My brother-in-law and I put his together on 4-1-2022 and it worked great! The cool down time was about 15 minutes after we did the initial burn at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes and then cooked some thick cut 🥓 at 250 degrees for about a 75 minutes!! One of the things that needs to be revamped is the grease catcher for sure, as it’s very shallow for a smoker this size! Bacon 🥓 turned out great. 😊

Thanks for another great vid Tom. I see lots of low grade, low quality steel that will rust and burn through really fast. As you mentioned that thermometer placement is highly suspect. This is an all around disposable grill. HOWEVER ... a buck ninety five is a steal. If a guy were to use this for smoking only ... 275 degrees or less, and ALWAYS store it indoors while only using it a couple of times a month .... you might get 10 years of use.

I just bought one for $140. I really like it. I have a modification suggestion. I have been looking at Bkackstones but don’t have room for another unit so I bought a Camp Chef 24” x 16” griddle plate designed for their gas burner stove. I took off the grill grates and the entire shield with the sear adjuster on it. I placed the Camp Chef griddle plate in the space and it fit perfectly! Level and about an inch of space on either side. I set the grill at 350 and in 15 minutes, the temp of the griddle was at 350. A few variations in temp toward the back of the griddle but no more than 25 degrees. Now I have a grill/smoker/griddle all in one.

So far, I have smoked 2 whole chickens, 1 Pork loin and 1 Pork Butt. The loin was the only thing that was disappointing. We just made tacos from the second chicken and from the leftovers, I made chicken salad mix for sandwiches for work. I also used this grill for making shish kabobs 2 nights in a row. I am so happy with this grill and the fact that the temp is adjustable in 5 degree increments unlike most others that are 25 degrees each. Now I need to get back to Florida to catch more fish and smoke some of that!

I had mine for about a year and looking to swap it out. Completely clean, with good pellets it randomly shuts off constantly and the temperature is about 30-50 degrees off consistently, about to replace it with a pit boss or a camp chef and put it on the curb

Been looking for a pellet grill but so far, I'd have to take a second out on the house to get one! Being on a fixed income now with old age, this one might just fit the bill to add to my other 3 grills, a Weber Genesis Gold gas, a Holland gas and an SNS Kettle!!! The Weber and Holland came from an estate sale and they were in like new condition! Thnx Tom and looking forward to your cooks on it!

I liked your review and as an occasional BBQer I wanted to try some smoking. Went to local WalMart here in Fla and price was $243 a couple weeks ago so I passed. I went back today and although clerk wouldn't do anything about the price I took it any ways and at the register it was $175!!!! I bought one of these up here in Canada for $235 Canadian which is roughly $186. It is my first pellet grill and I have been having a lot of fun with it. I have done probably 10 cooks with it and the food turns out great. My only complaint is the Bluetooth range is very short. You have to be 10 to 15 feet away. Any further and you can't connect to it. I may look into a bluetooth extender to see if I can fix that problem.

*My buddy has one of these. His igniter went, and he called me.* What I liked about it is that the controller sensed the igniter not working, so it throws an error and the igniter emblem flashes, so you always know what the problem is when you get an error. Others do this too, but it was nice to see. I just installed a new igniter and we had smoke within minutes.. His unit is already 2-3 years old, and it is completely rusted to shit! No joke. The flame tamer, the heat shield, the body itself, it is all one giant orange piece of rusted metal. He does not have a cover for it, so it’s always out in the elements under a covered porch.. Just something to keep on mind.. The one other thing I didn’t like was how incredibly slow it is. Literally worse than my Coleman and triple as slow as my old Traeger. And that usually bugs me.. For example: My Traeger: 60-250 F in 6.30 minutes. Expert Grill took like 22 minutes or something to go from 70 to 250F And this also means, every time you open the lid, it takes more time to bounce back to temp.. Not a problem when smoking low n slow, but when grilling and constantly adding stuff and flipping at high temp, then it’s an issue (for me at least). Anyway, it is what it is.. I’d rather step it up a notch, if it’s my money

Pretty good little pellet grill for $200...I'm on a few pit boss pages on FB..One of the biggest complaints I see is the different temp on the controller then on the hood temp gauge..They took care of that..lol..

I just got a similar one that looks to be the same but with a propane griddle on the left side. Neighbor had it on the curb for free and I have never used a pellet grill. Looks really interesting but I still been to plug it in(didn't even notice it had a cord, lol) to test if it works properly.

great review i am thinking on buying one. one question does it do heavy smoke i want to do jerky and roasts? i have a pit boss vertical smoker and it produces heavy smoke. i wish i could only pay 2 to 300 here in canada they are 468.97.

