Honest Review: Explorer Plasma/ Arc Lighter
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Now in this review, I check out the lighter that has been advertised to me on Instagram for the last several days. Im sure if you are in the community, have a presence on Instagram, then you have seen this advertised to you as well. I didn't see any trustworthy reviews on it, so I decided to jump head first and buy it myself to see if it was worth it.
Now as with all of my honest reviews, I bought this with my own money. Not being reimbursed, and wasnt contacted to do this review by anyone. So you can rest assured that there is nothing to gain from me talking about this except unless you want to use my affiliate link below to get this for yourself. Im not begging you to use my link, its only there if you want this particular product and want to help out my channel.

I am a prepared individual that also smokes bowls and I have found this lighter to work great with my hemp wick method of smoking. On the prep side it looks as if you can pop battery out just by pulling on the top and separate it from it’s case then it looks as if you could disconnect the battery from the ignition element for a more Macgyver style do what ever you want kind of lighter if you know what I mean. And on the down side it looks as if the terminals are melting a little after very little use. I am now trying to clean them which is making them a bit loose but they still work. Hopefully that helps you y’all some one out there.

It is inaccurate to say they dont use fuel. These require recharging way way more often then butane. You will need a charger of some sort. They are lithium batteries which are very sensitive to cold and they are very much burn/explosive risk.
Thanks for making this, I was thinking about buying one but stopped to check youtube.

Glad I watched this, I gave up the devil lettuce about 8 months ago, but I smoke cigars. I rarely smoke stogies, but my preferred cigar is a backwoods port. I am hopeful that this lighter will work with this brand of cigars because they have a rough cut end, and lots of loose tobacco hanging out, which I think will light with this lighter. So I think I’ll give it a try. I have a question though, do you know how long this lighter will last with constant use? I have purchased refillable butane torch lighters, and I find that the lighter stops working before the butane cylinder is empty.
For your truck . . . a box or two of matches in a glad bag in the glove box still works just fine. I found one of these plasma lighters in a trash can, of all places. I thought it was a butane lighter at first but didn't see where to fill it and the search led me here. I appreciate the review and I guess I have a new toy to play with. In all honesty, I'd never heard of a "Plasma" lighter until just a few minutes ago. Thanks for the video!
Yup an honest freview...thanks Anthony 😎🙂

It's expensive at $20 and it still uses outdated microUSB charging, but as of Oct 2023 Zippo makes an electric arc insert for its lighters. So, you can retrofit the arc convenience into your metal Zippo shell ... maintaining the Zippo sound and feel.

I mean...tacticool ferro rods only light certain things. They're completely pointless. Their only purpose is to make people feel more special for getting a simple fire lit. Just buy a damn lighter! lol. These are ideal for smokers. They're not for campfires. Though you could just carry tinder around like you have to anyway with ferro rods. Edit. Ohhh. you mean THOSE certain things! Actually, you can get arc lighters that have an optional butane torch, which is ideal for those things
@PatalJunior

They just don't want you to keep it in the car because the battery doesn't like it. That applies for all things that have a lithium batteries, so any phone shouldn't be left in a car for several reasons, but that doesn't mean that you don't leave it there sometimes.

@@ashscott6068 What makes a product with the word tacticool added to the package makes it tacticool? So if I buy a normal non-tacticool ferro rod for stating fires it is less of a ferro rod than a ferro rod with the word tacticool added to the package? I have learned that when the word tacticool is used, the gung-ho dumbass types jumps right on it. I've also learned that there is no such thing as tacticool, yes I know it's a play on tactical but that doesn't make it any less stupid.

I brought one in 2017. Picked it back up in 2023 without charging it, still working. This lighter will light fires for 10 years if you charge it. No flint replacements, no breaking. These lighters are the best.
Pretty sure why you can’t leave in areas above 120 Fahrenheit is that lithium ion battery. Another YTer was claiming that you could have unlimited lights as long as you had solar panels. Oof 😣. Glad you point out the quality. That is my one big gripe about electrical items for survival. I don’t necessarily have a problem with Chinese manufacturers, for the reasons you point out, it’s just if there is an American manufacturer, even at a somewhat higher price I prefer to support them. Just look at the whole mask thing.
Complaint 4, you can buy those with the posts on top. Look for cigar style, either pointing straight up or on an angle. Definitely a good emergency toolkit item, just remember to top up the charge every few months to keep the battery alive.

