    Hi Jacqueline! Thank you so much for making this video - I'm between Springboard and DesignLab but I really love the on-demand mentoring offered by Springboard. I'm currently an Astrophysics Ph.D. at UCI looking for a career change so if I go through with this, I'd try to do it while finishing up my current research project so it'd be a big change. Questions I have: - How many hours would you say one would have to realistically dedicate to finish in the 9 months? (I'm nervous about balancing my remaining research with the work load from a boot camp) - Also, if you need to take longer, do you know if they charge extra and if not, do they cut you off from the lessons/resources after 9 months? - One thing that worries me is how all of the students' portfolios will look cookie-cutter as you said. Do you know if leadership at Springboard is ever open to students doing other projects in place of the ones they offer? My family owns a restaurant with a Wix website but I was thinking I'd love to redesign it using what I would learn. Apologies for the long comment! Hope you can answer my questions - thank you again for making this video. I hope your career is going well! :)

    @@ohgeezus2 Hi, no I haven't looked into that just yet. I was considering copywriting or digital marketing, but liked the approach to UX design a bit more. It's a bit frustrating as these fields evolve and then two separate roles get combined into one...like how former event/sales people like me would now need to know HTML to be an event coordinator for virtual events. It's a bit weird and makes me wary of spending a lot on courses if the roles will be totally different in a year's time. What do you think?

  • @ohgeezus2

    @ohgeezus2

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@adamc.7795 yes absolutely understand about combining roles and the pressure that brings with the feeling of needing to know everything. Although I do think smaller companies tend to ask more from an individual. Corporate companies or mature design teams tend to have more specialized roles. UX is so vast It’s hard for one designer to encapsulate every skill realistically. I wouldn’t worry about that too much, if you are considering school something that will not change is the methodologies of UX. The hard skills well, springboard is actually pretty good at following up with current designers and asking for feedback to update their curriculum. So the curriculum is always evolving. I have been part of their feedback call :) and my friend who graduated a couple of months after me actually had an updated curriculum. Hope that gives you a peace of mind.

    Hi, I hear you, this process is stressful. To be frank, you are only 2-3 months in your job search. It’s still pretty early, Keep pushing ! Keep in mind that the covid situation makes the odds harder, so don’t be too hard yourself as you continue your search and know that some things are out of your control. I am sure you are taking the right steps.

    @@ohgeezus2 Thanks for the reply! I'm also a fashion designer curious about ux/ui. Alot of programs separate ux and ui. Is it necessary to take both?

    @@celineying2932 I would recommend learning both, this is just my opinion. A lot of companies expect understanding of both disciplines unless you go into a very specialized role. Again just my opinion and from my experience. Especially if you are just starting out, you may not know what you want to specialize in yet! So dabbling in both is a good investment.

    The mentor part of the program is great in theory but one of my kids is doing this program and has had several (not just 1 or 2) no shows by more than one mentor. He's emailed for help multiple times. Not much support/help in response other than a "sorry".
