Honda Vision 110 on a UK motorway. Part 1

This is helmet cam footage of using the Honda Vision 110 on the M5 motorway in the UK. This is to demonstrate that the Vision is much more than just a "city" bike and is perfectly capable of handling motorway riding.
This is the first of three videos. We start on joining the motorway at junction 3 (southbound). The next is while on the motorway and the final video is exiting at junction 4.

Yes, you technically can take a scooter or a small motorcycle on a motorway in UK, but it must be over 50cc and you can NOT do it if you only have CBT certificate. I think that's important to clarify since most people on 125cc and smaller bikes only have CBT.

Many thanks for posting your videos. The panel removal ones have been very helpful. I have a Vision too and love it. I’ve a gps fitted and the speedo is about 10% out so top speed is actually about 60 mph in good conditions. I agree motorways are doable but you are rarely out the slow lane.

Andrew this is wild! I just got back from Portugal where I rented one of these and was impressed with how fast it was for a 110! I wondered if they could handle a motorway and if they even sold them in the UK and here you are in the first video that pops up literally driving past my house M5 Junction 3 :D

I bought one yesterday and had to drive it from w3ales to Bristol in strong winds and rain and it was pretty sketchy going over the severn bridge getting blown across my lane

Best bike in the world! Ive done over 30000 miles on two Visions over the past eight years. Carry it on the back of a motorhome. Not ideal on a motorway but perfectly doable. Biggest issue is hills though two up I find and if your on an A road with a long drag you can end up holding up the traffic a bit. Other than that we absolutely love ours. Handling is superb.

How can a big screen improve the top end performance ? It will surely slow it down

  • @markr956

It is more aerodynamic above say 30mph, so will go faster. The screen directs the air flow over and around the rider. Hence he is not getting too much bufferting, which would slow him down.

I know it sounds a little counter-intuitive that a sizeable screen would actually improve the top speed, but a screen smooths the airflow around the rider - as Mark R says.

I have a Forza 350 and I can put the screen down or up by pressing a button. I can feel the change in real-time. Believe me, the bike becomes slower.

Arguably motorways would be far safer than many other roads because there is plenty of overtaking space, ie so impatient vehicles dont need to force you into the gutter.

Technically it is OK but the bike is so light even the side draft from a truck or bus could have you over and UK motorway inside lanes are the worst surface you can have, but bearing in mind the so called Smart motorways have just about a permanent 60 or even 50 speed limit they are very doable on a smaller capacity bike M6 M42 M3 M4 M1 and M25 rarely get a 70mph limit now they are smart , more like stupid operators who think it is funny slowing everyone down to 50 just for fun when there are no hazards or problems on the roads.
