Hookup culture absolutely does destroy us. I used to measure my masculine worth against my peers who were frequently hooking up with girls - I thought I had no value because no girld wanted to hook up with me. Zoom ahead 15 years - I'm happily married with children, and many of those buddies to whom I used to compare myself are either still single and floating aimlessly through life, or have bastard children/divorces under their belts. Measuring myself to their standard was ALWAYS the wrong way of looking at it.

Funny how ppl still use marriage and children as a social status thing like it instantly gives ur life “value” when I know a shit ton of ppl that are miserable BECAUSE they got married & had kids. Potentially breaks a man in so many scenarios. Woman cheats, woman takes kids, woman gets checks from man. Just 1 example. Or ppl just staying in toxic marriages for assets while being miserable. Happens scary often. Don’t get me wrong, if it’s given you fulfillment that’s honestly great and I also know ppl where marriage and kids were the best thing to happen to them. but to say someone is “aimless in life” just because they’re single or chose another route is wild to me.

Bro you didn’t chose not to hook up with a ton of girls. Don’t act like you had a choice and picked the high road. You’re not the type of guy that lots of girls WANT to have sex with, so you just didn’t have any options. If you had dozens of hot girls asking you to have sex with them and made a choice to say no, that’s a different story but we all know that ain’t the case 😂

I am in my last semester of college. And its crazy how many people ruin their lives by college culture. Some get a hookup pregnant and have to deal with the consequences. I know some who got kicked out of college since all they did was party and failed their classes. Meanwhile I didn't party. I had a few good friends and my social life consisted of basketball once a week, the gym, just some chill hangouts. Never got drunk or had a hookup with someone I didn't recognize the next morning. Now software engineering grad - applying for masters in AI and computer vision. Working an internship rn and got a few job offers too (after applying everywhere). While on that same note those guys that party had random hookups failed classes cuz they were too hungover to show up are working the same job they had in high school plus tons of debt and baggage now. Have fun, but don't be stupid cuz life has consequences like it or not.

I was hoping that by the time I got to college, I would find a woman to wife up, settle down with, and have a family with while my career takes off. What I’ve found instead were women who were drugged and drunk up, ran through, full of mental illnesses, bitter, high standards, and narcissistic. The dating game just sucks and I’m convinced the family unit is gone for good especially with the media and feminism down turning it every chance they get. it would also be a good idea to ask yourself if a hideously expensive degree is even necessary for what you'd like to do. maybe even take a couple of years to gain work experience, life experience, establish a good credit rating, etc. THEN decide. the view from inside a profession is often very different than it looks from the outside. having earned your own money will also make you think long and hard about what youre getting yourself into with student loans. its a scary place to be that far in debt. even worse when you spend that money on something of questionable value. if taking a couple steps back and some time prevents you from wasting your money pursuing a useless degree in gobbldygook, or a personal interest with little value in the job market, youre way ahead of the game. despite what many may tell you, theres no rush. figuring out what to do with yourself as an adult, and what path to take is HARD.

Yeah, this is a good point, these people get out of college, and whether they continue their behavior or not, they normalize promiscuity. They don’t see it as a big deal until after college but even then they shrug their shoulders and say “hey, that’s okay, nobodies ready to settle down in college!” So promiscuity in college is normalized and that overflows to dating apps as well which just further exacerbates the problem.

Even though I (60) just recently understood the biology behind, I knew instinctively from the first gf 44y ago. Making yourself immune to the pair binding hormones is a dangerous thing. You gain an addiction to the short kick they give, but don’t have the midterm results (I experienced by myself) of „bonding“ to one person. In case of children, this is the thing needed to get them grow up with both parents. I did not live together with someone of the same understanding/instinct, so me and my kid had to suffer from a cheat wife/mother. At least she served as a bad example to learn from. Kids did and now I‘m virtually a single dad of 2 grownups.

People have forgotten that college is meant to be more than class and "independence" for young adults. You're supposed to network and build your resume and apply what you're learning by doing things related to your degree. Class is only like 30% of what college should be. Instead it's turned into a giant daycare for 20 year olds and people just go to class and party instead of taking opportunities and meeting people in the field. THAT is why their degrees are useless. Education with application and experience is useless.
