Do you have to score the edges to get the excess off or does it naturally peel off right at the outside edge of the emblem

@@fixinit ya it wasn't tearing at the edges of the emblem like in the video...so I'm starting from scratch.

The title of this video should be how to black out your honda emblem. This isn't "fixing" it. You're just covering it up.

That is nice. For mine I used a chrome paint pen and carefully painted the "H". I could have taped off around the H but I didn't need to by doing it slowly.

Just wanna say THANK YOU for this video. I just got a 2010 Element where a big chunk of the chrome was missing. I followed your instructions and now have a nice matte black wheel badge instead. Looks so much better. You rock sir!

Who are these companies using as suppliers for the steering wheels? My Mazda 3 is doing the same thing, and I'm seeing comments in this thread that it's happening to a lot of vehicles. You would think they would use a better process for what a new car costs.

Do they make gloss black?, that looks really good!

This is nice! I like the flat black look but I am a perfectionist in restoring trim pieces back to factory specs. I would have probably popped it off and used liquid chrome for a more original look. I plan to do just that with my wife's Toyota emblem soon. But still... great job and it does look cool in black!

Unfortunately you cant pop these emblems off because they have plastic rivets in the back. It would require taking the airbag off.

Came here to also say, the emblem doesn't pop off, unless the airbag goes off, and then it's just glued to the middle of two busted sides 😅

Good video. Pros would remove the airbag for easier access. It's pretty easy actually.

i just used a black perm marker pen done the job

If you want something more durable just use vinyl wrap very small piece of it it'll blend and corporate perfectly just use a exacto knife.

You can but it won’t be as easy. I would try using red duplicolor plus the duplicolor clear coat if you want it to look glossy.

Or you can just buy a Honda emblem sticker online and stick it right over the old one. Did this for my Honda Pilot and it only took seconds and looks great!

Just did this yesterday with regular paint. I should've used Plasti dip but it looks better either way

My older hondas H never had this problem.

why not just tape in flush to the logo instead of peeling it off from the steering at the end?

What if I dont have the sand paper and I gotta remove the chrome thing?

It’s called PLASTI DIP. It’s a rubber coating. Not paint.

Gosh...much better than removing the whole thing and changing a new plastic piece. Now look for chrome or black pen.

Great video….except where do you get a newspaper? It’s like someone said “to hold this in place just rip apart cardboard sleeves from cassette tape singles. Everyone has those lying around right?”

Or buy the jdm emblem that sticks on over that from eBay and not ruin your steering wheel airbag in case you sell the car one day. Jdm badges look better too…

Another way to fix it is to sand off loose paint and use a silver metallic Sharpie.

I’m assuming this won’t work with regular spray paint?

Or just take the emblem out. If it breaks off pay $20 for a new one.

Guys seriously a brand new black steering wheel logo is cheaper and installs in minutes compared to this. Just plastic tool the logo off and glue on the new one. It's literally minutes.

The stock emblem is not glued on. I wouldn’t trust a stick on emblem to stay in place when the air bag blows up in your face at 200mph. But that’s just me.😎

Why not just replace the emblem. Wayy to much work involved doing it the way you did lol

I really like how it comes out flat black, and both blends in and matches the steering wheel. MUCH better than the original silver. Plasti-Dip, I never knew. Thanks!
