The first movie is already a modern classic but the same thing cannot be said for KFP 2 (although you could argue it's more emotional and cute, but to me it lost some of the qualities of the 1st one. The first one managed to be funny, smart and self-contained without going overboard. It felt like well-balanced appreciation for traditional culture, martial arts and pop-cultural references without completely giving in to the desires of a 6-yr-old. The 2nd one turned Po into Moses/Goku with the genocide backstory you mentioned. It was still fun and highly watchable, but it was already emotionally draining. The 3rd one is pure garbage on my book, and I even regret buying IMAX tickets to see it.
