I finally went to see the Isle of Man TT this summer with my dad. While everyone was riding CBR1000 RR-Rs, S1000 RRs and R1s, this rider called Michael Rutter was racing on a RC213V-S and the sound was just deafening compared to all other bikes. When he flied by at nearly 200 mph on the public streets, even with your eyes closed you could absolutely tell who it was. It really added to the whole experience.

not one of... THE best. only one who has always been the most reliable, and if not the fastest, at least usually competetive. still being innovative. there have been faster bikes, but all around, they're it. i mean, the goldwing is the standard for touring. the cb750 gave birth to sport bikes, vfr 750 best street bike ever. rc51, the blackbird, on and on. and those are just street bikes. XR400, XRR, 250R, how many people's first ride was on a honda? and they KEPT riding, because every time it just works instead of ride once, then spend weeks or longer wrenching. mine was our little honda 70 fourtrax when i was 2. i love kawis and ducatis, and i can appreciate other bikes but those are basically the only others i'd buy. and even then, pretty much only in addition to my hondas though. and they have something for everybody. every niche, every rider level. or they did, at least. still, probably more than any other single manufacturer. just the fact that when they finally built a side by side, they didn't just stick with the status que, and go with a stupid cvt belt. which is just one of the many reasons i hate side by sides. but if i had 30k just laying around, i'd maybe get one. but i'd probably just build a rail buggy. but still... that's the market, people don't buy quads anymore, they like the false sense of security of a little 1 inch tubing roll cage... so honda builds what sells, but even then, the give it a dct. you can get a honda wave runner, and tow it with a goldwing easily, or a honda automobile. if you choose, you can have a honda for any and every occasion, other than heavier hauling... and they're all reliable. then, use your honda generator, clean them all with your honda pressure washer. and again, they all just work, basically always. doesn't matter how fast you are, to finish first, you must first finish. i only wish they'd bring back some of the older legends.

My Guy loves his CBR’s/ Honda’s 💪🏽
Still riding the VFR800FI 2000, that bike is the same, but better. Yeah different times, but just as much fun. 115HP and so smooth. Honda did use this VFR before for racing. The 750 version won. Strip the electronics of modern GP-bikes and they all crash. Ride the VFR750/800 and you smile all day long. In Germany, 250 at the clock, all day long, you do not see many bikers keep up.
Just to illuminate something you mentioned- The GP engines use pneumatic valve "springs", which would be too impractical and expensive for a street bike. The -S uses more familiar metal valve springs, which are probably some very nice, expensive hi-test Voodoo alloy items. I'm an American, so if I could afford one, I'd get the gelded version. I'd still buy it. Honda is being actually quite sensible, and I'm sure no insult is intended by halving the BHP. You see, Les États-Unis is a rarity among the many nations on our little planet. It does not employ a stepped Motorcycle licensing sytem, where you are limited in engine capacity at first to, say, 250cc. If you do fine with that, next you are allowed 400cc, then 600...you see what I'm getting at? Someone with riding experience and skill at zero can theoretically own a RC213V-S, Desmosedici RR, etc. Or even any modern 600cc I-4 sport bike, for that matter. In practice, there are, thank God, some barriers to beginners getting a hold of something possibly lethal to them, but it happens. Honda knows this, and are being very wise and responsible, Japan has Very Strict tiered motorcycle licensing, and they don't hurry things. An interesting result is that 400cc bikes are a pretty vital little class there, and there have been some cool bikes, like Honda's very own NC-45, with a tiny 400cc V4 (with geared cam drive), and🐣 was basically an RC-45 that been hit with the Shrink-O Ray. But I'm careening off the subject a bit. The RC213V-S is as awesome as it is possible for a Motorcycle to be. I hope they get ridden by people with the skills and experience to engage the machine confidently. I hope they get ridden. There's nothing worse for s vehice of any kind that was made to be in motion than for it to become immobile. It would be sad if in the future there's all these Honda RC213V-Ss that run like sh*t because they just sat One more thing, then that's it, I promise. I totally♥️the classic Honda Racing Corporation Red, Blue and White colours. Edit: As someone kindly pointed out, the 400cc V4 bike is NC35, not NC45. My apologies.

