After the song of Achilles I was HEARTBROKEN. I couldn’t even process it. I was totally in denial. It took me weeks to finally process and cry. I am dead inside and don’t think I can ever recover.

I finished it yesterday night and had to go to school today… when I tell you I was on the verge of tears the ENTIRE day 😭 I don’t cry easy, and after something sad happens I tend to numb up and not feel the sadness anymore, so when I was in class and I and suddenly thought about them, then spent 3 minutes tearing up and trying my best not to cry, I was more than a bit surprised. Something in me broke after that ending, I don’t think I’m ever getting it back. I loved the book, I’m debating on whether to read The Iliad or The Odyssey, I’ll probably read both. God, I’m not crying anymore (I will if/when I re-read I know it) but I can still feel the hurt and pain in my soul. No book has ever done that to me before
I did not cry in song of Achilles either, but I do not think that changes the review for me! It was written gorgeously, with an ending that in my eyes perfectly fit, tying the book together in a perfect mix of happy and sad. I never cry in books, and that’s just me! But I can understand why people would for that book though

The thing that makes song of Achilles perfect for me is the beauty of the final chapter fully encapsulating everything. From Patroclus describing Achilles as “it” or “the body” as he is no longer a man after Patroclus’ death and only a thing waiting to die, to the conversation with Thetis, and after the years of hatred between them the etching of his name in stone and the visualization of them finally holding hands again at last. It’s midnight and I just finished this book and holy shit this is going to take a while to recover

The song of Achilles is a really good book, but I think that it was written so you feel sad and emotional on the inside only and it wasn’t meant to make you cry just feel sad
I cried at The Song of Achilles because I forgot the myth, I remembered pieces as they were happening in the book. It was beautiful and because I finished it at 4am I was destroyed next day so double the impact, lol.

that’s what i’m talking about!!! Soc and CK are soooo good
SPOILER ALERT the song of achilles had me sobbing for days. i mean not just the end part but the way Patroclus described his feelings when Achilles will be gone. i’ve watched Troy and read the greek mythology books summary in college so i knew about Trojan War and what’s going to happen. but this novel made it like we can feel how Patroclus feel, and how Achilles feel when his beloved died. i knew what’s going to happen so i felt heavy reading them in Patroclus’ pov, even the happy times they were together. “i hope they will stay as happy and fluffy like before” was what i thought.
I cried at the song of Achilles so badly
I loved the Song of Achilles, though I wish I would’ve cried, but I didn’t expect to because I’m not emotional
The SOC duology is the best i've ever read 😍
I knew what happens at the end of tsoa so the entire time I was reading it I was mentally preparing myself and I still cried a lil 😭 I would sell my soul to read it for the first time again and not know what happens

I read we were liars and it was when I just started reading more regularly and I love it 🙂
SPOILER ALERT song of achilles had me sobbing my heart out for 20 minutes and mourning like it was my lover who died. the main reason i was crying was achilles’ reaction, and remembering the best moments between him and patroclus. the ashes part and how he woke up in the night thinking patroclus was talking to him💔broke me

I absolutely love song of Achilles and I loved the boys however I didn’t cry but I feel sad for them really
SPOILER WARNING I feel like We Are Liars is either people liked it or hated it. I've seen very little in between. I personally enjoyed it although I guessed part of the plot twist. I knew the female cousin was dead, but I couldn't tell that all of them were. I hate to say it, but I thought that she had been sexually assaulted and then knocked unconscious or something on that night when they all died and that's what she couldn't remember. But I still enjoyed it.

Do we need to read shadow and bone before six of crows?
The song of Achiless left me empty, sobbing, blubbering, screaming and punching tables. And it's the very first book to make me feel this way. I'm not reactive by any means, but oh boy, did it hit, straight through the heart.
I really don’t understand how people can’t cry from tsoa every time I think about it I want to cry 😭
I agree with most except We Were Liars I started crying and felt emotionally damaged for a week after
I think I kinda agree with your opinion on we were liars. Bc if you are an impatient kind of reader or wants a thrill the plot at the beginning isn't that engaging. And tbh what kept me from reading it was the love story of Gat and Cadence and the plot twist in the end. But I think I would rate it a 3/5😁
Currently reading the song of achilles and I Love it!!
The Song of Achilles and Addie LaRue were honestly blander than white bread

More than the lack of crying it was more the lack of emotional attachment to the characters (meaning that I never cried) that meant I took off a star in my rating. Madeline miller has an incredible depth of knowledge about mythology and a beautiful writing style, I was just unable to connect to this story in the same way I feel for her other works. This video is my ‘opinions’ on the books rather than a deeper analysis of the prose and structure as it’s just a short video summing up some of my own thoughts 😊
@lunakat45

@@exlibrisjessica I’m sorry. I didn’t know the deeper story so I just assumed that was the only reason. I understand your opinion but I’ve also seen reviews on other books with bad ratings for reasons as silly as the, “oh I didn’t cry like people promised I would so I have to give this book a lower rating.” Not that that’s what you did. I also have a really deep emotional attachment to that book so yeah. Sorry if I offended you in any way.

Do we need to read shadow and bone before six of crows?
As someone that already knew the story, but from a long time in the past, reading the last chapters of Song of Achilles had me filled with dread turned to sorrow
Agree w yr ratings
I found Song of Achilles just okay…I oddly felt kinda bored with it. I think i gave it like three stars. I think it’s because I don’t really read much romance/romance genre books. I’m more on the epic fantasy/sci-fi fantasy side of books
"A good character feels like a real person"
I looooooved we were liars, I read it in Swedish and I literally bawled my eyeballs out when I finished it😭😭😭😭
I loved The Song of Achilles. The only reason I rated it a 4 star instead of a 5 is because the romance was being pushed into your face so often. I wanted to read more about their situation, and I don't mind a little romance but if I wanted a full blown romance I would pick up a book from that genre.
@quotechill

The whole point of the book is the romance - to present the Achilles in an intimate, gentle light of his private moments, instead of the usual warrior/violence tone that he's talked/written about..
We were liars is a beautiful book written so beautifully ... i didnt feel anything when i was half was through .... but trust me .... the ending is worth reading
I'd be surprised if "We were liars" was good as it is basically the autobiography of its author Lockhart before he changed his first name from Gilderoy to E. No hate just making a joke btw

If you haven’t tried Cemetery Boys I really recommend for an mlm read it’s not mythology per say as it’s modern day but so much inspiration is taken from different Latinx cultures to make a diverse community with recognisable traditions at the core of the books background and it really enhances the main story😊
