Hoovie Cruising in the Ferrari Dino 308 GT4

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Chris and I participated in Monterey Car Week 2023 last week.
We used our Dinos as daily drivers to attend various events (and Chris showed his Dino in a few events as well).
We reached out to Hoovie ahead of time and he was kind enough to meet us and drive our Dinos! This video captures him driving the 308GT4 Ferrari Dino.
We also encounter an oil pressure issue that Hoovie points out!

    I once read that the first time Miles Davis heard a Ferrari horn he said: "B flat". He then bought that Ferrari.

    My first Ferrari was a 1975 308GT4 in Chiaro Blue, loved that car and wish I still had it. Hello also from San José, CA!

    I wouldn't be surprised if the Dino uses the same POS oil pressure sending unit as my 82 Alfa GTV6. (They don't seem to have very long lives.)

    Gen X guy here. I never used to connect with these things but over the years they've turned into one of my absolute favorites. The green is spectacular.

    I'm Gen X myself - I fell in love with the 308 GT4 when I first saw one at the age of 17 (way back in 1987!!). Wanted one ever since, and feel really lucky to have finally acquired one just a couple of years ago!

    Bertone's 308 GT4 is one of my favourite Ferrari's. The green is unusual for a Ferrari, but not for a Bertone design, I like it👍😎

    It's always been my favorite too, but back in the '70s, and for the Dino marque in particular, red wasn't that common of a color. Dino's were often blue, green, yellow, gold, brown and all the wonderful 70s colors of that era. The thing is, most people painted them red in the mid 1980s to the early 1990s… thus, "resale red" was born!

    That's a really nice green on that, and I think ferrari continued on with that color and even used it on the F355, also they dont look bad in red, but well, it might be abit of a blessing in disuguise that it got resprayed and then you resprayed it back given how much they rusted, their was one up where i lived that I got to see, talk to the owner about and that, and he had bubling paint on an all original red one, as bertone was just not as good as pinifarina in the rust proofing department also I gotta admit because of the top gear special, the 10,000 pound supercar challenge, an old favorite i go back to and hammond saying this is the one car he wishes he had kept given how fun it was which he covers in his top top gear cars thing he did a little while ago on drive tribe I really like them in yellow too, as the black accents against a bright color set them off nicely.

    Thank you, I've always loved the green too, but since owning it in that color, it has become my absolute favorite color on that car! These cars are known to rust… but all vintage Ferraris are. It didn't make a difference what model as Ferrari didn't really start taking any rustproofing steps until around 1983/84. However, with mine, there actually was no rust - and the shop that did the work was shocked as they were expecting to strip the paint and find a lot of rust they'd have to fix. I suspect being a life-long California car played a role in that.

    @@tiafogarage ah so did they do like porsche and go with Galvanized steel in 83/84 or just better primers? as its funny, generally I dont know if its the value or not, but you just dont generally really see rusty ferrari's anymore unless their a barn find and props to that man, he was driving and enjoying it, its just the climate here in the north east is not good for old cars

    @@kavinskysmith4094 - yep, they started using galvanized steel during that time. Rumor has it a few pieces here and there may be found on a few cars prior, but not sure if that's ever been confirmed. Yeah, Hoovie enjoys his driving for sure! Although that was the first time I had let someone else drive my car, so it was real weird sitting in the passenger seat! I'd let him drive it any time, he's a good driver and a great guy.

    Didn’t all 308 GT4s come from the factory in a two-tone paint? Most were immediately repainted by the dealer, so maybe the dealer just took it from two tone green to monotone green? Love the car, thanks for posting. On my to do list to get one.

    Nope! The boxer paint scheme was a factory option, not all cars were painted that way. I believe some dealers did the job as well in an effort to boost sales in the early years. Hopefully you'll check this off your to-do list soon! 🙂

    Ferrari Dino had a 3.0 V6. Where does this one fit in?

  • @badbusdriver7160

    @badbusdriver7160

    The Dino had a 2.0 and then a 2.4 V6, but it was mounted longitudinally. The 308 GT4's V8 was mounted transversely, leaving space for the rear seats.

  • @tiafogarage

    @tiafogarage

    10 ай бұрын

    The Ferrari Dino 206 (2.0L V6) and 246 (2.4L V6) were also transverse mid-engine like the 308 (3.0L V8). The rear seats were gained by adding to the wheelbase (and the car is also wider than the 2x6 Ferraris to accommodate the V8). The *Fiat* Dino 2.0 (spider and coupe) and 2.4 (spider and coupe) used the Ferrari-designed Dino V6 engines, and mounted them in front longitudinally. Ferrari enlisted fiat to manufacture the V6 engines and allowed them to use them in their products in order to meet the homologation needs for Ferrari to use the engine in Formula 2 racing. Later the 2.4 liter V6 was also used in the legendary Lancia stratos (with a different top end).

    @@tiafogarage My mistake, not sure where I got the notion the 206/246 engine was mounted longitudinally🤔. Loved the Fiat Dino coupe (never that keen on the spider though!), IMO one of the best looking cars ever. And the Stratos, especially in the Alitalia livery, is an absolute icon.
