I did extended door checkers, rocknroll retractable bed cover and disable vcm. Everything else came standard on my 2017 black edition. Had a fuel injector go bad around 80k, extended warranty covered replacement for all. It drove fine above 2k rpm, lower than that there was rpm variation and gentle jerking. Other than that, trouble free. I renovated 3 homes and did cross country move with it. Honda deserves a medal for this model.

Forgot to mention in the video that I also did the door check mod. I’m getting close to 50k miles, no issues except for backup camera wire harness failure which was taken care under warranty. This is my second Ridgeline and I’ll probably buy another in a few years.

@@Koolbob2 that is super. I absolutely love mine, there is nothing better in midsize truck segment. If there was extra two inches of cabin length it would be total perfection.

One of the best modifications that I made to my 2019 Ridgeline was also one of the cheapest. The rear doors didn’t open as wide as I thought they should, making it tight when loading larger items behind the front seat or for larger individuals getting in and out. I saw the video “Honda Ridgeline Rear Door Hack Mod-Replacing the Door Checkers”. Basically you replace the shorter rear door checks with longer front door checks. Your rear doors will open an additional 5” or 6”. Total cost was about $30 and maybe 30-45 minutes of my time. I also put a Leer camper shell on mine and added a gray astroturf like bed liner. Very pleased with the vehicle and my setup.👍

I have a 19 rtl-e. Love it!! I had an 07 for 3 years, loved it too!! It's the swiss army knife of trucks.

Love my 2020 Black Edition. Buick with a box! It's seriously a great truck. I'd buy another one tomorrow.

Love our 2023. With the exception of water leaking into the cab. Pull up the floor mats after a rain, or after a car wash; if there's a leak, you'll find condensation on the bottom of the rubber floor mats. My wife was vacuuming out our truck when she discovered the entire carpet underneath the mats was soaked. It's at the dealer now for repair. So far they've found two different leaks where Honda failed to seal the vehicle properly: one from the rear window, and the other where the bed mates to the cab. Just an FYI for folks ;)

I'm sorry your Ridgeline has a leak, it is a problem that had been appearing on a thankfully small number of second generation Ridgelines on and off for years. I think it has always been traced back to insufficient seam sealant in a couple of critical areas on the back of the cab. I don't know if the sealant in this area is applied by robot or humans, but they really should have worked this out by now. I hope you get your Ridgeline back soon and the leak never reoccurs.

I had a 2012 Ridgeline RTL-E that didn't need any repairs for the 6-years I drove it. The plan was to keep it for a few more years, but I took it to the Honda dealer for a minor recall and the tech working on it grabbed a salesman and they inspected my 2012 top to bottom while it was on the lift and made me a trade-in offer I couldn't refuse. 💰+😃 It will be a few years before I get a new vehicle, but if I had to buy a new vehicle today I'd buy another Ridgeline.

Just got a 2022 Black Edition. Been wanting one to replace my 18 year old truck for the past three years now. So glad to finally have one! I've had eight Ford trucks before and this is my first non-Ford Truck.

@E5m congratulations on your new Ridgeline! The only Ford I've ever owned was a '69 F100 (302, two-barrel, 3-speed auto, short bed) It was fun to blast down dirt roads in, but scary on wet roads and got about 12MPG.

Nice review, thanks for sharing. I had a 2006 and really enjoyed it. I am in the market for another one and have my eye on a 2023 Black edition.

Thanks for watching! My first Ridgeline was a 2012 and I liked it so much I decided to get another Ridgeline when I was ready to sell the 2012. I really like the styling of the 2022-23 models and I am planning to get another Ridgeline in a few years.

I totally agree with the glitchy infotainment system, it is a serious weakness. I have had 16.9 oz coke go everywhere because the cupholders are atrocious. The cupholders were an easy fix with aftermarket alternatives but the infotainment system is another beast in itself. My google maps freeze in it all the time (satellite view) with carplay. Sometimes the songs and the maps overlay each other and I have to restart the vehicle. I think I would wait for the 10 speed transmission as well because the 9 speed is not the smoothest. I have a 2020 RTL-E. One more thing, if I could permanetly disable the stop/start mechanism I certainly would. Now Honda has issued a warning about it saying that it could mess up the valves in the engine (got that in the mail yesterday).

Thanks for this video. You may have sold me on this vehicle. Also, husky makes a superb floor mat with great coverage like weathertech but more of a durable rubber material.

I owned a couple of Audi A4s, both 6speed manual, turbo, Quattro and not stock ;), but the back seat stayed folded down most of the time because I needed to haul things. I was leaning toward getting an A4 Avant (station wagon), but then I drove a first generation Ridgeline and loved it. I'm perfectly happy with my 2018 Ridgeline, but if I had to buy a new vehicle today I'd definitely get a new Ridgeline. PS - I looked at the Husky, Weather Tech, OEM, Maxliner and 3D MAXpider. All are great options.

