down to 4-5 seconds with no increment, yeah, it gets edgy...), i have learned that its still better to try to make the best move rather than start trying to move anything anywhere quickly. and with increment like in this game, even more so!

@@looinrims - it's actually a stereotype that doesn't reflect reality anywhere near as much as many people think. Germans had the numerical superiority on the Eastern Front in the first year of the Operation Barbarossa. The USSR didn't really have much more manpower to throw at the war than the Axis, in 1942 the Axis population outnumbered the Soviet population in the Soviet-held territories (don't forget countries like Romania comitted a lot of troops to the Eastern Front too) and only 1.3 Soviet soldiers died per 1 Axis soldier during the war on the Eastern Front. The initial success of the Germans was much down to catching the Soviets off guard and their demise due to logistical problems, lack of resources like oil and the Soviets learning their lessons. Wehrmacht was the first army in the world to figure out the correct application of tanks in the warfare but as the WWII progressed, their enemies caught up in this regard and they no longer had tactical advantage. TheCold War followed shortly after WWII which shaped the perception of WWII in the Western World as the Soviet generals couldn't share their views on the topic the way many of the Germans generals did. Also the Nazi propaganda of superiority of the German nation still lived on in some people.

Without extensive calculation by computer the general strategy I read about and tried is that by moving some of your pawns move 2-3 adjacent pawns ahead so that you can create free "window" a column where the major pieces could go there and hide from advancing pawns like o outpost.

I know it's YEARS old the video, but at 8:45 the queen could've moved to E3 taking a pawn and have completely free access to the back row at C1 with no way to prevent it on white's side with no way to cut it off. Only way would've been moving F1 into F2, but that wouldn't stop the queen from being able to enter C1 unless you used the following turn elsewhere.

Wow, you even beat a 2055 player! Congrats! In my experience, it's actually much harder to win as the pawns. There's much less room for error and you have to make every pawn-push count. Draws are pretty intuitive; white can run out of legal moves.Black can survive on a King-and-Knight or King-and-Bishop ending,.. or just a king alone! (since that's all that's needed to capture pawns)

No, because it would be too unfair an advantage. The rooks would have about 5 times the firepower. A game like that would be lopsided.

The best strategy is to open a column on either of the sides and get your rock or queen to the last line of white and slaughter the pawns from behind!
