Nurse here. The body in space: lower gravity allows for the spinal column to decompress from the disks so you do get a bit taller, however bone density becomes decreased due to decreased gravity. Since the bones aren’t under as much stress, they absorb less calcium to strengthen and therefore become less dense and weaker. Think of osteoporosis: less calcium absorbed into bones leaving them weaker.

Quick summary of the Hong Kong situation as a Chinese Australian. So the thing with Hong Kong is that the British technically leased it from China for 99 years, although China didn’t really have a choice at that time since the British had already colonised it for some time and had won the Opium wars. In 1997, the British officially gave Hong Kong back to China after having owned it for 156 years, with China establishing it as a special administrative region for 50 years, and basically promoting to leave it alone for that time. However, the recent events began when China tried to subtly exert more control over Hong Kong, with many people taking to the streets in protest. This then led to various tussles between police and protestors, sparking debates about wanting independence from mainland China. Currently, the situation still isn’t resolved, since Covid has put a damper on it, but it may erupt again as China becomes more authoritarian.

As an American from PA (one of the most balanced states, politically and geographically speaking) I see a lot of both sides. Our SCOTUS decision on abortion, for example, sends the decision on whether or not it should b legal to the states. A few states outlawed it prior (in America, our states have strong government so the federal branch can’t bully us). Our gun laws, however, (as Zach also mentioned) are a national issue due to the fact that the constitution says (in the Second Amendment) that guns r legal (different people have different ideas on which guns should b legal). Generally, u can legally purchase any gun (except a handgun) at 18. U may purchase a handgun at 21. Handguns r used most of the time in a mass shooting which is also why our concealed carry laws r tight while we have background checks so that not every whacko can buy a gun. I wouldn’t call America messed up, I think it’s really cool here, but a lot of people complain, and those people r definitely the loudest on social media while a lot of the media is cringe anymore. They all basically turn one quote or decision to state that so and so hates so and so. With all that, I wouldn’t mind living in another English speaking nation like Canada, Australia, UK, or Ireland bc I wanna see what’s it’s all like. I just wish media and non Americans gave America a legitimately fair shot bc it’s not nearly as negative as u all might believe

This is exactly right. I see people from other countries talk about all the crazy drama that happens on social media but in reality you won’t really experience any of that in your day to day life. You wouldn’t think it if your only window into the country was the internet but pretty much everyone is very nice. There’s just some crazy people who can use Twitter as an outlet without consequences.

You asked about the Hong Kong thing, so here is an extremely simplified version. Basically back in the 1800s, the UK and Portugal took 2 islands from China (Hong Kong and Macau) in a war, and made a deal with China saying they would own the islands for 99 years. They thought what they would be able to do after 99 years had passed would be that they would take the islands back again by force. However eventually way more then 99 years passed and China had grown WAY more powerful then they expected, and was now more powerful then them. So, they were forced to give the islands back to China (with a few confusing laws such as how China basically had to leave them alone for a while) until around 50 years after that when China fully absorbed them again, so Hong Kong and Macau are “part” of China Now.

theres actually psychological research on circadian rhythms and peter's idea for an experiment has been conducted before. i cant remember that study specifically but a good one to look into is by siffre who stayed in a cave for a few months and tried to work out what day it was when he came out based on how many times he slept. turns out he was about a month off so the influence of light (an exogenous zeitgeber) is a genuine thing

For all of you who only know Amsterdam: it's Amsterdam, but better. Edit: 58:01 YEAAAH, MY MAN. The Netherlands is great. The circadian rhythm is actually 25 hours long. We were made to live on Mars. Also days were shorter when the dinosaurs were around. When the earth first formed, days were 4 hours long. The moon's gravity is slowing the spin. In a few million years days will be 25 hours

You wake up and go to work when it's dark out, work a full day indoors and then go to commute home and it's dark again. You miss all the sunlight unless you work an outdoor job (which there aren't a lot of in the winter months)

Technically, an infinite set of possibilities, doesn't necessarily include ALL possibilities. So, if there's an infinite number of universes, it's still technically possible where certain things just aren't possible. For example, there is an infinite number of even numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ...) and within that infinite set, there is no number that is odd. So, even if there is an infinite number of universes, it's entirely possible that in our set of infinite universes, it doesn't include one where Cogger isn't the funniest Underdog.

it's interesting always hearing about Mr. Beast from you guys...I know he's this massive KZreadr but I literally only ever hear about him from you. Not someone I care to watch nor is he in my friend group's purview. I know I'm not exactly the teen crowd he markets to, but even so. There's a market for viewers that don't overlap with the whales, that's I guess my overarching point.

This Podcast just looks funny, like Hopcat looks like the Principal who takes his job to seriously and got Zack and Jordan in trouble for running in the halls and Cogger is just the P. E teacher who was called in to explain why running is bad
