French guy here. Your sacrifice is not forgiven. I am breathing free air, as my children are, thanks to these guys. My gran great father died in April 1918, his body never to be recovered. I know a thing or two regarding the mia's. Long live the US of A.

My grandpa's uncle died in Belleau Wood, WW1, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. Grandpa enlisted in the Army and jumped in France with the 101st, WW2. He made it home. Young people in the USA don't stop and think what the people of Europe lived through: 1914-1945. You people lost almost two entire generations of young people between both world wars.

So few realize, there are 12 American cemeteries in France, far more than any other country. God bless you for honoring the dead as sooo many Americans died in France. Our debt to France for assistance in our Revolutionary War has been repaid in blood many times over. No question, without the French, I doubt we could have won our Revolution.

There are over 45 cemeteries for British and Commonwealth soldiers in France. Don't forget that many servicemen were also lost there during the 1st World War. Many soldiers were also buried by villagers in their local cemeteries. They honoured the men by tending their graves. There are thousands more in unmarked 'war graves'. Left where they fell. 'Served together, fought together, died together, buried together'. Hopefully, France is grateful the British don't hold grudges.

You brought this U.S. veteran to tears. Thank you for taking the time. Love from USA. Some might say "those boys never got to make it home" well as an American veteran I'd say they did. Because France is family. Our nations owe one another our existence. Viva la France.

@@squamishfish She visited the Canadian Cemetery in Normandy. Many countries took part not all are always mentioned but the list is long. Keeping these memories alive and bringing the past to those of her generation is paying homage to all. This old American remembers Canadas sacrifice and continued friendship.

@@squamishfish Yes some of the warships were I think donated to Canada from the U.S.. We tried to give you other allies what you needed and then you guys put it to good use. The first ships were a part of the moth ball fleet in WWII in rough shape but when we got rolling out new ships I think you got a few top line models. Canada helped along the coasts of N. America and also in the Caribbean theater as well if my old mind remembers correctly. We will still fight you come hockey season but always friends in time of trouble.

I want to thank you for visiting the American Cemetery. I'm an American Veteran. I served in the United States Army, I was a 12B Combat Engineer in the 101st Airborne Division, mid 70's early 80's. I worked most of my adult life as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. I'm now in my mid 60's and have moved from the Pacific North West to a South Western State where it is Hot and nice warm winters. My body is broken, and I can't take the cold any more. I miss all my friends, and my brother and sister. I have found a Church to go to, but still feel all alone. Your video did warm my heart, and put a tear in my eyes. Thank you.

My father, an American, fought at battles in Argonne. In one particular battle he was the only one to come out alive in his unit. He would be immensely proud that you laid flowers there and of the cemetery that the French people have built. Thank You

Well, it was build by the US Government, but the French people did and do donate the land and allow it to remain their perpetually.

@@MrThebirddog If my father was alive he would be 128 years old. He was born in 1895 and he had a 2nd family late in life. I was born in 1949. if you do the math you can see it's true. It's always been a little strange to me that my father was born in the late 1800's.

The soldier who died on Nov. 10, 1918 is heartbreaking. Armistice was literally the following day.

Many of the officers knew the war would end & they wanted to get into combat before it was to late . So there are quite a few casualties from the day before & right up to the 11am cease-fire .

One more day and they would have lived and gone home. Unfortunately the peace only lasted for about 21 years then WWII started. The war to end all wars was only a temporary fix.

I was about to say the same thing, truly sad. Have you ever listened to the audio of the end of ww1. It's terrifying and heart breaking, it's impossible to convey all the emotions of those final moments. You seem like a person who'd appreciate it. I suggest finding it, it's definitely on youtube.

If Levi, Peter, Grover, Gabriel, Joseph and Swin could look down on this scene, to see a sweet young French Lady placing roses at their grave, I'm sure they would feel that their sacrifice had meaning. They would be touched by you, and I know all American veterans who see this are as well. God bless you. My Granddad Ed Self Went to war with his fellow Americans there, and came home alive. I grew up wondering why he was deaf in one ear, and missing two fingers. I found out later he was deafened by artillery fire. But after he returned he became a cowboy working for a stock yard in California. He actually lost his fingers in a roping accident, not in the war! He became the forman there and retired in Pamona. He loved us grandkids so much.

Marie, you have earned the respect and love of so many people by your graciousness acts shown during your videos. Though, many express sadness in the comments, especially the veterans, you have clearly touched many in a very solemn but positive way. Also, I think there are a bunch of folks that would be proud if you were there daughter or grand daughter...am I right folks? Lol. I hope that when you feel down, sad, negative, etc., that you read will read these comments and gain solis and comfort from those whom you have provided the same.

