Hong Kong protests: Inside the university campuses becoming makeshift fortresses

The Hong Kong police say protesters are moving one step closer to terrorism - as violent clashes on major university campuses continue. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Militant student demonstrators say they are fighting against police brutality, as part of broader protests against Chinese rule. Matt Frei has spent the evening at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which has been transformed into a makeshift fortress as students barricade themselves in.

Its a great strategy actually. The authorities have done a decent job containing these protester in certain places and pushing them into certain locations. Let the protesters stay in CUHK. Its a very isolated location anyway. China strategy is also very good too. Let these protesters destroy their own city and show the people of Hong Kong what these protesters are really about.

The concluding remarks are typical channel four when it comes to China related issues. What makes you think Beijing is “fearing” what is happening in Hong Kong? As a liberal myself now living in China, all I can feel is belief in liberal democracy being eroded and more people are “rethinking” Tiananmen Square 1989, I think there could be no better gift to the communist government than the non receding craziness in Hong Kong. Also, the protesters may seem fearless. But there are two sides of fearlessness. One is degree of tolerance towards real danger, and the other is the actual level of danger. Despite all the self-glorification by the protesters, most riot police reactions are provoked, and most protesters face no severe consequences. Like China during cultural revolution, students are on the one hand hypnotising themselves about the heroism of there act, and on the other hand enjoying the freedom to sabotage, vandalise, discriminate - or in short to be irresponsible - in the name of an seemingly indisputable cause. This is the most typical case of semi-religious public mania driven by popular delusions, yet media outlets like channels four are branding it as “revolution”. Where is you critical thinking here?
