Great video very honest review Mike. I was disappointed by the camera on the Magic 6 Pro. It's worse than the 5 Pro. Maybe a few software updates will fix it. I've returned the phone and bought the Xiaomi 14 instead.

Average dad!, do you still think the phone is a good buy, I feel as the zoom lens isn't really an issue for me as I feel all phones zoom lenses are a bit of a gimmick. With that in mind should I still consider the honor magic 6 pro for all it's other features like 3d face unlock, motion capture and battery? I really need some second opinion on this.

How is this Magic 6 Pro and S24 Ultra compared to the Z60 Ultra in the camera department? Saw your review on it and figured they were fantastic (except the front camera, of course), ended up ordering the Red Magic 9 Pro for the sleeker look and white color option, but may still change to the Z60 Ultra if the cameras are that much better. Thanks!

Forget zoom no one uses. How about sporadic updates or generational bugs? Honor are to be avoided outside China, unfortunately

@AverageDadOfficial how could you possibly know I have no experience of honor products ? Other than being a presumptuous fool? My Honor 6 pro is still on Janauary security patch / as is Google play. Yours ? My 4 and 5 pro had sporadic updates ( always behind China) as well as historical bugs. What about any of that is incorrect? Let's go......let's not.

I don't recall but did you review the Pixel 8 Pro? I am pretty sure I remember you having a Bay Blue Pixel 8 Pro. I'm in the US with a Pixel 8 Pro on T-Mobile and I know even this latest Global release of the Magic 6 Pro that you're using, it won't have all the LTE/5G bands that my 8 Pro from T-Mobile has and while that's not the biggest detractor, the Pixel exclusive features I do use and rely on daily but for me, not being a fan of Samsung and One UI, this Magic 6 Pro is the only other phone I'd be interested in right now. I think Honor is doing some really innovating things like the only Android OEM to use a true ToF 3D face unlock and their Silicon Carbon battery is only something their using. Can you comment on the haptics and macro shots? These are two things I love about my 8 Pro. I can't tell you how many times the much improved macro shooting capability has come in handy for me and the haptics on the 8 Pro are some of the best I've used. Thanks for the update with this video.

2.5x optical zoom is perfect for me. My Huawei Mate 40 pro has a 5x optical zoom but I noticed that most times I use around 2.5x which in my current phone is a crop of the 1x lens.

May I ask if the satellite communication also works outside china?

pretty sure than an software update will come soon for main camera in general and then will pass dxo. If we don't care about zoom, it is a really good phone in general, I am pretty happy with. Just waiting for the next update and really hope we will have improvament on cameras (and not only other AI features)

@@Tiagonaescocia ok then the Honor is the complete opposite with its rounded corners and curved screen. You can go for it if you don't need the high zoom ranges (30-100x). Other specs are the same or better as the s24U

Welp, looks like they didn't get to use the sensor at its full capacity... Was expecting the zoom to be good due to my previous calculations but was highly disappointed. At the very least it might get fixed by future software updates but I highly doubt that. We'll see in the future wether the risk they took about the zoom lens is good or not.

Are you getting the 14 ultra?

hey, great content... i used that phone as well for a couple of days and it dont stand a chance against my s23 ultra (zoom) and even the p40 pro (x50 same range and sharper as x100 honor) i have flying around wich is a shame... the most dissapointing and annoying part for me was the zoom camera and control also camera app compared to actual huawei smartphones is trash... i returned it now im thinking of getting the xiaomi 14 ultra honor clearly did misadvertizing the zoom and also the zoom control wich isnt smoth its like youre blinking and boom back to x1 wtf... there are more flaws wich drove me alomst to insanety XD

The shocker of this video.for me was that someone is still using a phone as old as an iphone 11 lol! Look like honor has some major software tweaking to do. Hope the xiaomi 14 ultra isnt a stinker like this one!

Can you tell something about battery drain when idle? I just bought honor magic 6 pro and when i go sleep for 8 hours it took about 10-15% of battery and for all the show about super battery in this phone its little disappointing

Check under battery in the settings what drains your battery. Might be an app you downloaded.

@@gantenbeinable I checked - honor main screen drain most of battery but i figure out that WiFi is the problem, when i turn it off after 10 hours phone use only 3% of battery when idle, with WiFi like i wrote before ~10%-15%. I still think something is not ok...

@@AverageDadOfficial Yep. It was a strange choice to go with 2.5x. I think the main reason they went with 2.5x was portraits but from your experience that doesn't seem to be working out well either. Vivo is supposedly using the same sensor but with somewhere around 4.3x optical in the x100 ultra (or x100 pro+ if they stick with the old naming). Will be interesting to see how that turns out

​@@eoin4597I think you can get some great portraits if U just use the 2,5x lens and not the artificial portrait effect. Use lens compression and the wide open aperture to your advantage like on a real camera

I've bought this phone solely for the camera quality based on some reviews and, of course, DxOMark score. Cameras are meh, to be honest. Really hit and miss, mostly miss and a bit blurry at the edges. Coming from Huawei P30 Pro that I've used for 5 years, I can't say that there is a 5 year increase in camera quality. They are very similar, except for Magic6's higher resolution. Night photos are much, much better and sharper on P30. But I like the front camera on Magic6 because P30 had a really bad one.

