    Perfect video, thanks! I was originally looking at the Logitech G Pro but seen a comment saying it didn't have the full range of motion but the Honeycomb did, and this video cleared that up very well for me. Thanks for keeping me from wasting money on Logitech G Pro and THEN turning around for a Honeycomb later on. Much appreciated, thanks are beyond words. Thanks, again.

    Good review for any new sim pilots, I would add that I have both the joystick and the CH Yoke. The joystick is a solid performer and the twist grip allows you to yaw if you dont have pedals. The CH Yoke is cheaply made and doesn't feel right if you want to fly the 'big jets'. It's metal holding screws will easily strip the plastic they go in to and then it's hard to get it even remotely stable.

    Good info, I might add that trying to land a plane with the two cheaper yokes is really hard as the shaft sticks and then moves. This makes your plane jump up and down. I even tried the modification for the Logitech yoke where they take the springs out and use rubber bands. Still I had to bite the bullet and buy the honeycomb. More bucks but worth it.

    Great video. I just bought the Honeycomb and am very satisfied with it, but I can't find any meaningful documentation on it to program it, so I am just kind of bumbling along. I am really glad I checked around and bought this one as my first and it is very different from the joystick. It actually seems to "drive" more like a car, and a bit closer to the way you'd imagine a plane would fly before the joystick. But it may take some getting used to after years of joystick flying. Again, great video and now all we need is a deck of cards. Oh, and you forgot the keyboard (uck). Cheers.

    I'm gonna get the Logitech yoke quite soon, but one thing I'm wondering is what to use for my rudder. I've used a Hotas X and that has a pretty good ruddercontrol on its throttle. I would get pedals as the obvious answer to this if it wasn't for my kneeinjury so even if I was to build a complete simulator I couldn't use pedals. Any ideas of what I should use for rudders?

    Good video! I have a CH Products Eclipse and am considering upgrading. I agree with your assessment of the throttle controls on the top. For this reason I use a separate throttle for a more realistic simulator feel. The "trim wheel" on the left is NOT for trim, actually. It is a common misconception. That wheel determines how loose or tight the X and Y axes of the yoke will be. The Eclipse has its own trim wheel but I prefer a dedicate sim trim wheel instead.

    I've had the CH Flight Sim yoke (and pedals) for probably over 10 years and it you can securely attach it--I use an old cutting board as a spacer for my thin desk shelf. For pitch trim, I use the grey rocker on the left horn and it works great. I'm sure the "feel" of the Honeycomb (as well as build quality, although I've never had any problems with either CH product) is superior and I'll probably upgrade at some point, (like if it ever breaks) but CH offers the best value out there and is certainly up to the task. You get used to the awkward placement of the power levers so I'll probably get a quadrant at some point as well (like when I upgrade the yoke and maybe pedals), but I've gotten along fine without one to this point.

    bravo throttle quadrant will take up a ton of desk space when they start shipping in November or December. be prepared to store your Virpil grip while you are using the Bravo (i realize that that's down the road a piece since Bravo won't realistically be on anyone's desk until January 2021). A fold-down table-mount would be ideal to store the HOTAS out of the way but they dont make one, you'll have to invent that .

    If i wanted to get the honeycomb yoke, but also get the logitech instruments, will they work together, and if so is there a way to mount the instruments to the yoke? or do you a recommendation for how mount those instruments to a desk without buying their expensive panel?

  • @GleimAviation

    @GleimAviation

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Christopher, the instruments will work with the Honeycomb Alpha yoke. You'll probably need to make sure you have a powered USB hub to connect them all depending on how many you use. The Alpha yoke also has the same bolt pattern on top to accept the Logitech instruments. The instruments have a frame that you can use as a template to drill holes to a desk and mount with screws. Otherwise you could create your own mounting tray that clamps to a desk.

  • @jimstanley_49
    @jimstanley_492 жыл бұрын

    An important note about the Logitech yoke: there is a 5-degree dead zone on the roll axis on each side and a smaller but notable, unsymmetrical dead zone on the pitch axis. This is part of the firmware in the yoke itself; YOU CAN NOT CALIBRATE IT AWAY. So it looks like only 90 degrees of motion, but you're actually getting only 80 degrees with a giant 10-degree area in the middle where nothing happens! I am in contact with their Saitek team, and they tell me this is a feature, not a bug. I replied that this is unacceptable and am waiting for their reply. I'll probably be returning my yoke system and a switch panel I purchased and getting Honeycomb hardware.

