Honda Pilot 2020 infotainment system malfunction and display issue - Easy fix

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I will show you how to fix Honda Pilot infotainment display issues - random reboot or blank display.
The fix - disconnect battery from the vehicle and discharge any power stored in car's electrical system, and reconnect the battery.
This is a 2020 Honda Pilot - EXL version. The problem started with random reboot of infotainment system. And after few weeks, the center console is completely dead - no display or audio.

UPDATE 2, 9/2/2020: infotainment issue is back !. when the car hit a bump/pothole, display reboots or goes blank. left the car at dealership for a day and got it back. This time they replaced FAKRA connector housing and MOST cord as per Honda service bulletin(TSB) released on 8/4/2020(20-058). See the TSB document here - static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10178457-0001.pdf driven 100 miles and no issues so far. UPDATE 1, 7/12/2020:: infotainment issue came back. left the car at dealership for a day and got it back. Car is working fine so far(100 miles after the fix). This is what they did - rerouted optical wiring to make sure there is no stress on optical cables that leads to a connector on devices such as DVD/RES, gauge cluster, infotainment unit etc. Note: Nothing is replaced from the car. Reason: The optical wiring system used for the infotainment/RES/gauge system is not routed properly from factory - this creates stress/loose connection on optical connectors and causes device malfunction. I will update this comment if the issue comes back.

If you call the Honda 800 corporate number, you’ll get a recall recording associated with your vehicle. For my passport, I’m told the multimedia gauge control box, module is malfunctioning. Not sure why that means. However if you check Honda website for recalls, it won’t be listed. I have not brought my car in.

Two other fixes I've found are pull the radio fuse #29 in the engine compartment A fuse panel or using a USB keyboard where you plug in the phone and press Ctrl-alt-Del. Info center reboots and life is better.

I’ve had my 2020 pilot to the Honda dealer FOUR TIMES, even showed them this video and told them what was going and they claimed they fixed it and couldn’t recreate the sound. We got in the car and before we left the parking lot it started doing it. I shouldn’t mention that they claimed the 2nd time the “replaced the screen” when we know they didn’t because we had the screen “marked” to see. Got the car back and the mark was still there. hello, i am a new 2019 honda passport touring owner. i am here in canada. the touring is the top trim level. picked it up last week. 13,000 KMS on it. not sure how many miles that is. and just today - thu april 30th i get the infamous loss of radio signal and then the network communication failure and it goes dark. no pwer on it. then a few mins later it turns on by itself to the sirius xm station i was originally listening too. this happened 3 times within an hour. but the 4th time it never turned back on. stayed dark for an hour and i got home. turned the vehicle off. waited 3 mins and turned it back on. but NO screen. was dark. nothing. MANY videos on youtube also show the SPEEDOMETER goes dark as well. nothing showing your speed. THAT becomes a SAFETY issue. not a cosmetic one like the radio not working. videos show the infotainment screen turns off at the SAMETIME the speedometer screen goes dark. thats not good. im assuming all honda sending isnt working either since nothing is on the screen above the steering wheel. yes the passports have the SAME infotainment system as the pilot and odyssey's. and the samething is happening to 2019 acura rdx models as well. this is a HUGE SAFETY issue for honda. a HUGE class action lawsuit has started the the states. here in canada i dont see one yet. i need to start one because the issues are with the passports as well and it MIMCS the u.s. case. this is a SAFETY issue folks. look at these videos. would this be cool for you to drive in these situations with a 3 year old in the back seat? maybe not knowing if the honda sensing is working or not. not knowing how fast you are going.....hmmmmmm sounds like it becomes a NON street vehicle without a speedometer no??? WAKEUP HONDA !!! this is going to be a HUGE recall for you. odyssey's, pilots, passports, acuras. wow. you can run and deny but you will NOT be able to hide. HERE IS THE VIDEO LINK OF THE ACTUAL LAWFIRM TAPING IT: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iaxq18uKoNuuc84.html read the link i am attaching. a HUGE lawsuit has ALREADY started !!! im in canada so i cannot get in on it. i have a 2019 PASSPORT. its doing the SAMETHING !!! just got it last week. UPDARE 2 (Aug.17.2020) The same problem came back. It seems Honda just doesn't know what the problem really is. They tried lots of things and changed even more - and yet the issue is still here. It SUCKS! UPDATE (Aug.5.2020): Infotainment problem fixed. Called Honda Canada and got a case number. During the phone call and subsequent email communications I provided detailed and documented (pictures & videos) info on all infotainment issues I came across. Last week I had the car in the shop for 3 days, during which the dealer replaced the remote tuner, amplifier and all related wiring connectors. Under the direct guidance of a Honda engineer they've also freed up the wiring (and corrugated protective sleeve) in a few critical spots known to be too tightly fitted to the body, thus prone to pull on the connector pins. Moreover, Honda just release two critical recalls, one being Gauge Control Module Display (affecting the instrument panel) and Rear View Camera software, which were both addressed during this visit. I've been driving the car for about 5 days now and it seems they finally got it. Most importantly, under the hidden menu > "reasons for shut down" there was no entry after the first 5 days - unlike before when I'd see 10 - 15 entries a day, mostly indicating the remote tuner. I truly believe the problem was fixed for good. The two key factors were: (1) getting the case registered and well documented with Honda Canada and the (2) coordinated effort between Honda Canada technical team and the local dealer. I would cautiously still recommend the vehicle knowing that Honda approached this clearly knowing what they had to do to fix it - however a labor intensive and expensive fix. Disconnecting, reconnecting power really doesn't do anything at all. I've been having this annoying problem for quite some time. The dealership had already replaced the unit and associated wiring harness however a month later the problem came back. No resolution in site, Honda continues to avoid releasing a recall despite multiple action lawsuits.

