Yeah I am with you on this, not this exact bike but the fact all modern bikes are slowly losing their aesthetics. Kinda started with the Ducati 916 for me and got progressively worse and as I like curves, then the Ducati 851 or 888 were infinitely better looking in my opinion. Honda wise older gen Fireblade's look amazing and I had a ride on an RC45 probably the best looking bike ever IMO.

What a bike, every time I see one I only think of 1 thing, the late great Joey Dunlop. I seen him at the Cookstown 100 and the Northwest 200 in 2000 on the sp1 and the noise of it at full rip is something I won’t forget especially when your boy hood idol is racing it. Hell of a bike and for a 48 year old man at the time he could still show the younger racers how to ride it. Little did I know that would be the last I’d ever see him racing again 😥

Was such a shame to lose such a legend
I've had one of these for the last 15 years (an 00 SP1). It's never let me down, still an amazing ride and still gets the people coming up to have a look and a chat at the local meets. My only complaint is that after 25 years of playing rugby and being six foot two, I need to take Ibuprofen BEFORE I get on her! Still won't be selling her though. Great review and I thought the boys in blue really did themselves proud there. Great to see.

True professionals -- respectful and polite, explaining what they're doing, why they stopped by and checking you out in a friendly way. A credit to the UK police! This should be shown to all officers as an example of how to conduct spot checks in highly sensitive areas like Chequers. Police there have had some tough incidents to deal with in the past, the kind of things the public never hear about, and you can be sure you had a couple of scopes on you too! Still, they showed you can be diligent and not intimidating. Enjoyed the video!

Their roadside manner was pleasant, but I fail to see why they both slung their AR15s as they exited their car. They had pistols on their belts, and were riding double. Looked like serious overkill...............but maybe that's how the "unarmed" English police roll nowadays.
Another great video--this one brought back memories of watching WSB in the 90's and cursing Ducati's "unfair" advantage. (I was and remain a Honda fanboy.) I also got to ride a borrowed VTR 1000 from Los Angeles, across the Angeles Crest Highway, through Big Bear and back to LA. I still to this day remember the gobs of torque and how light the front end became if I wasn't judicious with the throttle. Thanks again...
Priceless. Brilliant work TMF, especially the outtakes, shows just how much effort you put in to your videos. I salute you.

Hondas never die. I own a 27 year old Honda Transalp 600V which is a V twin liquid cooled too. But it’s an adventure bike. One day, when I’m rich, I’d like a dirt bike, a race bike and an adventure bike. Things missing from older bikes (including mine) which I’d like: ABS, traction control and a fuel gauge. Judging by the number of accidents where riders grabbed too much front brake, ABS is a worthwhile addition. Maybe traction control too. Oh, and British cops are cool.

@@FrankFurther Your views are at best based on narrow minded personal prejudice and at worst thoroughly offensive to a group of public servants who have continued to work and serve the public throughout this current crisis. My wife and I have 60 years of police service between us and I can assure you 99% of police officer are not " power hungry" or "dickheads"... And frankly are far too busy to waste time stopping motorcyclist for no reason. The vast majority also have a far more extensive knowledge of the law than you! In that note I might add that...a) you don't get three points on your licence for just having a noisy bike. b) If you were given a fixed penalty notice, you had the option of challenging it in court if you feltl it was so unjust... And finally c) if you have only got three points on your licence, why would you have it taken away if you get stopped again? Perhaps if you wish to express your views you could try to do it in a less offensive way.

Great review. I used to have one of those - mine was an RC51 Nicky Hayden replica. Loved the bike but the vibrations would make my hands and feed numb on the highway. Still a good looking bike after all these years!

