I love this idea! Mental health is so important and we need to break down the barriers preventing us from talking about it.

Spot on!! I work with so many neurodivers clients in a support roll and over the years taken it upon myself to learn the psychology behind their thought process and although it can be fairly intricate and in some ways a little fragile at times, but one thing I will say is.., they often articulate their feelings to a very well because it's common practice for them, and most of us can't understand ourselves or better yet don't care to know!

@@lnicko That's awesome that you're digging into the psychology of how your clients thought process. It really shows your commitment, and it's super cool that you're doing it to be there and help them out. Keep it up!

@PSYonion thankyou I appreciate that! I think in terms of a support provider, we really ow to all our clients to have not only a good understanding of challenges they might face with a disability itself, but also their personal struggles, and generally just knowing when something isn't right, by ways of body language, low mood, anxious/irrational behaviour, and of course knowing how to approach it and what angle to take can be tricky because neurodivergent vs neurotypical can be completely different but one and the same💁‍♂️

@@lnicko that's so great to see that you're committed to helping your clients and connecting to them on a deeper level. It takes a lot of skill and understanding to handle different issues, and it requires patience and understanding. You're doing an amazing job 🙏

To create a bond with someone that is struggling with the hard parts of the life is a very important topic i think. Because in life when we feel these kind of bad feelings we always keep ourselves from the outside world. It is a wonderful thing to learn reaching these people or if you are one of them, learning how to deal with these feelings that literally locks you in a cage and destroy all your bonds with people you love

In my experience, the problem with opening up about chronic long term mental health issues is that family and friends will start to shut me out. That leads to more isolation which compounds the problem. So I just usually bottle it up and say I'm doing ok. It's a lose/lose situation with me.

  • @drali

There's def research to backup your experience. The more stigmatized a problem is, the less likely people are to get help for it. This needs to change. I want to explore how we can open up and increase the chances of getting support.

I use the metaphor of a "social battery" to explain my need to limit social interactions without eliminating them. That seeing me sitting alone in the corner means I'm recharging, where my departure means I'm burned out. [Examples redacted, available upon request.]

Hey Dr Ali! Really glad to have found your channel. What would you say is best advice for someone that has dealt with a lot of public/social abuse over time based on their physical appearance, and ultimately has lead to avoidance on weekly events and a big cause of my SAD. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Already enjoy some of the vids !

Hi, thank you for the video. Quick question: can you please recommend lectures and material to go through for person like me who doesn't have a psychology background but wants to become a counselor soon. Lectures I should go through to strengthen my base in psychology and counselling, core concepts, learning to read people etc etc. so much so that once I am done with counselling diploma and these lectures, I don't feel the need that I should have done bachelors in psychology and I am able to take clients with strong cases (not diagnosed ones of course since I won't be am actual therapist)

A specific and weird question, but could you give me your input on using TRT to treat symptoms of low testosterone in men such as depression and anxiety. Why does the global medical system approve treatment only for people who are below a certain amount, minimal "healthy" amount, while it is very well researched that symptoms appear when the total testosterone is below ~15 nmol/dL?! Doing a bit of observation and research on peoples personal experiences I've come to note that it significantly impacts the mental health and societal functionality of men. I'm not into conspiracies, but the whole thing seems kind of shady to me.
