Visitors joined us to recognize and honor the military service of Native Americans on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, 2023. The Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society presented the colors to open a wreath-laying ceremony led by museum director Dr. Cynthia Chavez Lamar (San Felipe Pueblo, Hopi, Tewa and Diné) at the National Native American Veterans Memorial. The ceremony included brief remarks by the director and Chairman Lawrence SpottedBird of the Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society, along with songs sung by the Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society members.