It's amazing how they stand up to modern day bikes. I've just reviewed a 92 FireBlade and was shocked how it would still hold its own 30 years later.
Man, I remember these coming out after I got the “new R1”. I immediately fell in love with them and wanted one so damn. I never ended up getting one. Always seemed to get a different bike. Still have that yearning. Maybe a nice Nicky Haden edition would be a fun pick up. Then again, Colin Edwards was my favorite in those days.
Loved these as a youngster, beautiful machine and a great vid as usual. Keep up the good work

I remember test riding the SP 1 in 2001 whilst trying to do a deal and trade in my Suzuki TL1000r. Night and day difference in braking and handling although the power difference wasn’t that noticeable (my TL was well sorted in the fuel and exhaust dept though). I was oversteering it everywhere for the first 3-4 miles as it was so light and required no effort to turn in compared to the TL. The first time I braked hard from speed my backside lifted right out of the seat! Unfortunately I couldn’t do a deal, they were in such short supply the dealer could almost name his price! Added to the fact at the time it was more expensive than my wife’s new car, ouch!
Always craved for one of these, along with the RD 500 LC.
That was my dream bike back in the day. Always used to pull up at the local Honda dealer on my ZXR400 and just gaze through the window to the beauty on the pedestal.. what a machine.. 👍🏽

I have just done my first bike video , on the SP1. It is a lot harder than it looks . I had more outtakes than intakes :-)
I was a big fan of the late 90s Japanese V-Twins. Went with the TL1000S myself (which I've still got), but the VTR1000F (as well as the SP1 and SP2) and the Yamaha TRX850 both got a good look.
If my memory serves me right , Kiwi Aaron Slight used to race one of these against the likes of Carl Fogarty .I used to support Troy Bayliss on the Ducati back in the day. Must have been something to do with the sound of the Ducati in the World Superbikes Championships.

Good review of such an iconic machine. I’ve owned quite a few of them. With most people opting for R1s and GSXRs at the time sadly these bikes were overlooked so Honda eventually heavily discounted them as well as throwing in a few treats like a day trip to the factory in Louth and a day at WSB in Silverstone to meet Colin Edwards, get fed and come home with a goodie bag. I bought a comfort seat and did two European trips on my SP2, they’ll do over 100 miles on a full tank as long as you’re not acting the edjeet. Anyways, I enjoyed your review 👍🏻

Brilliant review. I owned one in 2001. A fabulous bike with character. Joey did pretty well on it as way.
If i ever have the chance or capacity to be a collector of older bikes, this one is right at the top. Saw the WorldSBK a few times, when it was still being raced at Kyalami, here in South Africa. Can remember that distinct sound of the Honda. Great video as always. Cheers

Cheers!
Oh the music of those gear driven cams... such a lovely bike!
What a beautiful bike that SP is, always loved 'em but never had the chance to ride one. Got to take my hat off to the pair of police officers too. No aggression or arrogance, just polite, professional and friendly. Top work by all three of you !

Thank you Michael...
I have 2 of these, 1 in my sun room, future investment hopefully. The second is an every day bike, love the bike. Bit lumpy and hot in town but you learn to live with it. Love the torque of the engine. Unfortunately been stopped for speeding twice this lovely summer so I'm afraid to take it out now 😣. Definitely a head turner!
Cool video! Enjoyed it. Cheers mate. Wish I was there riding through the beautiful countryside of England with ya.. But I am stuck in the miserable desert heat of 103 farenheit in Nevada

Funny isn’t it, I love the deserts of the western US - I guess variety is the key! Thanks for watching...
I bought one of these new when they came out. It was almost the perfect bike for me, quite radical but that’s what I wanted at the time. The few things I noticed were; it’d sometime cut out when dawdling trough traffic in hot weather and then didn’t start immediately, the clutch was very grabby when trying to get a quick getaway, and the rear end seemed a little isolated and vague to me - I stoped a few times thinking that I’d got a puncture in the rear tyre. Apart from that, I loved it.
Nice review of a classic machine, the sound of those gear driven cams takes me right back having owned an SP1 for a couple of years between 2009-2012, I lusted after an SP1 since I first saw one at the NEC in 1999, but the £10k price tag was more than I could justify in 99/2000. I loved my SP1, wish I'd never sold it, one of the quickest point to point down a twisty (my test route) road bikes I've owned or ridden, only bettered by my K5 1000, for sheer out of a corner pulling power and turn of speed, having owned a lot of bikes the SP1 is one of my all time favourites, along with the bike I replaced it with a GSXR1000K5, now also sadly consigned to the bikes of my biking history, and now both starting to gain in value... especially the Honda, wouldn't you just know it 🙄 As a side note the question of top speed, but I saw a fair bit more than 150 indicated, but mine had open race cans and modified inlet. damn missing that bike , think I need another...
Great review. Outstanding motorcycle. Cheers from NZ.