Just ran across this video. I had a 18 RTLE and recently replaced it with a 22 RTLE. I'd done just about all your upgrades to the 18 (and have done the applicable ones to the 22) ... as well as quite a few others. Only thing I didn't know about was that divider for the center console. Just ordered one after seeing this. Will be so nice to finally tidy up that black hole full of stuff. Really appreciate that tip! (And no, the cup holders are the same nonsense in the 22)

2019 ridgeline had it for 3 years love this truck would not consider there newer models love the pistol grip shifter and turn radio nobes do not care for push button

"they" make aftermarket cupholder things that can help with your dilemma. I'm honestly surprised you haven't found one that you like considering your other fixes that you've done. Anyway. Good video!

It is a matter of taste but i also added Door visors by Honda , it gives a small different look to the truck and help when opening the windows in rainy days… the part # is 08R04-T6Z-101, they are expensive $258.65 with tax but they are not made of cheap plastic as you can find from other companies, easy to install and they don’t make any wind noise. I also installed the door checker mentioned by @DL 3 years ago and that is worth every penny… Thanks for your video 😊

I looked for stainless steel visors for the Ridgeline, like the ones we had on our '69 F100 when I was growing up, but I could only find them in tinted plastic. I decided to pass on the plastic ones, just because I don't love the look of them. I can't believe I forgot to mentioning the video that I changed out the rear door checkers ages ago. You are correct, it's a cheap, easy and very beneficial mod!

Love my 21 RTLE. And the cup holders are the same lol and the infotainment system is horrible but it’s still the best mid size truck out there.

My ‘18 RTL-E was the perfect follow-up to my ‘14 Ridgeline SE and I love both. 100% of the utility of any mid-size truck with 0% of the body-on-frame wanna-be shortcomings of other small trucks. My gripes: Apple CarPlay isn’t as reliable as my wife’s Mazda. And the shorty door checks that only allow the rear doors to open about 18 inches, really limits what you can put In That great rear cab

I actually forgot about the rear door checkers, I swapped mine out for the front door checkers so the rear doors open much wider now. Honda started using longer door checkers on the new models, you could get them from any Honda dealership.If I get the chance I'll look up the part numbers and add them to the video description.

any issues with the transmission? i was looking at one with 64k miles for 25k, but i keep reading stories about not so good trans dying at less than 100k miles. im sure the engine will last a long time but im worried about buying a 2018 and have to worry about when the trans might fail, also why does the water pump and timing belt need to be changed at 60k miles? thx.

I remember the high floor and low seat riding position of the old Toyota mini trucks of the 80's and I am surprised some of that still exist with the newer Tacomas. Seeing and driving my first Ridgeline was an eye opening experience. After owning two Audis, every other truck I drove seemed crude and primitive. I urge you to take one for a spin and within a few blocks you will know if it's the right truck for you.

Last year I traded in my too big Ram 1500 for a new Tacoma and after about 700 miles I just couldn’t tolerate the sitting low with legs straight forward driving position. I retired a couple months ago and decided to treat myself to a new Mercedes suv. That too has been disappointing after several electronic glitches with the brand new vehicle. In fact I just got it back after 42 consecutive days in the dealership. A 4 day old car with under 200 miles on it shouldn’t have these issues and my wife still won’t drive it. The dealer’s and regional customer service reps lack of empathy (what’s the big deal we gave you a loaner) was disturbing. I can’t really haul mulch or pick up a couple of pcs of sod so some of my retirement projects remain undone. I can’t haul too much back and forth to the boat & marina. So a sensible non-truck like the Ridgeline might be the answer. Now if I can muster up the courage to broach the subject with my supervisor (wife). Sorry for the long response but your video really hit a cord with me because you strike as a non truck guy like myself. I could use a truck but without the lack of refinement truck part.

Agree with most of this including the light leaking issue in the bed despite a tonneau. Added an interlocking floor mat that keeps a buffer zone between the contents and the actual bed... Minor leaking flows easily out under the open, rigid mat material and doesn't get bed contents wet... Love my 2019 that replaced my 2017 after being pulled off the road by some slushy spring snow and crashing dead center into a pine about the size of a utility pole. All crash zones worked perfectly, and with no injury whatsoever, got out of the truck and onto the road, and when I looked back I noticed the engine was still running! Went back in and turned it off... Amazing safety features in case of emergency... Just sayin'...

Glad you got out uninjured! I have a generic rubber trunk mat about 30"x40" with 1" sidewalls that I keep in the bed to keep messy items from leaking on the floor and to keep things from sliding around. When I travel I put my luggage on the Matt and it stays 100% dry no matter how much it rains.

Here is some advice from a 2021 RTL owner... 1)Install an auto start/stop defeat module to save your motor mounts and starter motor 2)Install a Variable Cylinder Management defeat module to stop your engine from burning oil between oil changes as your engine ages..

Thanks, my 2018 didn’t have auto start/stop. I think that is only on 2020 and newer with the 9 speed transmission. Reading the Ridgeline forums I see where the auto start/stop debates get as heated as what’s the best oil to use. :) I’ll probably do the same thing I did on this Ridgeline, negotiate the Honda Care 8-year/100,000-mile warranty down to $1,500 and any problems that come up will be covered. So far I haven’t used the warranty and so we’ll see how the next 4-years go.

