    I have a 2003 Honda recon 250. I replaced the cylanoid. It still wouldn't start, I jumped it with another bike it started but didn't want to go in gear, I pushed it forward, finally went into 1st but now the light is flashing & it will not go into any gears/ reverse. It won't start if in gear. Had to use manual shift wrench to get it out of 1st. so was wondering if it could be the electric shift or the angle shift sensor? Or maybe something else?

    Really like your videos, I just bought a 2012 250 recon that’s locked up. Was told that it had been run low of oil. I removed the head and cylinder and to my surprise the rings and cylinder look good and came off very easy. The rod seems to be a little tight but I have been able rotate the crank after working it back and forth . My question is what would be the most likely problem causing it to lock up?

    You would probably mess up the seal behind it if you tried heating it and with it being so long enough heat may not reach the thread to do and good. I have never seen one do that before. It sounds like maybe one of the cogs on fourth gear has broken not letting it lock up and pull in fourth. It sounds like an internal issues and would have to have the crankcase split to be repaired.

    Four wheeler Doctor the one to the cylinder housing where it secures the cylinder to on the engine there’s 2 10 mm studs One broke off what’s your email so I can send you a picture of it . The acorn nuts didn’t break off The little one that secures the cylinder down did. It’s called a flange Bolt www.partzilla.com/product/honda/95701-06070-00?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgv2Q2Oet7AIVMvC1Ch1VQgo4EAQYFiABEgIhtfD_BwE

    @@skylerhenry8455 that is not a critical bolt since the acorn nuts hold the head and cylinder on. You can fill the hole with rtv to seal it off and it will be fine. I have worked on ones like this before that were broken and have never had problems with the 10 mm head bolts missing.

    Yes the only difference is the shift motor and gears in the front cover. The foot shift model doesn't have them.

    @@FourwheelerDoctor so I have another ? Sir my 98 250cc recon will turn over so far then stops with the electric start not when I turn the crank bolt by hand it will free up but will not complete a rotation all the time sometimes it will sometimes it wont I took top end off it an there is no play in the piston up or down or the crank like u explained in one of ur vids. Now on the cylinder walls there is some groves in the cylinder walls could that be causing the engine not to turn over when head and cylinder are off I can turn engine over by hand with no problem at all its when the top end is on that it does not want to turn over. Could the top end be my problem

  • @FourwheelerDoctor

    @FourwheelerDoctor

    @@justsendit8334 normally grooves in the cylinder wall will not keep the Piston from moving up and down. But if it turns freely when you have the cylinder off, it about has to be something in the top end. Can't say I have ever seen one do that before. Sometimes the Piston hitting the valve will cause it to stop in one spot so check your piston in your valves for any contact
