The Hoovermatic you have is a model 3174, it went on sale in 1957 and was replaced by model 3334 in 1961/1962. My mum had a Hoovermatic 3174 which came from the Hoover staff shop as my dad worked for them.

Evokes all the memories. The sound is now my go to asmr. Thank you. Dear Lord that drums a noise! Strange actually, never seen one with the control panel below the spinner. Always above the wash tub.

This was the machine we had at home for the first twenty two years of my life. My mother wouldn't change it for the world. It even was still working when she was forced to upgrade it on the premise that you couldn't get spares for it. My mother hated front loaders and had heard stories of water pouring out of them. But we got one in the end. Bet you're glad you've got your hands on this one ay

It’s fun to use, but having to use this day in day out for all my laundry, I’d lose my head! I’m so glad for modern machines.

Hi I’ve just bought a Hotpoint countess washing machine with a wringer attached it hasn’t been used for a while but has been kept in doors in the kitchen and from the pictures looks in great condition it was being sold by a relative of the old person who lived there so they don’t know anything about it, I’m picking it up Friday , do you know if there is anywhere to get parts if it needs anything

What an amazing find! You’ll have so much fun with it. In regards to replacement parts I don’t know off hand, but eBay and the like are the best bet for parts or maybe going some old washer forum etc? Please keep me up to date with how you’re getting on with it.

@@HooverLux hi I picked up the hotpoint countess today and I have just tested it. Everything works. Is there any sort of maintenance oiling or greasing they need. I’ve even got the instruction book

the cleaning is done by the water being forced thorough the clothes by the pulsator not by the revolving action so no reverse needed

These machines are fascinating. How long did it take to heat? Is the heater manual or automatic?

  • @HooverLux