Got 21 ridge line. Best ever. Coming from 2 tacomas. ❤

Yea, running wires to a truck door is easy since a door only swings in one direction with only about 45-60 degrees or arc. Running a bundle of wires to a tailgate that swings 70-degrees in one direction and drops 90-degrees in the other direction is going to be a challenge. IMHO Honda should have used a more flexible wire casing and put a little more slack in the wire. I've read where others have had this wiring harness break, some have been able to get the harness replaced by the dealer for free, others have paid to have it replaced or repaired the harness themselves. I think Honda needs to step up and replace any tailgate harness that fails for free.

Ive had 2 08s. Really liked em and hate how both got totalled. 1 to a neighbor 1 to deer. I wanna get the newer model to be sure.

Canadian versions come with ventilated front seats and CD player.

I love everything about my 2019 Ridgeline except for the SUV looking front end and the radio. I have the RTL model.

Yea, the front end styling on the 2017-2019 models is kinda blah. I liked the 'chunky' styling and navigation system with a volume knob on my 2012 Ridgeline and the redesigned front end and the return of a volume knob are welcomed additions to the newer Ridgelines. I'm planning to buy another Ridgeline in 3 or 4 years and I hope there will be a plug-in hybrid version by then so I can use electric-only for my daily errands and have the extended range without any charging anxiety for long trips.

Thank you for your video nicely done. One thing holding me back from buying one is the infotainment/dashboard plus I really wish the backseat had about another 1 to 2 inches of legroom. I am tall and so are my teenage kids. Do you have any insight or word when GEN 3 will ever come out?

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. The first generation Ridgeline ran eight years (2006 to 2014) with a refresh in 2009. Generation two was introduced in 2017 and continually updated with a styling refresh in 2021. Honda frequently redesigns it cars every four years with a refresh two years before the end of run for that model, the Ridgeline is a comparatively low volume vehicle so they don't redesign them as frequently. I wouldn't expect a completely new Ridgeline until 2024 or later, probably 2025-26.

Have the 17 RTLE, love it. One issue is I tow a 4k lbs trailer and have had to replace the torque converter, not cool. I’m at 70k miles now, hopefully will not have any more issues. Great truck, but if you plan on towing I’d look to maybe the Tundra. Thanks for your review.

Our 2016 Accord and 2018 Ridgeline are still going strong with very few issues. I do wish the infotainment system was more state-of-the-art, but it works fine. I still recommend the Ridgeline to anyone who doesn't need to tow over 5,000lbs or do any aggressive off-roading.

I opted for the fender guards because my 2006 got scratch like crazy when I'd go camping. The splash guards aren't great for snow. Lots of ice build-up and I'm kicking stuff off them every day. I think it looks more clean without them also, AND due to the low ground clearance, not splash guards means they aren't scratching on the ground when off roading.

Good points, we rarely get any snow here and I rarely take the truck off road so splash guards are a must for me to help keep the truck clean and minimize rock ships. Some Ridgeline owners even prefer the Weathertech splashguards because they are several inches longer than the OEM ones.

@Koolbob2 I use to live on the west side of the cascade mts where is was always raining. And had the splash guards with my 2006. But I moved to the east side where there has been snow on the ground for months every year, so I definitely wanted the fenders, but opted against the splash. Thanks for the video. The quests turns to the best tent/camper configuration. A Leer canopy, a ladder type rack with a tent above it, something custom... we'll see. Fact remains I drive 90% on paved roads and I simply would have gone with an SUV and gotten a utility trailer I the Ridgeline was not an option. It's so comfortable to drive. If only airplane seats were this comfy.

Great useful video... I just bought a 2023 RTL and will be ordering the Honda splash guards and floor protectors, thank much on warning us on the Weather tech mats. I would be very concerned about that static build up possibly zapping some expensive and vital electronic (control) component under the dash. Love the trunk light add on idea!

I'm thinking about leasing one right now. I don't even need a pick up but the lease programs are good on the Ridgeline right now and crappy on all other Honda models. lol

Just a few months ago all Honda models were scarce and selling for over sticker price, then as production improved prices dropped to around sticker price. Recently I've heard of buyers getting Hondas below sticker and Honda financing interest rates dropped significantly. Ridgelines, Pilots, Passports and Odysseys are built at the Lincoln Alabama plant. I think Ridgeline parts are available and the parts for the others are snot as plentiful so they are building more Ridgelines and offering low interest rates and attractive leasing plans to sell off the 'excess' Ridgeline production.

Just traded my 07 for a 23. Great vehicle for how I use it.

I loved my 2012 Ridgeline and had no intentions of selling it. Then I took it to the dealer for maintenance and they offered my a great deal to trade it for a new 2018. I am very happy with my 2018 and I'm doing my own service so I don't go to the dealership and end up coming home with a 2023. 😆 We'll probably get a new car for my wife in the next year or so, but I'm holding off on getting another Ridgeline because I'm enjoying the relaxation that comes from owning a vehicle with a few miles on it and a few dings.

You can also buy hood struts for them instead of using the prop rod

Yea, I added aftermarket hood struts to my first generation Ridgeline. They were nice, but I like being able to raise the hood almost vertically for easier access.

Make sure you change your transmission filter dealership say they don't do that but have them do that

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2024 RTL and ran across this video. Very helpful, especially your detailed description of the BAKFlip Tonneau cover. Does the fact that the cover will completely obstruct your view out of the back window (when fully retracted) ever pose a problem? I was thinking about the BAK Revolver X4S because when it's fully retracted (rolled up), it doesn't completely obstruct your view out of the back window. What do you think?