    In the Logitech profiler you can adjust the movement ratio to make it slower or quicker with how much input is applied as well as adjust the dead zone. When I was driving american truck simulator I would tap the wheel and the truck would take what felt like a 90 degree turn so I had to go down on it. My question is.... Even though I can adjust the ratio of input when turning... Is it gonna make a difference in realism if I cant make the yok itself go 90 degrees? I assume that if your really flying a plane and you crack the yok 90. Your gonna be down for one hell of a ride at that point? Like aerobatic tricks or the point of a crash landing? Basically what I am trying to ask is.. Do you think I will get a decent sim experience if I can adjust the programming to suit my needs of input on the Logi yok?

    For those using a CH Yoke or thinking about buying one the springs for the elevator travel are ridiculously stiff so yep the shaft want's to bind and hang on the in/out travel. Here's what to do but remember opening the yoke case will void the warranty on a new yoke, make sure all functions and buttons are working before opening. Open it up and take those return springs off. Go to HD or Lowe's and look for ones with a similar length but much lighter in spring tension. They're pretty inexpensive so you could buy 2/3 pairs and test them all. There are vids on YT using rubber bands which work but they will dry out and break. Next...get some white lithium grease at an automotive supply store or maybe the big box store. Forget about lubing this yoke up with WD40, it won't work. With the case still open lube up the shaft and the "slide" that the yoke uses. I think that slide is really what makes the shaft drag and hang. Also lube it up at the front and back openings that support the shaft. Be generous with the stuff, it won't hurt it. When done and put back together it will be noticeably easier to use and have smooth movements--the lighter springs make a hell of a difference. I bought a new CH Flight Sim yoke about five years ago and I now need to take it apart, clean it up and do a re-lube.

  • @airste172

    I experimented with a lot of different lubricants and none except one worked as I hoped it would. The one thing that worked was automotive STP Oil Treatment. It is ridiculously slippery, can be applied to the shaft without need to disassemble anything and makes the yoke at least twice as good as it started out to be!!! I tried a friend's brand new Honeycomb and honestly, I like my lubricated CH better!!!

    Thank you for the detail review. Was curious just what they're all compatible with computer wise. Mine is an older Windows 7. Also no mention of the setup with the three terrain scenes and the screen with the gauges. What is it if I have to purchase a new computer and What systems work with that? I've been flying for a few decades. Have my experimental low wing for high-speed cross-country travel. Also have a experimental extreme stol bush plane for Scenic flights and camping. But I would like to finally invest in a simulator to practice recovery skills or stay proficient when weather does not permit.

    CH yoke is very solid. Mine has is still going strong after 9 years. After a little use, yoke returns to pitch center just fine. Throttle levers have never been an issue getting in the way. I also highly recommend CH rudder pedals. No issues with them after 9 years. Both yoke and pedals have a really good feel; Yoke force required responds very well to level of trim applied. I prefer to click on 3D cockpit switches so no need for a bunch of extra rocker switches external to the sim.

  • @davidrosing5788
    @davidrosing57882 жыл бұрын

    5 years ago I was so unhappy with the center detents in the Saitek yoke I made my own. I made aileron travel the full 90 degrees in either direction with no center detent. I mounted the main shaft on a pillow block bearing, then mounted that on a carrier mounted to a set of linear bearings on rails for pitch control. I used separate springs for roll and pitch (Other very expensive yokes at the time used one spring for both roll and pitch, making pitch forces inconsistent in one axis if the other was deflected. THAT was annoying). But at least it got rid of that @#$%^!! center detent in the Saitek. Then for the throttle quadrant I made linear motion controls to mimic my 172RG as I didn't like the rotary (90 degree) levers that the Saitek had. Does the Honeycomb system use one spring for pith/roll forces, or are there two springs? Sounds like I was just too early for the Honeycomb. My system is working fine, but if I ever need another it's good to see the Honeycomb is available now! Best of luck, everyone! Happy flying!

    Is there ANY possibility to make some photos of the modifications you made to Saitek yoke? I`m pretty much interested in those linear bearings. I wanted to do that myself, but I`m not sure if it`s possible to mount them as the wires are attached to the shaft from the both sides. How should I do that, without desoldering the wires that comes out of the shaft? I`d be very grateful for the pics, if you have any. Thanks for the tips, anyway!