I actually measured the griddle thickness. They were exactly the same. I'm very curious if you were to come to the same conclusions as me

I love how they put warning to not leave your grill unattended then have a mobile app so you can leave your grill unattended.

Thanks Tom really enjoy your content. I had purchased the expert atlas at $200 great price for a real good grill. The only issue is on that one they put an additional wire from the rtd to the control panel. I think some pit boss's have the same setup. Just a heads up my wire burnt through and I had to replace not a big deal only a $12 part. Thanks again. Happy grilling!

I've been looking at the Pit Boss Lexington and their Austin XL, because my local Wal-Mart has them in stock. I went to the store and they had 10 of these Commodores in stock. Funny thing is, they're not listed on the website. They're selling for 317.00 USD. The smokers are all assembled and have been stored outside in the parking lot for God knows how long. After watching your video and reading the comments, I'm hesitant to pay that much for something that's been sitting in the elements. If I could find one in the box I might pull the trigger.

I have a Traeger and what I like is the ability to place a piece of wide foil over the top grease pan, it looks like with this one you won't be able to do that because of that daily wheel device. Am I wrong? That would be a deal breaker for me as that top pan would get nasty really quick and need to be cleaned way too often.

I just bought this exact grill from a guy for $15 . He bought it, cooked 1 chicken and left the pellets in so it locked up the auger. I disassembled it, cleaned it and right now smoking ribs! I am tickled ! I don’t know how to link my phone to the Bluetooth though. Oh well, ribs are smelling excellent! 1hour to go!

I snagged one of these for 139 bucks yesterday. They also had the cover on clearance for 13 bucks. One thing I don't understand is the pellet clean out. It is a deep well. You have to fill it up before you can get any pellets into the auger. Is it just a poor design or am I missing something?

Tom buddy I have. The Pit Boss Platinum Laredo 1000 Sq. in. Wifi Enabled Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker Who ever made the pid on ur grill u just bough is the same company that making it for pit boss All the stuff that lights up on ur screen is a spitting image and are just in different places and ur operates the same way when u turn it on. Off The only difference I see is this pit boss is much better made but ur paying for it That’s a perfect smoker for someone trying out That will definitely get the job done but longevity from quality is questionable It’s amazing how they can put pid in a $299 grill But if u had a old analog pellet grill a pid controler is $199-300 just for control If u want pid by a grill with it It not cost affective to upgrade later I actually bought the pit boss Austin didt realize it was analog Next day I bought back to Walmart for the Pit Boss Platinum Laredo 1000 Sq. in. Wifi Enabled Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker Only $100 more and the app sucked till week ago know it kicks the crap out of my chargrill 980 which was good

Been looking at both those that you mentioned. You seam to now like the Pit Boss better than the Chargrill. If you were to buy one new, which would you now get and why?

@@sakostwwy1903 I have both the Char-Griller 980 charcoal taste is bees knees The pit boss being able to push a button and come back 10-15 minutes later and starts 100 percent of time is amazing It’s up to u can’t go wrong either way they updated pit boss app so it’s the best app I’ve used yet but Char-Griller not that far behind I will say if ur looking for the wooow factor show off to ur friends the pit boss linardo dose that every one that comes over drools over all the pit boss for the gadgets and gizmos lol for god sake it has light in side the cooking area Which one will last longer I think the 980 Just haveing so few less moving parts Quality and craftsmanship the 980 just felt as I was assembling i honestly felt they under charged Keep in mind I had to drive 1 hour half to get a 980 I’m on Long Island ny no one had it in store we’re I lived but a place in near the city and then the box just fit in my car by 2 inch’s lol 😂 Guy like did u measure I’m like yup I watched on man nearly kill him self by pulling the 980 250 lb box on a sis sor lift by himself at full extension He had the biggest set of balls I’ve ever seen lol and I told him I said to him u nearly died over a bbq get this man a 🍺 lol 😂 Tom has great videos show case ing the 980 Get some popcorn and watch them

interesting design.. with a few changes it would be a winner. Definitely needs double walls for heat retention, exterior ash cleanout for the burnpot, and for god's sake, get rid of that stupid wheel so its a flat tray for grease to run down without getting hung up on that wheel.

I'm tempted because of the price, but the problem with these smokers is you get what you pay for, and having to return these will be a pain. Even Traeger doesn't test their products out despite its high price.