Thanks for watching! I consider having the rear window blocked by the BakFlip when it's fully folded a 'feature' much more often than an inconvenience. More than one I've had a large object in the bed and had to brake suddenly or go down a steep incline and had the cargo shift and leave a small dent in the underside of the BakFlip. Maybe a rolled up cover would have also protected the rear window, maybe not. The only time I've been disappointed with the rear window being blocked was when I was backing up to a loading dock with the tailgate down (rendering the backup camera useless). I could have removed the BakFlip completely, but I was able to use the side rearview mirrors to get close enough to unload the cargo.

Thank you for the quick response. The BAK Revolver X4S is aluminum, so I'm guessing in it's fully rolled-up position, it would also stop a load from hitting the back window, but I don't know. I'll probably ask the question of others who have it. Also, you said the backup camera is useless when the tailgate is down. Honda (their website) says that a down tailgate does not interfere with the backup cameras, so I'm wondering if this is a new fix on the newer models. I'll double-check. Thanks, again for your great reviews and info!

I really like the ridgeline. Left my local honda dealership wanting the 2023 ridgline black edition. The white on black scheme is great and the new rims are stylish. They want 47k for it. But offered me MSRP on my 2021 honda civic... i realize my trade in value will never get better than this. But that price is just too high

Yea, I priced a new Ridgeline RTL-E and even though I could get a lot for my low milage 2018, the cost of the new Ridgeline's is bonkers. Our Accord is 6-years old and the Ridgeline is 4-years old, both have low miles and have been trouble free so we're going to keep them for a few more years and hope the market settles down by then.

Very lovely vehicle. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Looked at the 22' but I didn't like the front upgrade

Hey Bob! We bought a 2023 RTL almost a month ago. Absolutely love it. I love it a bit more than my 2002 GMC Yukon that I kept honestly over 20 years. My daughter had a Honda Civic that she (fresh out of college) and her cattle dog beat the heat out of. And during Covid and the container ship fiasco, a Jaguar dealership literally bought it for cash, Above value, they were desperate for used cars and she had moved to the city and the cost of parking a car was like a 1/2 pmt on an apartment. I love to garden and multiple weekly feed store trips to feed the wildlife (my house abutts a forest preserve) and this is the most versatile vehicle on the market for those not needing a work truck. And that trunk in the tail bed is a stroke of brilliance. My Acura RDX (stupid buy move after a Yukon and a Lexus 330) was a surprisingly dumb car to own considering it’s Honda’s cousin. This is a daily driving reminder, many women (especially moms and gardeners) need a truck to meet all the hats in their daily life. Is there any particular cover brands you recommend for the truck bed? For sure I am buying the splash guards and thanks for the extended warranty info. Will be looking into that with a closer dealership than where I bought. Very educational tweaking the heck out of your Ridgeline🎉 info!

Great video! Thank you. I am hoping to wait until the end of 2024 before buying a new truck (midsize or 1/2 ton). By then, our 2009 Kia Borrego V8 (rated to tow 7,500 lbs) will have 175,000 miles on it. We tow a 2005 Casita travel trailer 5,000 to 8,000 miles per year. Our trailer weighs 2,900 lbs loaded. We are not sure that we want the size and cumbersomeness of a full-size truck, particularly as a daily driver. The Ridgeline is at the top of our list. We are impressed with its cargo carrying capacity. Impressive for a mid-size truck. However, the 5,000 lb tow rating is low compared to many other mid-size trucks. Have you towed much with your Ridgeline? Thoughts about towing a small travel trailer 6,000 to 8,000 miles per year? Thanks.

I haven't had the opportunity to tow anything with my Ridgeline. But I've read a lot of testimonials online the Ridgeline feels mostly the same with a mild hit in gas mileage with up to 3,000 pounds. Owners say when you get closer to the limit the truck performs well, but the gas milage drops off noticeably as the engine holds onto lower gears longer and if your trailer is equipped with brakes a brake controller is definitely needed. I have a 2017 Ridgeline, I pull a 19-foot GeoPro camper. With all of our stuff in it it probably weighs around 4,000 lbs. We do fine on short trips a couple hundred miles from home. I live in Iowa. If you're running down a two-lane highway at 55 or 60 everything is great. When you get on the interstate if you try to keep up with traffic around 70 mph. You can feel the truck struggling to keep up. I eventually bought an older Tahoe for a trip to Yellowstone. It would have been too much for the Ridgeline. I just pulled a 2000 lb trailer 100 miles with an additional thousand pound payload in my Ridgeline and had absolutely no issues on the interstate. Smooth as glass.

The dual horns are louder, deeper tone and really get people's attention.

Before I bought my 2019 Ridgeline RTL-T I reviewed these the trucks in it's class, GMC, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan. The Honda beat them all! I agree, the infotainment system sucks! I did the door checkers and a trailer wiring harness from Curt that was about $56.00 compared to over $200.00 from Honda. There is a hack for that ridiculous stop/start system on You Tube. My one real complaint is that in hot weather, 90 degrees or more, stop and go traffic, the transmission (6 speed) can't seem to figure out what gear it should be in. So I guess a transmission cooler is in my future. Oh yeah, I wish Honda would stop putting sun roofs in their cars, totally useless hole in the roof!