Yeah what’s really cool as I just recently bought a 40 W flex solar charger It can charge a 24,000 mA battery from zero to fall in three hours I’ve tested it That’s why something like this would be amazing arguably I will have a Wait to start fire Indefinitely at least until either the solar charger breaks or the lighter does
Bought one several weeks ago. It worked great for a week. Charged it for use on 2 separate trips, and it failed to work for more than 2 lights each time.
I bought one of these in black, however I 3d printed out a polyurethane partial case for it after realizing it was crap plastic

Zippo makes an arc lighter insert. Maybe a better investment as you can swap between the two and it's metal and not plastic.

Was just thinking about the plastic case.. It has to be plastic as its an Arc lighter. 😂.. a metal case would increase the risk of receiving a nasty tingle. I assume the waterproof nature means it can work even in wet conditions(electrodes having been wet). Assuming you dry water/moisture from the case and around the electrodes to prevent the nasty tingle. Have purchased one of these before watching the video, so will be testing it. Bought one due to the slow growing difficulty of finding matches and disposable "bic" butane lighters in Australia. We can buy the refillable kitchen lighters, buying the refills and adapters is not so easy. Gas kitchen appliances and smoking are almost dead here. Even camping stoves are going with piezoelectric igniters. Of course, can use a camping gas stove to light another medium to light the campfire. 😊
IV had an Explorer before , i had it for acouple of months maybe ? And then the black plastic near the "flame" melted , and lighter was ruined
I also live in SC, if you want to leave the lighter in your vehicle, take a washcloth, fold it in half and wrap the lighter in it and put in the glove box. That should give it enough insulation to not overheat.
Very informative video.

Enjoyed the video. Small note: Bic lighters are made in France, not the USA. Still better than China, but that is not a high bar.
I got one off temu where the arcing part is telescopic up to like 2 inches which is much more useful than the one in this video. It also charges via usb-c and only cost like $8.00.
That looks like a neat one. I have an arc lighter but it isn't that rugged. I will add it to my list to get later. The one thing I like about them is that you just have a battery for the fuel and a simple solar panel can keep it charged.

In a survival situation all you need is a cheap solar panel, battery pack or crank radio which most preppers carry in get home bags or hiking gear.
I would say straight up, it sucks for most applications that require a flame, like staring a camp fire? and From what I have seen I would not buy it. Question- is it made in China, plastic and breaks fast ?
There's a new design still at the same price, where the arc is on top so you can apply it directly to things - if that makes sense.

Get a 28w folding solar and this usb rechargeable plasma lighter will become a sustainable and perpetual solution to start a fire. There is also other version with a removable li-ion battery, should you be concerned about keeping the lighter in warm conditions. Just remove the battery and you should be fine leaving the unit in your car. Also ABS plastic is probably way more impact resistant than your metal lighter. Not only does ABS plastic extremely tough, it absorbs the shock and impact and stays intact. This is the reason why car bumpers are made with ABS plastic. Not all plastics are created the same.
It's a "survival" lighter, most stoners won't be outdoors for much of anything requiring survival skills

the reason why high temperatures are not good for this device is because it wil melt the contacts... Same is true of people who leave taser cartridges in their car...
The warnings are most likely a US Customs generic warning list that has to be included with imported lighters. Leaving this lighter in your vehicle shouldn't be any different than a flashlight, phone, camera, etc.... after all, it's just another battery operated device.

Bic lighters are made in France and Spain and not in the USA. But of course they are still good lighters. greetings from Germany
If it’s got a battery with enough juice to make an ark continuously then it’s probably lo ion & so of course you can’t leave it in the car…I’d also remind people them battery types & others like them can suddenly burst into flames so there often banned in planes & shouldn’t be left in your favourite wooden house. Batteries have a service life but a bic can sit much longer & almost indefinitely it’s also a flint…. I like this lighter I bought the new 2023 version but I’d keep a bic in my emergency kits anyway.
