Watching the video it felt like him and the donkey had an, that's enough for now moment. You're right, Mr. Chan's technique is not exactly my being a resort style pedicure. He does seem professional and caring. Early in this video he changes cut when the donkey starts jerking and then finishes the down cut after having trimmed the frog and given the donkey some Tim to get used to what was going on.

Yeah, I just see a giant hatchet to trim down the overgrowth and not much care otherwise (what about the frog?? Creating a hollow or however you express that in english?) No checking any angles or if it's even. And I don't know enough about how donkey hooves differ from horse hooves to know if they have their hooves at a steeper angle or what angle is good, but the angle of that hoof looks VERY steep. (In horses it should be at an 45° angle if you look from the side, no idea if that's different for donkeys but this ones look closer to 80°)
That blade is soooooo sharp! It's amazing how he handles it without harming the donkey.

When the donkey has been trained to stand still as it is in Europe the trimmers can easily do their job! But these trimmers don`t know how to properly communicate with their donkeys resp. how to train them to do so. They should watch the videos from "the west" in order to improve their job.

Sometimes that happens but they don't actually go too far. The hoofs can crack internally and this causes a cist to form near the skin, so they'll have to chop it all the way down to clean the infected area. So that's probably why there was blood.