How hard was it to install the horn upgrade?!?! I have a 2017 and the horn drives me nuts!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

Yea, the factory horn is pathetic! The most difficult thing about upgrading the horn is getting to it, it's located on the driver's side, next to the radiator. If you buy the dual horn harness I linked to in the description then the install is very easy. Just unplug the factory horn, plug the double horn harness onto the wire that used to connect to the factory horn, mount your aftermarket horns within reach of the double horn harness and plug them in. Depending on what aftermarket horns you buy, you may need to make a wire to ground the aftermarket horns. It's very straight forward and makes a huge difference!

Thanks for the great review Bob. How do you feel about parking the big truck in lots and maneuvering in tighter spaces? I'm trying to decide between a crossover and a Ridgeline, and my biggest concern is that the Ridgeline is so big.

Way back one of my first vehicles was a Ford F100 truck, it was tough to park with only a small mirror on the driver's door and no backup camera. After that, all my vehicles were small sedans with manual transmissions. My last car was an Audi A4 and I traded it for my 2012 Ridgeline. Although the Ridgeline was a bit bigger, having a backup camera was a game changer for me and more than made up for the larger vehicle. I've been driving a Ridgeline for over 10-years now and I've never had any difficulty maneuvering or parking it. Sometimes I find a parking space where the other cars are close to the lines and I just move on, there's always a better spot and a little walking never hurt.

There’s zero issues with my’08 parking. I installed a wireless backup camera wired to the positive and ground wires of the backup lights. It’s worked perfectly, and the camera is actually wider than the camera screen in current Ridgeline’s. So I couldn’t be happier. The other reason to own an older Ridgeline is that the cost was cheap enough that I own the title. No car payments is a positive for me personally.

Indeed it a nice truck. I owned a 2017 HR love how it drive. After 2 years I sold it and now I am driving a Toyota Tacoma. Man! Both really have it owned personality. Tacoma really fun to drive but RL more comfortable. I'm surely missed the dual action tailgate on RL. Oh well, too bad I can't have both at the same time. Lol. Good thing is Tacoma have tons of mods vs RL which I like to do mods. RL basically you have to stuck with stock or very limited mods. Btw, great reviews

You have good taste in vehicles. I hope your experience with the Toyota dealership was better than mine. My first two vehicles were a Ford F100 and a Chevy LUV, they both had issues. My next vehicle was a '77 Celica Liftback GT,. I really liked that car so we got an '80 Corolla wagon when my wife needed a new car. I sold the Celica and bought an '84 Camry LE. We loved our Toyotas and we tried to buy another Corolla in 1993, but the local dealership really screwed us over. They lowballed us on trading in the '84 Camry so we decided to sell it ourselves. We told the salesman what options we wanted on the Corolla and gave him three colors to choose from. He said the exact model we wanted was on another dealers lot and all he needed to guarantee us the car was a $500 deposit. We gave him a check and he said we could pick up the car in two days. I sold our '84 Camry for full asking price the day after we signed the paperwork to get the new Corolla. The dealership cashed our check and then ghosted us, they wouldn't return our calls and the salesman and sales manager were never 'available' when we went to the dealership in person. We finally cornered the salesman on the showroom floor a week after they cashed our check and he said the Corolla they promised us never existed and we would have to renegotiate to get a 1994 model in another week when they were available. After arguing with the salesman and sales manager for an hour we finally got them to cut us a check reimbursing us for our $500 deposit. I called the closest Honda dealer as soon as I got home and the salesman said he had several 1993 10th Anniversary Edition Honda Accords on the lot he would sell for the same price we were going to pay for the phantom Corolla. We drove straight to the Honda dealer. 10-Anniversary Editions came in Green, White or Black. We picked a white one and we were driving our freshly washed Accord with a full tank of gas home in less than an hour. The Accord was larger, more powerful and had many more features than the Corolla. We kept that Accord for 8 years and it was trouble free. We have purchased many new cars since that day including a Nissan, a Volvo, two Audis and three Hondas. We did venture into a Lexus dealership in 2006 to look at an IS350, the salesman asked if we could afford the car or if we were just looking. I bought our first Audi that day. If I wanted to go off roading, I'd definitely consider a Tacoma, they are very capable off-road and even though I hate our Toyota dealership with a burning passion, I have to admit Toyota vehicles are very dependable. After owning two Audi A4 modified manual transmission turbo quattros I didn't want a traditional truck so I'm glad that the Ridgeline fits my needs perfectly.

