Hopeful for the future | Cyclothymia diagnosis story

I'm hopeful for the future, but still not even close to perfection! I feel like I'm bad at talking about most stuff, but especially difficult and multi-faceted topics like mental illness. But I try to speak according to my own experience (even though I've left out some things because this is hard and the camera got me super anxious). Oh well. I hope this clears things up at least a little bit. Thank you so much for the continued support and love. I can not express how it touches my heart every time I see a nice message or comment. xx Em

    I almost cried watching this. I have never related to a video as much as this one. Trying to figure out if I have cyclothymia. I am almost 21 years old and since I have ASD my parents are very overbearing and claim I am not bipolar/cyclothymic and I misinterpret everything. but I know myself better than my parents know me and I have been doing research and I am 90 percent sure I have it. I cannot get diagnosed and the help I need since I am on my parents' insurance and they will not help me get what I need and cannot drive either to get where I need :/ Glad you are doing well!

    You are such a Beautiful and Brave Girl! Your story really resonates with me. I lost my mom and sister, I struggle socially. I was just diagnosed with Cyclothymia last month, but I’ve had it my whole life. It feels so good to have a true diagnosis and be on the right medications for it. I finally have a reason to exist. Good Luck to you!

    What medication are you on if I may ask. I was also diagnosed and was on Topomax, although it worked it made me feel dumb and affected my job. Need help finding the right medication, mental health care in my country is poor.

    Thank you so much for this kind comment! I've also dealt with loss and struggled so much with making friends and having lasting connections with people. It's tough to deal with those things on top of having your mind be a constant, unending rollercoaster. Congratulations on your diagnosis and finding the right medication! It's such a relief to finally receive the help you need, and to finally be able to better understand and be empathetic towards yourself through a diagnosis. Good luck to you too!!

    Hi! thanks for sharing that, is very helpful. I have a dear friend who is been diagnosed with Cyclohtymia and i am trying hard to understand her. If you can help me understand some of it is very appriciated, i do care a lot for this person! I would like to know if there can be some sort of manipulative behaviour due to hypomania, and cognitive distortion when depress or feel attacked. Meaning she has the tendency to manipulate and push people arround to obtain favours (she is awere of that), also she would somethimes lie about facts or sligtly distort them, when under pressure, confronted or mad at me. Is this something you are familiar with? Thank you again

    As far as I know that's not a sign of cyclothymia, probably her way of coping. Or she could have the wrong diagnosis or another one. There's also people who have both bipolar and borderline personality disorder. I am not saying that's it, but the manipulation I think isn't a sign of cyclothymia. You could always Google it or ask her.

    @@writerwannabe8778 thanks for your feedback. i did ask to few friends psychologist and it turned out to be like you said some personality disorder. Tendency to adopt lies, controlling behaviour and manipulation as strategy to relate to problems and people, do to lack of empathy and difficulty in conceptualizing the other. It can be a consequence of bipolar issue, if the person doesnt develope better problem solving strategies, self extime ar emotional regulation skills. I can see now how difficult it is to cope with all that

    I thought cyclothymia would not go so deep down, sounds like your depression was a full blown one.

  • @zXJulianXz

    @zXJulianXz

    cyclothymia does not determine shallower depressions, but rather shallower manic phases called hypomania ONLY. You can have very severe depression, but if you do not experience full blown mania in which you experience psychosis, then you are cyclothymic, not bipolar.

  • @SomeOne-tc5rq

    @SomeOne-tc5rq

    @@zXJulianXz This is incorrect. You just described bipolar 2. You can have cyclothymia with very severe depression but that would mean you have "double depression". As in a depression on top of the depression from your cyclothymia.