In my opinion, it's also important to mention the role MotoGP played in Honda's decision to make the RC213V-S. At the time Honda conceived the bike, MotoGP was experimenting with the CRT (claiming rule team) and Open Class concepts. The privateers of that era were using poorly tuned Superbike engines, and spending considerable money to prototype a chassis for their machines. Honda examined the situation for private teams, and determined that HRC could sell the privateer teams a better bike at lower cost than they could build themselves. The RC213V-S is the real deal because it was meant to compete in MotoGP -- it's basically a modern NSR500V. Unfortunately, the V-S never raced for a variety of reasons, mainly because Ducati threw a spanner in the works by declaring themselves as an Open Class team, which forced the GPC to renegotiate the class concepts to ensure factory teams did not try to race as Open Class teams. The negotiations ultimately killed the Open Class, and re-created the satellite bike system we see today. The death of the Open Class was a great shame for MotoGP, and it deprived fans of seeing the RC213V-S circulate a race track in anger.

Wow very interesting. I didn’t know that - thanks for sharing!
@cheeseburger3209

This is not correct. Ducati ran as an open class team for several years until they lost their concessions after taking several podium places. Further the RC213V-S had little to do with actual moto gp competition and was never built for that. You are confusing this with the RC213RS which did compete in moto gp for a few years and in one instance Nicky Hayden rode one for a season. Don't know how you managed it, but your grasp on the history of the sport seems very confused, and a quick search online would clear it up.

@@cheeseburger3209 Dorna designed the Open Class to lure factories away from the MSMA's 1000cc formula. However, the MSMA were not interested; therefore, the Open Class was going to operate, in their minds, as a place for private teams without the specter of claiming rules. In other words, the MSMA thought the Open Class would replace CRT. The MSMA remained united until Ducati broke ranks in March of 2014, and announced they would run definitely compete as an open class team. That was the end of the Open Class as the MSMA intended to use it. It became a weird melange of superbikes and retro-fitted GP bikes with spring valves. The usefulness of a bike for racing, is its ability to generate revenue for the team. When Ducati entered the Open Class, and it was unclear what Suzuki and Aprilia would do the following season, the RC213V-S no longer had a place. Yes, for two years Ducati technically ran as an Open Class team, until Michelin and Dorna ended the 3-tiered-circus, but that has little to do with the shifting competitive landscape and the political maneuvering within the MSMA to keep the other factories out of the Open Class when Ducati broke ranks. Ultimately, the MSMA succeeded in steering Suzuki and Aprilia towards "factory" team designation, but in the end, the GPC made a grand compromise and somehow unified the entire mess of classes under new factory rules with satellite bikes. That was the end of production race bikes in MotoGP, and it's a shame, imo.
A mixture of technology and art.

The replacement parts are expensive, not bc they are rare, but bc the person spending $185k, will defintely spend $15k for the power upgrade, and therefore find themselves needing expensive replacement parts when it's chucked on public roads. For those buying it for the track-only...good for you. For those who thought they'd use this on public roads...good luck! I drooled all over the RC211v at Bike Week, but the 213 doesn't strike that magic spot for me in the way it looks.
This is a “Dream Ride” I would buy, and ride daily…..YOLO and $$$ was not a issue; I’d buy 2 & yes it’s a lot of money, but HyperCars are 1M$+ and are sold out mostly……Plus it’s a Honda so drive it hard, put away wet and it will start every time…..worth every penny and will hold its value too. Even the ‘21 RR-R is a great bike for 1/4 price of a V4 RC213VS (street legal 1 of 200) MotoGP clone). I’m just happy that Honda even decided to make/sell a GP to the public. Actually got a account specifically for this 100K$ machine ;)