First thanks for sharing 👍. Love your idea of the LED lights for the trunk lid. Are you able to share what lights you used and the installation process. I’m on my second 2nd Gen. My first was a 2017 RTL-T, it had 20K miles when a distracted driver ran a stop 🛑 sign and totaled my truck, all airbags deployed and kept me and my wife safe with just seatbelt tensioning bruises, pretty tuff truck. I now own a new 2022 RTL. Managed to salvage from my 17, the running boards, mud flaps and Retrax tonneau cover. I’ve installed: LED lights inside and out - Disabled the VCM by using the VCMTunerII product (no more vibration feel when it would go into VCM running on 3 cylinders - I like all 6 cylinders running all the time) - Oil Catch Can - 3M Crystalline window film for the windshield and sunroof (adds great UV protection and dissipates our S. Florida heat) Thanks again 👍🇺🇸

Love the Ridgeline overall. But…. Hate that the key fob will open all windows and the sunroof if two buttons are pressed simultaneously. If you have the keys in your pants pocket this will happen sooner or later. Mine opened during two different rainstorms. This cannot be disabled by the option menu. I consider this a design defect. So I don’t keep the key fob in my pocket anymore.

The trunk lights how did you install those? I just bought a 2022 the cupholders havent changed.

A few years ago the passenger side LED daytime driving strip on our Honda Accord quit working. At the time a new LED headlight from Honda was well over $1,200. Fortunately for us it was a known issue and Honda had issued a TSB on the headlights and we got it replaced for free even though the car was out of warranty. I've never purchased an extended warranty before, but given how complicated cars are these days and how expensive car parts are these days I was open to buying an extended warranty if the price was right. I had already called Saccucci Honda in Rhode Island and got their price for an extended warranty before I bought my truck from the dealer in Memphis. The Memphis dealer started out at over $2,600 for the 8-year/100,000-mile warranty and I declined. After a little back and forth I got them down to under $2,000. So far I have not needed the extended warranty, but I plan to keep the truck at least another 2-years so I like having the peace of mind that I won't have any expensive surprises. don't get me wrong. I have a Ridgeline G1 but Volvo certainly have more inside usable space than a Ridgeline.

Have you done anything to address the VCM issue? I.E. installed the VCM Turner? Any issues concerning this issue? You have really good videos about the ridgeline...others too!

@@Koolbob2 Hi Bob, it's Vehicle Cylinder Management, Honda's term for cylinder de-activation. From what I've found through watching KZread videos on the subject is that the engine shuts down the rear bank (3) cylinders, mainly for fuel economy I'm sure, but as with any engine that shuts down cylinders this causes issues long-term problems with vales, pistons and/or rings, etc. I suspect Honda does this to comply with emission regulations and touting overall fuel economy. If your cruising down the interstate and the ECO light comes on, then most likely half the cylinders have been shut-off...this can also cause vibrations. I hope yours never has this issue.

@@Steve-yl1yg This is my second Ridgeline and we have an Accord with the 'Earth Dreams' engine, and we had two Accords back in the '90s. We've never had any problems with any of the engines. My first Honda was a 1990 Accord EX 5-speed and I had to replace the electric antenna and battery on it in 8-years of ownership. I had to replace a climate control knob and the battery on the wife's 1993 Accord 10th Anniversary Edition which we had for 8-years. Our current Accord Touring is 6-years old and the only problem we had with it was the LED daytime running light on one of the headlights quit working and Honda replaced it for free even though we were a year out of the warranty period. My first Ridgeline, 2012 RTLE Navi had a small oil leak that was taken care of under warranty and the only other things I replaced out of pocket were tires and a battery. So far my new Ridgeline has been back to the dealer for a couple of recalls, but no service was needed. A lot of folks on the internet think they know more about cars than the people who designed them. These are the ones installing VCM defeat devices, oil catch cans, aftermarket intakes, exhaust systems, lowering springs, lift kits, off road lights, LED under vehicle lights, etc. You do you. I check my tire pressure monthly, check the spare tire pressure every few months, check the oil level and other fluids at every fill up and perform the recommended maintenance at the recommended intervals. I also hand wash our vehicles and wax them when needed. I haven't had any problems with our Hondas and I get top dollar for my vehicles when I sell/trade them.

@jamesterrill Yes, the horn on the 2018 Ridgeline is really wimpy. Read in the description below this video and I have links to the horns I replaced my OEM horn with and the custom wiring harness that makes installing dual aftermarket horns quick and easy. I haven't changed any of my interior lights, so unfortunately I can't help you with accessing the bulbs. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. This is my first direct injection Honda, but not the first direct injection car I've owned. I had an Audi 2.0t, manual transmission, quattro and they have a reputation for carbon buildup, as well as the camshaft fuel pump lobe wearing down prematurely. that car was blast to drive, but after a few recalls, a few repairs and having the car towed to the dealership twice when it left me stranded I decided to get something more practical and reliable. So far I have not any out of warranty repairs on the Ridgeline and I am not aware of any carbon buildup.

I'm very curious to see what Honda will do with the next Ridgeline. It used to be that you could count on Honda refreshing vehicles every 4-years, but they have let some models go longer without a refresh, especially the Ridgeline. I think that's because the Ridgeline is a low production vehicle compared to the other Honda models. The first generation Ridgeline received bumper and grill updates, the transmission ratios were changed for better milage and a few tweaks were made to the engine, but nothing major changed during the Gen. 1 production run. Personally I'd love to see the next Ridgeline as a plug-in hybrid. There's room under the truck for batteries, especially if the drivetrain is set up as a FWD gas engine with an electric motor on the rear axle which would let the designers punt the driveshaft and put the battery pack under the flat cabin floor. With a smaller gas tank the trunk could be even larger. At this point no one knows what Honda has in mind for the Ridgeline beyond 2023.

