Honest Review: The ELITE Caliburn 4 (THE NEXT GENERATION OF 3D PRINTED PERFORMANCE)
Ойын-сауық
Captain Slug is one of the few Nerfers who has been in the hobby for as long as I have, and he's still putting out fantastic designs for the hobby. Here's the latest iteration of the Caliburn, the easily most prolific 3D printed blaster in the hobby.

Slug calls that sleeve a ''passive magwell adapter''...it's so simple yet so elegant...I do not need another 'burn...but I love it!!!!👍

Believe it or not, it was actually my idea and I'm really happy Slug went with it. If you look at one of the first V4 threads, look for a comment by Jeremy Smith.

@@CaptainSlug Any chance the upgrade addons like Railmax and the adjustable stock will be ported over to this one? I love the look of those on the last version, but I haven't been able to find anything about updated designs for this one. Or is this blaster backwards compatible with those parts?
The Passive magwell adaptor is great. No more messing with two mag releases
That THWACK! of the dart hitting the target is so satisfying
it looks like one of the O-rings slipped loose.. 1:54

If you listened, that was intentional. The O-Ring slips over the corners of the ram base to act as a plunger pad of sorts.

Such an inspiration. More Slug blasters.
Great video. Yup it’s sweet, I expected nothing less. Keep up the great work
Hey Jinx! Thanks for the review Drac.
I wonder if I'm the only one waiting for the hilariously glorious day where we get a Mega XL Caliburn. If a Caliburn with a normal like k25 spring can get 220 or so with half darts, I would hope for over 100 even with Mega XL. Bonus would be that this would allow for a high power Caliburn to be under fps limits for many places, like my personal main HvZ - 120 fps Mega XL darts sound like they'd be prime for actual long range sniping with an fps cap.
@CaptainSlug
2 жыл бұрын
The plunger tube material would have to be much bigger since the bolt arms moving out wide enough to straddle a Mega XL would make them not fit inside the 1-3/8" ID plunger tube. The Mega Caliburn can only manage 130 fps typically, so Mega XL won't work without more plunger volume. Don't expect me to make a Mega XLburn anytime soon given how few Megaburns I sell annually. The bow I'm working on will have Mega XL as an option, and that spigot will also be backwards compatible with the FLAK.

@@CaptainSlug Woah, thanks for replying! I guess it does make sense that a Mega XLburn would be an extremely niche thing. I guess it would make sense that a Mega XLburn would require the plunger tube, and I guess by extension the rest of the blaster, to be significantly bigger, only seems right for the comedically massive ammo lol. I'll definitely be looking out for that new stuff you're working on, mega xl and its possibilities as a "low" fps long range ammo type are very exciting to me, so things that will be able to use it from big name high quality creators like you are very cool!

While not a perfect option, there are SCAR options that will allow for spigot-launching XLs

my question is when is the machined aluminum version coming out. You know, casually replacing all the 3d printed and plastic parts with metal
I’m curious how the magwell holds up. I had a DevilZ magwell that broke on the rear where the plunger tube is held. I’m not sure how it happened.I am curious as to how solid the two piece magwell is. I would think that having it be in three pieces like the previous version would reduce stress on the entire magwell and make obtaining replacement parts easier.
THAT IS ASWSOME!!!!!!!
one of your o-rings on the plunger is unseated. You can see it multiple points in the video and when you are doing chrono
Drac what do you think of the airbrake system that's now part of the plunger?
Editor was slacking a bit not putting the Chrono numbers on screen, recently ordered a t4 tc kit, excited to build it
I love it, but I would personally use a lighter spring for my purposes. I’m probably the minority on that!

It depends the role your trying to fill
I'd love to know if the "passive magwell adapter" is compatible with all standard elite magwells, it would make converting my blasters to take talons much easier! I really like this blaster overall, it seems to me like a huge improvement over the caliburn with the flat bars instead of rods. Thanks for the review! 💜🧡

It can't be installed in older caliburn magwells since the other half of it is the side-by-side mag releases at the back of the magwell. The internal profile of the magwell also has to be cut out a bit at the rear to fit the square end of the talon mags. I do however have remixes of the older magwells available that allow this type of magwell to be added. So you can print and install one, or order the parts to do so.
Old and new stuff can you please keep to get in a hobby ILove your videos
Did you know that the adventure Force spectrum can work with half darts if you have the Nexus pro mag adapter
I want this very badly but the shipping is over 50 quid to the UK so that sucks
I like.
That Dragon Con shirt, tho.
Hey Drac I want to mod my friend a modulus longstrike for Christmas but I can't find a good mod guide for a simple mod can you link me a good one

Gonna be real, would not recommend it unless you have to have that passive magwell adapter and airbrake or really want the aesthetics. I have both and it's just kind of worse in every ergonomic way I can imagine and I have had to straighten the front flat bars after even minor drops.

@@milosmods If I've read right, provided you printed your own, I think Slug actually put out files to retrofit earlier magwells to use the passive adapter and I think the airbrake plunger can simply be swapped with the classic plunger, so if you want those features, I think you actually can also retrofit them to a U Burn.
When you buy the kit do you have to print it yourself?
@jonblanchard5453
2 жыл бұрын
Captain slug offers hardware only kits as well as fill kits including the printed parts on his Etsy shop. I printed mine, I know that my printer is really dialed in for high quality. I did buy his hardware kit though. I had a bit of finishing to do, but overall I'm super happy. I bought both the lowest spring and the highest spring, and getting hit with the lowest spring at 35 feet gives a good sting.
Sooo can I print these myself?
I know you're looking at this comment, but what gun do I get for Christmas? that can be in the Uk? or sent
I wish the throw wasnt so long so this thing could go bolt action instead of pump. Would be better than an Indra if you would but oh well...
Noice, vewy noice!
Can you print the parts on a resin printer, if you're using an ABS-like resin? Or do you need to use a FDM printer?
@iEATW0RLDS
9 ай бұрын
I'd say yer gonna want to do this on FDM printers. Resin is brittle, not sure about abs resin but I would assume abs plastic will still be the more optimal choice.
@watchm4ker
8 ай бұрын
It's been done. The larger parts are tricky to print, and the overall result is heavier - You're basically making everything with 100% Infill, but with the right resin choices it's actually substantially stronger.
My take might be a bit more controversial, but as I see it, it's a regression from the Caliburn U in all core functions. The flat aluminum bars bend easily (and I have had to straighten them multiple times both in assembly and after even minor drops), the entire action is rougher, and assembly is far more difficult. I'd rather see the new features (passive magwell adapter, airbrake) retrofitted to the Caliburn U. It's better than the classic rod versions, but I would take a Caliburn U over a Cali 4 eight days out of seven.