True. I am disappointed with camera in this price they fool us. And is super heavy phone.

Reading through the comments and it's really funny. So many people after this zoom feature is just lol. 100x is just a gimmick on any phone. As long as it takes good photos up to 10x that should be sufficient for almost any actual use case. Battery life, reliability, usability and longevity are much more important to almost everyone. Knowing the terrible Samsung software engineers, S24 will get much slower than this phone after just a couple of updates for sure. I still recall year and half ago we tried to take a photo in a club with the S22 Ultra and we literally had to wait for 4 seconds to take one single photo and the whole phone was lagging few months after release.

Great video. That zoom is shockingly bad - it shouldn't be the keystone of their advertising Sorry to say this - your photo of the St James shopping centre just reminds me of a certain brown and unpleasant emoji - not the fault of your photo but the architect!!!

@@AverageDadOfficial I don't understand at all where there is something disturbing here. The depth of field in these photos is great. When you take a photo and look at the screen, there is no final effect yet, it is generated only after the photo is taken. Additionally, in portrait mode you can adjust the background blur.

Yeah i really think they made a gamble with the 2.5x zoom sensor and it backfired badly. Even the 10x shots which are supposed to be "in sensor crop" quality dont look great from other comparisons im seeing. Seems like the OnePlus 12 is a better option in the UK for the same price tbh

It's 180mp at 68mm vs 64mp at 70mm Other pros and cons I noticed: Honor: + Face ID + Best Battery life on the market in a flagship + Best screen, speakers and selfies (according to dxomark) + 66W wireless charging (OnePlus:50W) (+ Better camera than oneplus 12) -/+ curved screen OnePlus 12: + higher pixel density (510ppi) + 100W charging/80W USA (Honor: 80W) + Aqua-Touch (+Capable of 8k 24fps video) - only IP65

The zoom is disappointing. Especially since the zoom is pretty awesome on my 4 year old Huawei P40 Pro. I really need to upgrade though because I'm experiencing numerous issues with my P40 Pro now because of the Google ban. It seems more things are working less well. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra probably won't be carried by global carriers or those in my country. The Vivo X100 Pro isn't even coming here and the Oppo Find X7 Ultra is China only. That literally leave me with the Honor or the P70 Pro which won't have Google and I can't struggle like this again. I just can't stand Samsung. I've had a bad experience with every single one I have and so did family. Everyone used to have Samsung but now no one does and it's either iPhone or an old Google Huawei or old LG. That leaves iPhone which I respect but I just can't get used to ios. I don't like it at all. So Honor it is purely due to lack of choice. Damn I miss Huawei so much. They would've been wiping the floor with very flagship had it not been for the stupid ban.

You can order any phone with a global rom option from anywhere in the world. Just make sure the phone is compatible with the your networks bands and your good!

@@oshikiri999 the problem is to buy it upfront isn't possible. I usually take phones on contract which works out well because it's easier to have a monthly payment than a once off big payment which I can't do. So I can only get it through a carrier. I really do miss Huawei with Google.

You should really consider Pixel 8 Pro , I use iPhone as my main phone, Pixel 6a as a second phone, so I am not biased. Have used Huawei P40 Pro, P10 as well as Samsung Galaxy Note 9and S10e in the past.

Another awesome video as always, Mike. I am quite disappointed at honour for releasing a phone with inconsistant Cameras despite the near s24 prices. Like you, I hope this is fixed with an update. I hope you had a good time in Switzerland and you got a break from the stresses of parenting lol 😂. How was the weather over their? I have been using the Doogee s41 max for a few days. It's no flagship, but I honestly don't need overkill performance or Cameras. I don't edit photos and videos or play genshen impact. I love the battery life on this phone. It's currently the early hours of Tuesday, and the phone has just under 20% left in the tank, and it hasn't been charged since the early hours of Sunday, which is amazing as I use my phone a lot every day.

I hear what you say for the most part. However, for someone who prefers macro. The Honor magic 6 Pro beats the Samsung s24 ultra. I know this because I had the 5 Pro and they haven't touch the macro. So you slate the phones zoom and precede to show us a 2.5x zoom shot and then a 100x zoom shot but nothing in between ? Anyone who knows anything about zoom on phones knows that they're all rubbish at 100x zoom. This phone uses it's high megapixel count and large lense to get results past it's optical zoom and no one really expects decent results past 30x so why couldn't you show us pictures from 3x to 30x instead of jumping from 2.5x straight to 100x ? I'm not saying you're wrong but we need to see the results it's youtube not a podcast ! Other reviews say it's not bad till 20 or 30x just like other digital zooms.
