    Same. I haven't watched Rebels yet, so I have/had no idea who he is either. But that makes way more sense. Even from just my cursory knowledge of the plot in Rebels, I'm pretty sure there are like 3 or 4 characters Ashoka could have meant if she just said, "Where is HE?!" which would make no sense in-universe. That would be the definition of fan service. A line that is purely a ploy on the audience, not something that makes any sense to say if these characters were real people having a conversation. IMO, anyway.

  • @mattsimmons5358
    @mattsimmons53583 жыл бұрын

    Even though I was surprised by it, it does seem like Luke would realistically be the most likely person to show up for Grogu, considering the time period.

  • @R2-DPOO

    I honestly kinda feel like the critisms of the Thrawn name-drop comes from this need to have a hot contrarian take. If none of us had ever heard of Thrawn it would just be a cool "oh i wonder who Thrawn is!" Think about Marcellus Wallace in pulp fiction, we don't meet him for a long time but the conversation two characters have about him communicated his importance. That is exactly how people talk, when you ask your friend where one of your other friends is you don't say "where is he" and to have Ashoka say a line like that would have just been cheap fan baiting in my opinion. Love your guys stuff a lot.

    Well said! It kind of bugs me when people complain about tie-in material simply because it's tie-in stuff. Like, how much worse is your life having heard the name "Thrawn" in that episode. If you like the expanded universe material, great! If not, please explain what the harm is? It's a name that sounded intimidating and helps us get excited about the Asoka series.

    Luke might have felt like fan excessive service . . . but if you are going to deliver Grogu to anyone, you have to tell me who the Jedi would be. You have to convince me which Jedi would make more sense. The only other option is they decide to never give Grogu to a Jedi . . . but that's not the direction the story was going. Luke is Organic to this time period and the way the story demanded to go. The best writers don't resist the story for their own desires - and they did it right in my opinion.

    The Samurai vibe form the Ahsoka Tano episode! 💯 Felt it when I watched it and. I. Loved. Every. Bit. Of. It!!!! I want more of that dueling!!!! On the topic of spin-offs, when I heard about Ahsoka's, I was a little hype. But now a bunch of spin-offs and it just reminds me of how there were rumors back when about the Rogue One starting this anthology trend like the Solo movie, the Obi Wan movie and the Yoda movie and it's just exhausting. I hope we don't get fatigue, but since this is on TV, I guess I don't have to worry about that cinema experience or avoiding spoilers; I've gotten really good at dodging marketing. To give an idea, I walked into Episode 9 not having seen ANYTHING about it and was extremely shocked and disappointed to know they revived Palpatine in the text crawl. Then I learned I was the only person in the audience who didn't see it coming because it was in the fucking trailer... Who does that!!!! Who revives him AND spoils him in the trailer??? Star Wars having the biggest plot twists in the OG trilogy and now they just lay all their cards on the table out of desperation. Please spin-offs. Be good to us.

    To answer the question posed at 31:00, the show can absolutely succeed, and perhaps even be BIGGER, without Grogu - among Star Wars fans. The dyed-in-the-wool, hardcore fans that are out there discussing the size discrepancies of Gideon's cruiser, who know it was Luke's X-Wing by the markings on the wings, who know every step the Darksaber has taken from the time Tarre Vizsla created it, those fans would likely cheer like the Ewoks after Death Star II blew up over their head! But the general audience, the broader viewership, the people that don't know a lightsaber from a bantha, the ones that are buying the t-shirts and the Funko Pops and the plush toys, that's a HUGE part of the Disney+ audience at this point. Not just for this show, but overall. Grogu will be back within the first 2-3 episodes - MAX - of season 3. There was exactly 1 out of 16 episodes without him, and Bill Burr's performance in that one episode kept the buzz going. Disney's not going to push their luck that far.

    Excellent spit-take save there at the end, Danielle. If you guys are really fans of Walking, there's some truly epic scenes in the English period drama series Wolf Hall.

    If they do the spin-offs like they do the marvel shows, I think it could work. Mandalorian is the western/samurai homage. But the other shows can be more science fiction based. Ashoka looking for Thrawn and Ezra can be more of a spy show. The book of Fett can be more of a crime lord/godfather show... that way, none of them get completely stale and feel fresh.

    16:15 That's the point. The fact that none of them outside Gideon really understood what they were witnessing/dealing with. They're all oblivious to the greater threat. Of course it's going to feel like fan service if you're aware of all the stuff in the fandom. Next time Marvel feeds you some fan service bullshit in Wanda Vision hit me up.

    On comments regarding the number of spin-offs. I am actually cautiously optimistic so far. My hope is that they will do something like the Netflix Marvel series (or a TV version of the MCU). Cycle through the different series each focussed on different characters but in an interconnected world. If you have four Star Wars series with 8 episodes each per year (enough for a good solid story while not overstaying its welcome) that is just one and a half network seasons (or about two cable seasons) of content per year. Something I don’t think is unreasonable for Disney to put together.

    I think the Republic and Empire stuff was perfect. It does have to be shaky for the first order. And it's not like it was that long in the Empire, just about 20 years. There are people who likely lived the end of the prequel Republic, the Empire and this new Republic see little to no difference no matter who is ruling and they can look at that with apathy.

    Luke’s face didn’t bother me, but, it probably would’ve been better just to cast a younger and similar-looking actor.

    For an unexpected appearance, having Mark Hamill there (w/ CGI & doubling) worked better. We saw that this is really Luke. If they'd recast the role, viewers not familiar with another actor would be confused, thinking that maybe this was an imposter or something. Now that Luke's been introduced, if he made longer and more involved appearances, they could safely recast him, if they wanted to.
