Lucifer is actually really great. I watched the pilot just to see how badly they surely would screw up Neil Gaiman's character, and got hooked on the characters... They're fun and unusual. I like the idea that Lucifer becomes curious about why this one human is different... After his long life, something different would be a lure. And the idea that he feels it's his duty to deal out justice makes perfect sense as well.

I loved the comic, but I didn't like the series too much, to be honest. It felt too sit-com like and his behaviour doesn't fit too much with someone who is literally the devil. Like, obviously the point is that he is being scapegoated and all, but even then, someone that is literally a fallen angel should be way more pragmatic and less concerned with 21st-century human morality. Not like he should be like an edgy boy or something like that, but I think Gaiman's portrayal is spot on for what I mean: his Lucifer has his own personal morality and his own reasons, but he is still an inhuman being and he does not behave like a human, he behaves like a timeless ancient creature with an understanding of the universe and its forces that we can barely comprehend. I might have not watched the series long enough though. I went through around three-quarters of the first season before I got tired of it and moved on. It may get better later.

I can speak to the author/film money question! An established, older, wildly popular author could 100% be raking in piles of dough without any movie adaptations, though it is rare. Usually it's a big movie that creates the feedback loop for an author that starts to generate millions and millions in revenue. And then, yes, an author with clout can leverage to get 7 figures just for an option, and they usually also get percentages on the backend as a producer. That's the big leagues. Otherwise, authors without power may only get a few thousand for an option (and typically the movie is never made). I digress. Nora Roberts is a good example. She makes 20 million plus a year, and her only movie adaptations are some Lifetime movies, but nothing more recent than 2011. But she's a prolific writer and is one of the most popular, wealthiest authors on the planet. So if he's modeled after someone like her, it is possible. But then it IS a great motive for murder b/c you could exponentially double or triple your profits by starting to option and make movies of those books...

It might be fun to have some / all of the cast come back *playing different characters* (except for Craig still Blanc, of course). Kind of like a theatre company putting on a different show. That would presumably constrain the writing to write roles the actors could play, though. Someone suggested that idea in comments on another video and I still think it would be fun. Or more realistically, I could see Marta getting involved somehow with a new Benoit Blanc case in Spoons Up / Noun Verb. I'm not sure how well that would work; probably not just him coming to her for help with a puzzle, but maybe her newfound resources / money. And then she gets caught up in things and hijinks ensue. The way I'm describing it sounds dumb; hopefully if it happens, it will be done well. None of the other characters need to come back; the most interesting moments of those characters were already in Knives Out. Although *spoiler* that invisible ink note Linda (Jamie Lee Curtis) read at the end of the movie, about her husband's affair. *end spoiler* written by Harlan, could provide new conflict that leads to another mystery. But I think it would be better to have an entirely different mystery, even if one or two characters show up for cameos or small parts.

I think the sequel title should be Swords Drawn. I agree that it should be a completely different mystery, but I think Benoit Blanc should take on Marta in a His Girl Friday type role.

Harlan didn't "want" to kill himself - he did it because he thought that Marta overdosed him, so not to let the blame on her for it he committed suicide.