@@alef6122 I'm not sure whether I regret it. I've recently test drove 2-3 other similar SUV (Toyota Highlighter, VW Atlas Cross Sport and Mazda CX-9) but none even came close to the driving experience the Pilot exudes. Other models to consider would be Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisasade but personally I don't like the 3.8 engine - significantly less fuel efficient. On the other hand, I called Honda Canada and they've finally admitted having this problem, but still working on a solution - which I believe is a step forward from a few months ago when they were pretending not knowing about it. They've opened up a case and promised to followup with me shortly. I'll keep pressing and posting the progress.

@@alef6122on software update. Not known or not disclosed but given how they've approached it, or rather dismissed it, I would assume it's more than just a software update. @@tylermanley1107 My advise, keep applying pressure both onto the dealer and Honda. Call Honda, report the problem, have them document the complaint in detail and ask for a case number, then call your dealer and let them know that you have a case number they should be following up with. Call them weekly if you need to. I've tried building a nice relationship with my local dealer but they got to know me intimately and I won't stop until they eventually will be solving the problem - one way or another.

Paul Bathan it will eventually come back, trust me, they fixed my pilot about 8 or 9 months ago, and it has no issue since after the fix, now after about 8 or 9 months later, it came back, the screen suddenly shuts off and it takes several hours to reboot, and then it shuts off again shortly, you has no access to the main screen (including back up camera) and sometimes the speedometer gauge screen, You feel like you are driving a really old car in 2020 without a back up camera.

Its the most bus network its a fiber optics wiring system introduced to honda in 2018 but BMW has been using it for a bit longer... i work at a dealership i walnt say the make but we run into this issue the system and engineering behind it is still semi confusing to techs and when we talk to the guys who understand it better they dont even sound that confident. There is connectors that are placed in via service bulletin that only improve the harness by 20% ive test driven plenty of these and anyone over 20 years old should be able to drive a car thats only lost its audio display and gauge until they get t ok a dealer. My advice stay away from pilots and odysseys and if you get a car with a turbo make sure its a 2.0l or bigger
