Hello Michael. Great review. I have a question. Does the watch have any kind of assistant. I got your point that a notification cannot be replied but can the inbuilt mic be used to summon Google assistant...for example asking the watch to call someone, without pulling out the phone or touching the watch?

Aashish, unfortunately it doesn't support any assistance option. This is mostly because of the hardware and the operating system it runs - it is too weak to host any services of that kind. The Amazfit Verge can do that (limited version of Alexa)- and has a relatively good battery life.

Depends on what you prefer the most. Huawei have limited app functions on iPhones. The VIvoactive 3 is great and my wife loves it. The Stratos 3 looks a little weird...

Hi Thank you very much for the review and all the great work that you do for all of us - your viewers. A couple of weeks ago I bought this watch and I like its looks and feel very much but I'm facing the following issues and was wondering if it could be only me or they are real limitations of the model and/or Huawei/Honor: 1. dismissed notifications on the phone are not cleared from the watch (tested and works on a few Huawei phones (P10 Plus, Mate 20 Pro) so it might be a limitation only for other brands - I'm using OnePlus 7T but I've tested it also on Xiaomi Mi 8, Samsung Galaxy S9, Sony Xperia Z5 Comapct and they all fail to clear the notifications on the watch) 2. dismissed notifications on the watch are not cleared from the phone (by design according to Huawei support) 3. can't mute incoming calls - the only options are pick up and reject Can anyone confirm/deny my findings so far? Also does anybody know if Xiaomi Huami Amazfit GTR has any of these issues? Can someone also tell me if on the Amazfit GTR I can dismiss/clear only a single notification or it has the same limitation as the Mi Smart Band 4 where I have to either leave or clear all of the notifications at once?

Hi DImitar, this seems to be standard behavior - and is a little different to the way notifications work on other watches and OSes. Because I often forget about some notifications, it is really nice to have them cached on the watch. But indeed - clearing them on the watch won't make them disappear from the bar on the phone and vice versa. As for the Amazfit GTR - I cannot recall in detail - but they do disappear from the phone. Most likely behavior is similar to the Mi Band 4, as they are pretty similar in terms of design.

@@TechMishka , according to Huawei/Honor's Bulgarian support, that I've been in touch on the subject for a couple of weeks now, it's only intended in the direction of the watch not clearing the notifications on the phone. The other way around - clearing/viewing the notifications on the phone should clear them on the watch and they are blaming my phone's (OnePlus 7T) OS on the failure. But I've tried it with multiple other phones/OSes and only the ones from Huawei do work as they explained - as in "successfully clearing the notifications on the watch too" ... they did say that they've tested on Samsung Galaxy S10+ and it worked for them so I'm starting to doubt if this could be caused by some configuration that I'm missing. Any idea anyone? What kind of phone have you tried it on? Am I right that I saw a OnePlus 7T in your video?

I've been using the Samsung Gear S3 (Frontier) the last 3 years... one of my biggest gripes about it is the terrible HR monitor. I have to literally stop everything and "be still" for it to (sometimes) read my heart rate. Does this read your HR while still being active? So, in other words, if I was running, can I just check my HR by looking at it? Or I have to activate it and stop what I'm doing?

You will like the HR here - no need to pause and stop anything - works at any time and is very precise.

can you talk more about the local music storage on the watch - actual capacity of the 2gb available for user and how it is transferred from the phone - how could a podcast be transferred for example...

The thing with podcast is that you will be annoyed to listen to it if you need to rewind, or play a specific part. The player can start, pause or stop - nothing more. And it has to be .mp3 (aac should run as well, but I couldn't make it run). And the transfering is via bluetooth - so it is ... slow!

When u raise to wake. Can we set it to last 30second before the screen dim back to always on display.? My field of work need to count time/minute. At least 20 second read is good enuf. Most smart watch only last 10 sec n theres no way to customize it.b

Question- when I am trying to connect my wireless Bluetooth ear pods, I can only connect 1 Bluetooth pod. If I have to connect the other pod, I will have to disconnect the first one. How do I connect both my Pods to the Bluetooth on the watch? Thanks in advance

Well I have magic 2 and galaxy watch. Responding on texts via watch is pain in the arse. Really not convenient. And this one has much better battery life. Ticwatch and galaxy are "true" smartwatches but battery lasts max 3 days so I dont see it as good trade for full functionality.

