Seriously. Thank you for this. I been procrastinating cleaning behind the front sprocket cover specifically because I saw the clutch system attached and was worried there might be something I wasn't prepared to deal with when taking it off. ❤

Easier than you think buddy
Mate, this was a great vid. I'm just doing exactly the same on my 800Fi only taken a week! doing it on the drive between rain storms and awaiting the chain splitter etc etc. But all went well until the easy bit of refitting the front sprocket cover, and after trying to see why its not going on the last 10mm I guessed its that rod. As this has taken an age I think the piston, just quietly crept out a little each day. But thanks to you I now know what to do! Incidentally I removed my sprocket cover in one piece, so fewer bolts to get wrong ( as you mentioned I think there's three long ones, but one of these is about 8mm shorter than the others o/a length probably about 110mm, so to be just a little shorter is annoying). But I will now remove the clutch bit to push the piston back and maybe the other bit if the mounting that fits over the sprocket nut doesn't align easily. Thanks again ....rains stopped so lets see if I can do this!
Craig i`m doing this now to mine and yes front sprocket was full of dudu, my bike has rear seat frame off as well as i found a bad earth that had melted all the way to the fuel tank pump, wires and gubbins all over the damn place lol.😁
Thanks for the video. Very helpful, particularly the link testing as I had no idea how to know when it is time to replace it.
Great job guys that's gotta feel nice to ride again now. Good tip for keeping bolts in order is to poke them through a piece of card in the same position as you take them off.🤘

Great idea cheers
Great video fellas! Big help!
Nice video, just what I was looking for. Got confused because on one page of the repair manual for my 1999 VFR it was told that the clutch needs to be drained before removing the slave cylinder, but I didn't believe that was necessary: just as your video confirmed.
Thanks for making the video! I just discovered that my 98 VFR chain is way too lose. Trying to research now to see if I can remedy it or if I need to replace it.
Good one went well the old sprockets didn't look horrendous but that chain was certainly buggered ,bet it felt and sounded great .👍

Feels like a new bike
Great vid. I'm going to be doing my Gen5 shortly. Quick question - is it ok to tighten the front sprocket against the gearbox, or is it better being in neutral and tightening it with the backwheel on the ground once the chain has been fitted. Ta.

I would say with back wheel on ground. I imagine against the gearbox that the gear would turn.
what is that plastic cover he removes at 6:09? my chain broke while riding and cracked it and I'm looking to get a replacement. future thank you for the helpful video (for when I do get around to getting another chain xD)

Tight /loose /tight means that your chain needs to be replaced. Nothing else.... Chain will stretch irregular and boom it looks like it's tight, then you will move it by half a turn and boom it's loose. Please replace it to prevent additional wear of sprockets and all of that :D
8:30 how did you keep the rear wheel still while you took out the bolts??

Great video Craig , The AD Extreme bike cleaner did well there usally for something with heavy grease or old chain lube the Extreme chain and sprocket cleaner will shift it with ease , your new apprentice looks a bit dodgy tho 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah I’ve sacked him, caught him sleeping on the job 😂
Should have held the sprockets together side by side to compare.
What did put on the frame near the seat? Carbon fiber tape?
@Motourev
Жыл бұрын
Yes just carbon wrap as the paint work was crap
be careful with old bikes our mondeo takes ages to start up probably because we go to every carboot at 7am in Skegness
What size of tool did You use to adjust te chain tension? (C-wrench)

@@Motourev Thanks for The tip!! I looked in The tool bag under The Seat and it was in there!!
Did I count 16 teeth on that front sprocket ? ⚙️ my Viffer has 17 teeth on the front but looking at some ads for chain / sprocket set kits online a lot are saying OEM is 17 front and a lot say OEM is 16 ????

Not sure if you found your answer somewhere else in between but for what it's worth the haynes manual (for VFRs 2002-2009) is stating that final drive is 16/43 ✌🏻

@@logazeuze thanks 🙏 the chain & sprocket kit I ordered was 16 / 43 my mechanic messaged me saying did I want to change the gearing because the existing front sprocket was 17, turns out my speedo is accurate now with the 16 tooth front, the previous mechanic obviously gave me what he had not what I needed 😜
Whats the oem linkage length for the vfr800?

I'm sure you've already found the answer by now. But for future scrollers OEM is 530 - 110 links