There's no doubt that the grandparents and their grandparents lived a way harder life back then, it's only right to appreciate the freedom, the unity, and their beliefs. God bless to the greater good of humanity 🇺🇲💯

Marie, it's videos like this that really make me wish we all could do something to lift your spirits after you go to these heavy places. Seeing the weight of these places on your shoulders is touching. I brought three buddies back from the Middle East in pine boxes. I escorted them home and met with their loved ones. We used shirt garters from the military to pull the flag in so it hugged the coffin. Seeing the families lose it when they saw the flag-draped coffin for the first time is probably the most emotionally destructive thing I've endured. I didn't mind the combat and I'm fine with it to this day, but bringing my battle buddies home took all I had. I miss them every day. Military cemeteries are truly special places filled with true patriots and selfless people who gave their all for the freedoms Americans enjoy to this day. Remember, our flag doesn’t fly because of the wind that moves it. It flies with the breath of every fallen soldier who protected it. Marie, I hope you find something positive to see and experience. Those men in those cemeteries were there protecting France, among other nations. They died so that your family could exist and you could be born and have these amazing adventures. Live every day abundantly. When I watch your channel it feels a little like I'm watching my little sister (even though we're not related), and I just want you to be happy and have incredible experiences. I hope you smile and laugh today. That's what matters.

What a beautiful soul you are. Thank you! My grandfather was in the great War. When WW2 broke out he literally tried to sign up again. Lol. A first generation American from Germany. His sons ( my Uncles) went and fought. My Uncle John came in at Normandy 5 days after the intial invasion and survived fighting in the hedgerows, although he was shot and sent to England to recuperate and met his wife who was a nurse there. He lived till he was 90. RIP Uncle John. In honor of my Grandpa WW1, my 2 Uncles WW2 and my Father (Korean War) I've sent you a PayPal donation. The world needs more people like yourself. There's a specific story of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive that's called The Lost Battalion. They made it into a movie of the same name and I highly recommend watching it edit: November 10th 1918 is also the day before the armistice. That is depressing as frick

Another lovely video. You are a very sweet and respectful young woman. You said your birthday is November 10. My birthday is November 3. There are a lot of years in difference, though. I never realized that there were that many soldiers buried in France. I have been to the Only US WWI memorial in Kansas City, Missouri. In fact, I was an inspector that worked with the remodeling of the memorial. If you get a chance to see it that would be nice. If you ever visit Kansas City, there are some interesting museums. One is the Nelson-Atkins Museum. It has the world's largest Badminton Birds on the lawn. The museum contains priceless paintings and sculptures.

While stationed in Germany my AF Fighter Squadron did a flyover of the Meuse Argonne Cemetary for Memorial Day. I'll never forget the warm welcome of the local community who invited us to have lunch with them after the ceremony. Afterwards the group I was with visited the battlefield of Butte de Vaquois.

OK, congratulations, this video made me cry. I'm a 30-year veteran of the US military. I'm so grateful that you would show respect to American servicemen. I'm so grateful that France would allow the flag of the United States to be flown on their sovereign soil. I'm so grateful to France as we (the USA) could not have won our independence without France's help. The cemetery, in spite of the weather conditions, was beautiful. I served as a funeral detail officer in my first assignment providing military honors to veterans throughout the state where I was assigned (in the northern United States), and this video just brought back so many memories, and how honored I was to show respect. Vive la France, and God Bless the United States of America, and God rest the souls of our French and American comrades in arms.

People all over the world are forgetting the sacrifices those young men made. The memorial day ceremonies here in the US are not as heavily attended as they used to be, as our WW2, Korea, and now Vietnam vets are dying off. They taught me how to play petanque. This video chocked me up as much because of the sacrifice of those men, but also because of your love and care for our shared history. I was given my grandmothers cousin US Army Purple Heart and news paper article that was written about his death. He was killed in France WW2 stationed out of Brainaird Feild Hartford Connecticut USA. So honored and humbled to have his medal..

Marie, Thank you for these videos. I am a veteran of the US Navy, I served 10 years as a Hospital Corpsman. I have traced my family's service as far back as the American Civil War, ( both sides) and every conflict since then. If i may reccomend an excellent documentary , please give "They shall not grow old" by Peter Jackson (of Lord of the Rings fame) and if at all possible watch the making of as well. Jackson was given the task of putting together film from WWI (silent film), restoring it, colorizing it, then using speach pathologists, figure out what was said and then had actual current soldiers from the units in the films speak what was said in the film. I can not recommend high enough.

This makes me want to go lay flowers at Redoubt #9 at Yorktown, Virginia, where French Soldiers helped America win the last battle of the Revolution.