At $140,000+ per unit, without the race kit (not available in the U.S.) it's not exactly for the average motorcyclist. And the U.S. version was limited to 100hp, so it was basically a six figure supersport. The owner of the shop I used to work at had a desmosidici in his office, and Bluewing Honda have an RC213VS in their showroom/museum in NewZealand. I spent a bit of time there doing a Honda Sales academy course.
I remember when this was announced and unveiled, I was so excited. I thought this would be the next CBR1000 since Yamaha based the new R1 off their GP bike. I was poised and ready. Then the actual details and price emerged and Honda instead gave us a mediocre answer to the post '15 liter bikes with their new fireblade. If this machine came out as a normal bike, same look, V4 engine, the split exhaust, the solid swingarm, I'd change my blood overnight to Honda. I buy based off visual appeal and this is the only one that looks better to me than the pre '15 BMW. Only bike I even envy a little, except that price tag.
Please Honda - let as much of this tech trickle down to the next VFR. I'm ok if it's not MotoGP sharp but the HRC legacy of the VFR needs this DNA.

Clearly, the only option would be to install the European performance upgrade kit, whether it's legal or not in the USA. How the hell would anyone know anyways? Is a cop going to pull you over and be like, "Ah yes, the RC213V. And I can see you've figured out some way to install the European version performance upgrade package. You're under arrest."
It's RC Twenty One ThreeV-S -- Twenty one for 21st century and 3 because it's the 3rd iteration of the 4 stroke Motogp bike.
@3:05 - Honda didn't choose a V-5 layout "to dial in the firing order", but rather to take advantage of the rules. Part of the original rules package for MotoGP was different minimum weight limits for different numbers of cylinders; V-2s got the lowest minimum weight, while V-6 engines would get the highest minimum weight (the rules specified anywhere from 2 to 6 cylinders). Honda would have built a V-6 if the weight penalty part of the rules didn't exist..., but they built a V-5 because they thought that was the best compromise between minimum weight and maximum revs.
Although a Ducati fan, these Honda's are to be admired...Parts cost are absurd as they make Ferrari parts seem like a bargain.
Awesome Honda, can we get one that's trimmed down, factory-made and mass produced so it isn't some exclusive thing just for professionals and the uber-rich? It might also make it easier/cheaper to maintain your motoGP bikes.
Hmmm leaving out the original 1984 Honda V65 Sabre... Honda's first V4 bike Fastest bike on the planet in 1984
Correct me if i am wrong, but the REASON this bike is manufactured for the public is due to MOTOGP rules "All Grand Prix riders are allowed to ride bikes on track, as long as they are standard production bikes, with a few changes allowed to make them fit for the track." which is why they built this bike and potentially lost money in the public market.
Casey Stoner wasn't too happy about it :D
Your understanding of the naming for “RC” is a bit flawed. The name RC51 wasn’t used in EU and Asia. Other RC’s like the RC30 and RC45 have names following their chassis code, R meaning 601-799cc and C meaning On-Road. The chassis code on the RC51 is actually SC45 (S meaning 800cc+). The old RC chassis back in the 50’s and 60’s did follow that name convention, but the 30/45 and subsequently the 51 were named for a call back to that. The 51… was a unique one that really only the USA wanted to use. Look at the. in of some pretty mundane bikes and you’ll find “RC” chassis codes as well, including the lauded race bike the Honda Shadow.
MotoGP bikes are just insane. 800cc bike making similar power over a decade ago what a V4R makes now. Interestingly brand new cbr1000rr-r makes same power what the rc213v-s makes. I know it's much more than just the horsepower but it's just cool that you can get such bikes without spending 6 figures. But of course the rc213v-s is way lighter, has much more precise technology (Can bring wheelie down gradually, not slamming it) etc.

Both the CBR-1000RR-R SP2 and RC213V-S have spring valves. That's the limiting factor for both bikes.. If the RC213V-S had a pneumatic valvetrain like the GP bike, it would rev higher and make more power than the CBR.

It made 159HP here in Europe at a curb weight of 188KG, and with the racekit it went up to 215HP and would weigh 10KG less.