Can you link it to third part app like strava or wikiloc? Can you extract GPS tracks to use it as you like? like share it or upload on wikiloc or alltrails?

If you need smartness - you will have to sacrifice battery life... I like a lot the GT2.

Spo2 - pulse oximeter and stress feature was there on my old S6 edge (hardware next to its flash) It measures the variation in heart beat over a period of time. Uneven heartbeat, spikes, skipped beats = more stress. Fairly accurate in my opinion. Used to jump up when I used to over work/study.

You can conttrol music that is running on the phone; If it is the music player running - it controls that. If you run Spotify - it controls Spotify. Actions are limited to going to prev/next song and volume controls.

That's true - there are certain limitations due to the Huawei Health app. Sadly, it's the same with the Magic Watch series as they use the same app.

How does the battery compared to Amazfit GTR? Which is better?

The GTR has longer battery life thanks to the less functions it supports. With Magicwatch 2 I usually get 4-7 days with 24 HR tracking, Always-on, stress tracking and occasional sports. With Amazfit GTR it was around 2 weeks as far as I remember.

Yeah, that's a miss... And the lack of Strava support too. You may check the Samsung Active 2 (locked to Samsung's assistant) or ... well - there is no perfect smartwatch yet. WearOS - short battery; Non-wear-OS - no assistant and good battery performance. There's always something missing.

Hi, thanks for the in-depth review! I want to buy it, but I have four questions: 1) does the watch vibrate when you recieve a notification like whatsapp/gmail? 2) does the watch vibrate when you recieve a call? 3) If you set a 1 hr timer, can you continue using the watch or it will stuck in the timer app and if you go to the main screen the timer will stop? 4) I have read online that the step counter adds the ones you make with the watch and the ones with the phone (so it duplicates the steps). does it happen to you? Sure, let me try to help: 1. Yes 2. Yes - continuously 3. The timer will stop :( 4. I also notice many people stating that, but I do not notice any step increase when having the watch and the phone at the same time. Looks like the algorithm is well tweaked.

The sleep tracking of the Honor/Huawei watches is extremely good. Spors tracking is almost the same with both. Steps count too.

Wow, after watching videos on, reading up on and checking availability on dozens and dozens of smart watches/bands, I've come to the conclusion that this one is the best I've seen. From what I'm hearing, all my expectations are fulfilled with this watch and the 2 biggest things that I think are very important are that it has GPS and that it has a speaker n microphone so it can make calls. One thing I'm still unsure of actually though, now I'm thinking about it, is it water resistant? (ip67/ip68 rated?) If so, the thing is almost fuckin perfect!

I confirm that the GPS tracking needs very small amount of power - and the values are pretty accurate.

@@TechMishka would you please do another research about the GPS non stop usage time?? Like maybe you can run for two hours straight or something and tell me about the battery usage? Lolol I need to know about the battery usage before I purchase this watch. I'm an ultra runner myself and will do a 100 miles race in 6 months. I want everything to be recorded from smart watch, can't have it if I'm using a watch that the battery drains during a race lol (mostly 100 miles ultra runners would crossed the finish line around 17 to 25 hours lol)

Why does it called smartwatch like gt2 when they are only a fitness tracker with some smart options. They should make it clean .smartwatch is like smartphones where u can add more options-apps to your device.

You can get a discount on the Honor website for their watches using AHWATCH42 for the 42mm watch and AHWATCH46 for the 46mm Honor watch 2. I used it and it works!!

The T-Rex is very similar to the GTR; In favor of the GTR: Better battery life (it is just slightly better with always-on screen) In favor of GT2 / Magicwatch - phone calls, speaker, microphone, better sleep tracking, a little more features, better build quality, better display

Sadly, it is not possible to respond. YOu can see notifications about calls though; If you need a watch with possibility for responses - then check something with WearOS or the Samsung Galaxy Active 2.

GPS is something we cannot control on the watch - it only works in sports mode. If you have no continuous HR measurements, then battery life will be close to 2 weeks without always-ON. With always-on display - maybe 6-8 days.

All I want is a smart watch that can go a full week with messages and calls thats it. This sport this is bs for most of us it was something Apple introduced to extend the smart watch craze not a bad thing. I have an iPhone the amazfit verge does this for a week