@@portlandreviewer2143 Driving habits are the #1 way to improve fuel economy. My wife drives a 2016 Accord and I drive the 2018 Ridgeline, there are some very subtle differences in the intake and exhaust systems, but they have the same 3.5L V6 engine and both have a 6 speed automatic transmission. Over the last 1,500 miles (800mile trip on interstate and the rest around down) I've averaged just over 22mpg on the Ridgeline. My wife gets about the same milage in her Accord even though the Accord is lighter and much more aerodynamic. I tend to accelerate a little more gradually and I anticipate stops and coast much further whereas her style is to drive up until the moment she applies her brakes to come to a stop. Weather also affects mileage, engines run richer (use more gas) when they are cold. Letting your run to warm up for a few minutes before you drive is a milage killer since you are burn gas and don't accumulate any miles. Your milage should improve after you get about 1,000-1,500 miles on the engine and the rings loosen up a little. Lastly, the 'Econ' button does help, I've heard that it remaps interaction between the accelerator peddle and the throttle body to make it easier to modulate the engine speed, cycles the AC off more often and makes the cylinder deactivation kick in sooner.

I like watching all you guys stories on the vehicle and i like you guys that tow a trailer to get some kind of knowledge about the towing and gas mileage..iam retired and i agree with you guys that own one,nice riding,great 3.5 v6 non turbo and great trunk and can put a sheet of plywood down flat on the bed floor!! My only complaint is the small gas tank. When pulling my camper my range drops to around 150 miles or slightly more. I therefore need to carry a 5 gallon "rescue tank". I would greatly prefer not needing to do that.

I use the bed of my truck all the time, but I've only pulled a few small trailers around town, so I don't have any real experience with towing heavy loads over long distances. Others have mentioned the milage dropping as low as 16mpg when towing near the 5k limit, so more frequent fillips are inevitable. I'm guessing that the Honda engineers either could not find the room for a larger gas tank or decided so few owners would need a larger tank that it wasn't worth the higher cost. I'm glad to hear you have a workaround with the 5 gallon rescue tank. As with any vehicle, the faster you go the lower your gas milage due to aerodynamic resistance. I see a noticeable different in my gas milage between 65mph and 75mph. How fast are you towing?

@Koolbob2 I pull an 18bh Shasta which admittedly is a brick. I am under limits as prescribed by Honda and am very careful about balancing my load in the trailer. I find the sweet spot for towing fuel milage between 60 and 65 mph. The only thing I worry about is getting caught between stations out west or in the U.P. My Ridgeline handles the trailer well and rides comfortably under load.

Thnx @@Koolbob2 I do exactly that. I rotate that gas out regularly. I only carry that extra when I am in an area that I don't know well. Here in the central Midwest i don't carry extra. I'm not a big fan of having a gas can in the bed of the truck. Even though it is well secured.

Cup holders are easy fix, you have to buy a cup holder extender

Yes both were new. I got $20k trade in for my 2012 and about $4k off sticker when I got my 2018. Next one will be expensive, that's why I'm planning to keep this one for another 4 years.

Today the market is a lot different and a lot more folks have realized how awesome the Ridgeline is. I'm hoping the market will settle down in a couple of years when I'll be ready for Ridgeline #3.

You might consider the Costco auto purchase program. We bought our 2018 Odyssey Elite and 2019 Ridgeline RTL-T using that service. Purchases were in 2 different states and dealerships. We were treated well at the dealerships and got a bit of a discount off the sticker. Just a thought.

I always avoid the first year production of a new model just incase there are problem areas. So I'd avoid the 2017. There was a pretty big styling change to the front end in 2021 and the 6-speed transmission was swapped for a 9-speed in 2020 but the powertrain is essentially the same for all second generation. If it were me, I'd go for the newest truck I could afford.

You should use your truck to rent a heavy duty power washer and clean your driveway.

Yea, I thought about it many times. But our driveway is about 220ft long and most of it is heavily shaded by oaks and hickory trees. I doubt it would stay clean looking for a year. #lazy

You didn't talk about the timing belt because you are getting rid of it before the belt and water pump replacement are due.

@@Koolbob2 Unlike normal trucks. Honda decided to use the timing belt over the traditional timing chain. The timing belt requires scheduled replacement every 60k to 80k miles. Just not durable like the chain. Timing chain normally last the life of the motor or the truck. Which ever goes first. Replacing timing belt and water pump cost around 2000 dollars plus tax. You seem like a diy person. You can replace them yourself and and save a 1000 every 60k miles.

@@Koolbob2 Yes I am People need to know the big cons of the Ridgeline. You as supposedly aggressive driver. You have to change out the belt more frequently. Honda will fix this once they go to the 4 cylinder turbo.

vn video. question. i was looking at the new one's way too much for me. xd i did come across a 2018 for 25k but has 64k miles on it, i hear the 17 and 18 had transmission issues and some failed before 100k miles any issues with yours. I'm going to ask the dealership that is selling it if they have done the timing belt and water pump service, funny how the water pump does not last long on honda's. i know the engines should last 200k miles but if the trans has issues on that year i might have to pass. thank you for your time.