@@mylexicon2 That's not why it doesn't make more HP (101).... It's due to emission regulations in the US.... In Europe it makes 159HP (or with race kit 215HP) A standard CBR-1000RR-R SP2 makes 217HP at curb weight of 201KG here in Europe... It's the weight of the pistons and rods what limits the RPMs, way more than the valve train.. BTW: A 1994 CBR250RR MC22 has its redline at 19k RPM.....

@@R2_D356 more horsepower and 10 kg less? amazing!! the cost? 10/12 thousand euros the cost? obviously without suspension, only the horsepower upgrade and the weight cut
Absolutely stunning machine, and about 100 times cooler than a modern Ducati GP-based bike, but 1/3rd less revs and half the power? That's one fuck of a compromise.

HRC When price is no factor. We make the best.
I like to pronounce it 21 3V but great vid. :)
Gone is the Era of sexy bikes
Honda CBR India market very good performance and good looking motor bike
would this bike run circles around the Ducati V4S?
I don't understand the "limited to 101 horsepower" in the US? There are many bikes putting out more than150 horsepower and several going over 200 horsepower here in the US. Can someone explain this to me?
If anyone's wondering why this is so expensive for something not all that different from a $18k liter street bike, appearance-wise; this is why: With an F1 car, it's easy to tell it's a prototype racer, not a production sportscar like a Corvette. All MotoGP bikes are prototype racers, not production superbikes like a Yamaha R1 or GSXR1000R, the same as F1 cars. But sportbikes, as it happens, all have the same general appearance, hence it's not intuitive as to why the RC213 is so expensive. It's a ultra-high precision prototype racer, incomparable to a production superbike.
The problem with street legal race bikes is that they ALWAYS are a compromise - to be street legal. Exhaust (Noise), brakes, tires, indicators, rear view and so on. If I had $ 184k for a bike to go on track AND on the street, I'd buy two bikes: one for the track and one for the street. I'm very open what street legal bike I'd buy, probably one that helps me NOT to loose my driving license; maybe a vintage BMW R25 or so. But I'm very certain what "my" track bike would be: a Suter MMX500! Designed by former GP pilot Eskil Suter and made in Switzerland, this $130k rocket weighs 127kilos and pushes almost 200HP from a 670cc two stroke (!!) V4.
I wish someone would do this again, but make it actually affordable. Yes, I know the panigal and m1000rr exist. But this is in a different league.
Does it have the unpredictable handling behavior like the RC213V of Marquez, Mir, Rins and Nakagami?

Completely different bikes now.
In my country you had to pay 220k usd for this baby. One of a kind
You mentioned the legendary rc45 😂 or early Fireblabe nothing legendary about them, the legends are the Rc30 and the VFR 750 which you did not name 😮
Reminds of Ducati Desmosedici RR
Hi, the Honda is definitely a fantastic motorcycle. But i think the Ducati Panigale V4R is near a Moto GP bike.
Not a Honda fan at all but this RC is SICK!
When does the video come about the Ducati desmo’s😏
No mention of the rc30 in the short list? damn, harsh.

Haha you know I love the RC30.
They should make an inline 6 engine that revs to 26k. I don't care how they do it, but I want it. Place it lengthwise. IDC just get it done.
There’s literally two for sale near me lol, padgetts Honda centre google it😂

Padgetts are the official agency/dealer for RC213V-S sales wordwide.
Good bike , but most of the other 1000’s now have same or more HP than the RR1000 even with the super expensive Honda racing kit fitted. And less than 8-9 times cheaper.
So, it's almost as good as a CBR954RR?

It has no piston slap so it’s even better than the 954. 😜
You just know at least 95% of them will NEVER see track use, much less street use. With those parts prices it's truly a garage queen only meant to increase in value then be sold.

Yes, that's true. In fact most are in storage still in the crate as they left the factory. Dealer principals I have spoken to said that theirs may come out for showroom display at a special anniversary but otherwise will rest quietly. So sad...
13:14 man, a naked version on this mon would be killer even nowadays, it looks soo cool.
The USA are always getting shafted on hp, like the new Kawasaki 400 being restricted - it’s such a shame, I’m glad I live in the UK.
