This has to be one of the darker episodes. You gotta admit the Destroyer’s realization that he was misled by Gabrielle and pitiful reaction to accidentally killing his own mother was heartbreaking.

Is that bad of me to think this is terribly sad? The Destoyer had the capacity of an infant, he just searched for his mother's love, he didn't understand this crap about Dehak or whatever. With taming, he could become maybe less violent. Such a waste. Dude, Hope was not good at this whole parenting gig, was she. In fact, she was really bad at it. Yet she kept bitching about Gabrielle being a terrible mom. Talk about hypocricy.

Hope clearly cared about him but couldn't handle affection. She'd never known it. Hugging her child while they were dying was a last accusation towards Gabrielle: "see how I love him, the way you never loved me". Hope was born with the instincts of a killer, and the only influences around her, her entire life, were enabling these instincts. I do believe it would have been different if Xena and Gabrielle had raised Hope: she clearly longed for her mother's love.
@Mehandes13
2 жыл бұрын
@@Mark-pl3bv I agree she was born with a killer instinct, but to tell she never knew true affection is inaccurate. Don't remember which and where, but I'm pretty sure it was said somewhere that she was shortly adopted. I mean, someone did take pitty on her enough to feed and shelter her. Either she grew up too fast or she killed her 'parents' is unclear. Would it be different to grow up with Gabrielle and Hope? interesting question, but I think the answer is no. I tend to compare hope to Samara from 'The Ring'. One parent (Anna Morgan) is compassionate, while the other (Richard Moran) wanted to just get rid of her and her satanic tendencies. Much like Xena and Gabrielle. At the end of the day, no matter who tried helping her, the inner nature of a killer was the one which took over.
Anyone else cry? A son gets a loving touch and is rejected. Then his confusion as he strikes back against her and realizes there's two.

Yes, great scene!
One of the best written scenes of the series. The pain in The Destroyers voice and face. It was so moving. This was sort of a clunky way to wrap up the Dahawk story line and before sending it over to Hercules, which I always resented, but this was such an epic episode with great twists, thrills, chills and superb acting all around! It's seriously iconic and extremely memorable for the fans.
@Mhtsos_Bardas

@Lee Brown Personally I loved that it was Hercules who dealt with Dahak himself. Hercules did say he wanted to deal with the evil that sent Callisto back in time and besides that Xena wouldn't stand a chance against Dahak so Hercules would have been involved inevitably. Also the Dahak storyline was so much better in Hercules than in Xena in my opinion.
@Mhtsos_Bardas
4 жыл бұрын
@Lee Brown I agree with you that it should end with Xena and Gabrielle, as it started. However, Dahak wasn't just a Pagan God like Ares, he was leagues above those. Remember that even the likes of Zeus, Hera and the Titans feared Dahak. Xena struggled with both Hope and the Destroyer and only defeated them by tricking them, even Krafstar gave her a hard time. There's nothing Xena could have done against Dahak, this was a fight that only Hercules could win. Besides that Hercules had a score to settle with Dahak after the events of "Armageddon Now". Fan Fact though, Xena and Gabrielle were meant to return in "Let There Be Light" to help Hercules exorcise Dahak from Iolaus but they were scrapped in favor of Nebula and Morrigan.

@@Mhtsos_Bardas I think the creators missed a perfect opportunity for Xena and Hercules to face Dahak together. Upon retrospect, the shows should have had MORE crossovers--maybe one each season--it's too bad they missed this opportunity. Hope is also Gabrielle's daughter so. Technically her grandson killed her
Even though Hope was accidentally killed by her own son. Hope looked to her mother ( Gabrielle) for not wanting to die. Gabrielle did love her daughter. But Hope was Goddess of evil. 🖤
The Destroyer has the mind and emotions of a small child, he's very immature. His body grew to adulthood, but his mind didn't. He's an evil, vicious killer and savage beast, but he does love his mom very much. He did have to be stopped, innocent people were being killed and hurt.

Jessie Guadarrama Hope could have been more interesting. It was clear that part of her character was human in the way she wanted Gabrielle’s love, and how she was curious about how Gabrielle was loved by everyone. While she failed miserably, she did love her child. If she was rewritten, she could have been a good case of nature vs nurture. Unfortunately that avenue was closed off twice. Once when Gabrielle had to send her away as a baby, and then when Gabrielle had to poison her. She never got the chance to nurture her free will. Part of free will is the simple decision of yes and no. While there was no guarantee that Gabrielle could sway her, it would have been nice to see that there was a chance.