I plan to buy another Ridgeline in a few years and I'm hoping the supply chain issues will be resolved by then so I can get a good bit off sticker. It's been a while since I purchased a used vehicle, but when I did I always looked for low milage cars with service records, I also had the vehicle checked out my my mechanic. Every vehicle ever built has some weak points that need to be considered by purchasing used. You are on the right track researching trouble points on the Ridgeline. Honda overestimated how long the transmission fluid would hold up in the 6-speed transmission when they rolled out the 2017s so the Maintenance Minder does not alert the owner to change the transmission fluid until about 40k miles. As the fluid deteriorates the shifting becomes less smooth and there can be 'juddering'. Honda released a pair of TSBs on the issue in 2018 static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/SB-10108363-9340.pdf The TSB calls for the dealer to drain and refill the transmission three times and update the software on the truck so the Maintenance Minder will request transmission fluid changes at closer intervals. Fortunately, only the fluid breaks down and the transmission is not harmed unless the owner ignores the slippage and doesn't take the truck to a qualified mechanic of dealership to to investigate the judder. If ignored, driving any vehicle for many thousands of miles with worn out fluid can eventually cause damage to the transmission. Just a few weeks ago at about 36k I started feeling like there was a tiny bit of slippage in the transmission at about 25mph, under very light acceleration on slight inclines. The tach needle would flutter, but the speed would stay the same. I have an extended warranty with Honda, but the nearest dealership is 75 miles away and I don't mind doing my own maintenance so I did a simple drain and refill on the transmission and the judder is gone and the truck shifts nice and smooth like when it was new. I made a KZread video on how to change the transmission fluid, it's really easy. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmSFqM-mc8SslpM.html If I found a used car that I wanted to buy I would ask to see the maintenance records and make arrangements to take it to a dealership and see if there are any outstanding recalls or TSBs on the vehicle. Once I bought the vehicle I would take it to my mechanic and have all fluids replaced, or do the work myself, unless I had service records in hand proving the fluids were recently changed.

What are your feelings about running boards for the Ridgeline?

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I think running boards are the modern equivalent of side pipes. On some vehicles the right running boards look cool, on other vehicles they look out of place. I haven't seen any running boards that get me that excited and make me want to put them on my truck, but it's a very personal decision. the Ridgeline already has threaded holes in place, so adding running boards is a simple task.

Against it. (2006 ridgeline owner for 12 years, current owner of 2023 RTL). The running boards I had on my 2006 were pipe boards, vs flat. flat running boards look ridiculous and are too close to the ground. I opted to not have running boards on my 2023 and am so much happier.

What do you average for MPG?

Like every other vehicle I’ve owned, the mileage displayed is higher than what I get when I calculate the mileage. The Ridgeline is off by about 1-MPG. My calculated average 18 around town and on local highways (65mph). Last week I took a 350-mile trip on the interstate (70-78mph), drove around town for three days and then drove back home. I got almost 27mpg, the best ever. At 30,000 miles the engine is fully broken in, uses no oil between oil changes and I’m getting the best mileage ever. :)

@@tomswoverland Great mileage! My 2018 has the 6-speed transmission and I believe yours has the 9-speed which may account for the slightly higher mileage.

I have a 22 Ridgeline and get 26 to 28 around town and highway 30 to 31 mpg

I had an '07 RTL and rue the day I traded it in on a 2013 Crosstour. Oh well. I got the 2019 Passport Elite but HATED the push-button transmission 'shifter'. I'm trying to find a 2019 Ridgeline Black or RTL-E, which was the last year BEFORE they "upgraded" the Ridgeline to the push-buttons. What I really want is a CANADIAN 2019 Ridgeline TOURING model - it has all the extra goodies that come with the Passport / Pilot Elite models. What the hell, Honda? Where is OUR Ridgeline Touring, eh?

Yea, the Canadian Ridgelines get so many features on their Touring model that aren't available on ANY version of the Ridgeline here in the US! As far as I know, ALL Ridgelines are made in Lincoln Alabama, so features like ventilated seats, dual folding mirrors, etc. are being put o Ridgelines in Alabama, but only available to purchase by Canadians! I've been told that Honda thinks US buyers are so focused on comparing Ridgelines to Tacomas and Colorados that the few $ increase in price to offer all the Canadian features on US Ridgelines would hurt Ridgeline sales. Honda offers several models as Touring Edition in the US, we have a 2016 Accord Touring and love it. Why won't Honda offer a Touring model above the Black Edition in the US. I'd buy one!

I really like the ridgeline. Left my local honda dealership wanting the 2023 ridgline black edition. The white on black scheme is great and the new rims are stylish. They want 47k for it. But offered me MSRP on my 2021 honda civic... i realize my trade in value will never get better than this. But that price is just too high

@@chiefman8316 yeah, I have. The ford f-150 and ram 1500 is similarly priced in my area. I see pro's and con's with all 3. But after hurricane Ian and all the flooding in my area, I kind of think a truck now is a wise investment regardless of which one I choose

@Jimmy Mac I feel like a full size truck similarly optioned is a 50-70k truck. A full size truck that is mid to high 40s is borderline poverty spec.

Given how similarly equipped trucks cost from other manufacturers $47k for a Black Edition is a good price.
