My little 2015 Honda PCX150 is finally getting a new shoe today! I'm installing a fresh Michelin City Grip 2 tire to replace the previous one that suffered a triple nail strike on the highway. I just had my first blow out on my Adv 150. Thanks for the video, it's nice to see it in a video before you jump in if you can. Fortunately it blew about 2 blocks from my house and I was only going about 35mph. Parked it in the drive and jumped on the rebel. Made it to work with time to spare. It pays to give yourself extra time to get where you need to go!👍👍👍

    Great tip! I've done that in the past with mixed results. The scooter tends to want to roll forward off of the center stand if I'm not careful. Of course, chocking the front wheel helps to prevent that. I approached this tire change the same way as my Super Cub... the Hard Way: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4Wtto-TmsfAdag.html . I'm giving myself some practice for the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run coming up in June. I won't be carrying torque wrenches or 2x4s with me on that trip... nor the impact gun! 🤣👍 --QM

    I always enjoy watching maintenance videos. True story. As I was leaving the Honda dealership a few weeks ago, an old guy came pulling up on a ratty looking red PCX with bald tires and a ripped seat. I asked him how many miles he had on her and he said 36,000, ever adjust the valves or have any trouble out of it? He said no just change the oil and put tires on it. Have you ever replaced the belt I asked? He gave me a funny look and said it has a belt?

    It’s funny you say that,.. I’m in Thailand right now riding a rented pcx 150 with 45,000 kilometers on it ( just under 28,000 miles )…and the thing runs like it’s brand new ( and you know it takes a beating being a rental , different riding styles, unexperienced riders etc.) makes me feel pretty confident on the longevity of my pcx 150 that I own back home that only has 2500 miles .

  • @QuasiMotard

    @QuasiMotard

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, sir... you have a keen eye! I swapped the long 90° stem for a low-profile aluminum 80° offset one during that change. The longer ones were a bit floppy because they used a traditional rubber coupling at the wheel. I always had to press on opposing sides to get a good seal on the stem when airing up or checking pressures. The low-profile stems are solid aluminum and use a locking nut and o-ring inside the wheel... no flex and more durable. 😉👍 --QM

  • @QuasiMotard

    @QuasiMotard

    Yes, I upgraded the rear shocks on this scooter to the YSS G-Sport shocks: bikerzbits.com/honda-pcx-150i-yss-g-sport-tg302-335trj-04.html . These didn't increase the travel, but the springs are stiffer and the shock is damped better to prevent bottoming-out. I would suggest searching Ebay or other sources to see if you can get them without the overseas delays and shipping costs. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

  • @QuasiMotard

    @QuasiMotard

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the feedback! The PCX is one of my favorites for sure. If I had to pick one mini-moto/scooter, then the winner would be my Super Cub C125. If the choice was only one bike/scoot out of my entire stable, then the CB500X would be the last bike standing. I've ridden the ADV150, and it's great. The ADV's efficiency is a bit lower than the PCX because of larger tires and slightly worse aerodynamics, but the differences are minimal. The ADV150's improved suspension and flat handlebar make it great for bombing around town and zipping through traffic. If you're interested, you can watch a comparison video that I did here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rI521tevj9vTn5c.html . If the ADV160 ever makes it here to the USA, then I'll probably upgrade my PCX150 for that. I'm really hoping that Honda brings that here... or even better... the ADV350! I think those scoots would sell very well here in the States. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Hi Quasi. I hope that all is well. Since you are doing PCX tires, I had a question if you don't mind. I'm changing my Stock IRC tires on my 2019 PCX to Michelin City Grip 2. The problem is that I found the correct tire for the rear (120/70-14) but Michelin doesn't make an exact replacement for my front tire (100/80-14). They do make a 90/90/-14 and a 110/80-14. I checked my front rim because it is noticeably more narrow than the rear rim (Rear rim is 14x3.5 and front rim is 14x2.15). I was wondering if you thought that either of the other size replacements tires would fit my front rim. I know that your PCX takes a different size front tire but maybe you have the same width front rim? My front tire size is very rare apparently as I have checked other style tires but can't find any exact matches that are in stock anywhere at least. Thank you for any pointers that you might have for this. Jim Bradley

  • @QuasiMotard

    @QuasiMotard

    Жыл бұрын

    Howdy, Jim! I'm not sure whether changing the front tire size might affect the ABS or not. Honda's ECU's can be sensitive to that on certain bikes. Generally speaking, you can usually get away with a +/- 10mm width without too many complications. As long as the tire fits within the forks and fender, then it's good to go. Michelin does have that tire size in a different model: www.michelinman.com/motorcycle/tires/michelin-city-extra . I haven't checked with USA resellers to know if it's available, so you might check around. I would also recommend checking the Honda PCX forums (e.g., www.hondapcx.org/ ) to see if anyone there has up-sized their 2019 PCX. Good luck, and let us know if you find a good fitment. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

It's scary riding with people like that on the road. Some folks just shouldn't have a driver's license. Take care and thank you again. Jim Bradley

  • @QuasiMotard

    @QuasiMotard

    Жыл бұрын

    It's about the same amount of effort required, but in different directions. The PCX requires the removal of the exhaust and swingarm support. The Super Cub has a messy chain, chain tensioning, and axle alignment afterward. So, it's a toss-up on which one requires more effort. The SC is probably a bit less time-consuming because the exhaust doesn't need to be removed. 😉👍 --QM

    @美冬さんの冒険(Rez) I'm planning to start with a fresh rear tire and CVT belt. I'll bring two spare belts and one spare rear tire on the SCBR trip. I doubt that I'll need the CVT belt, but it's better to have it just in case. The rear tire *should* last 8-9K miles, but it's a wear item that will take a beating during those long, straight highway runs across the country. The center strip will probably wear down quickly, so it might only last 4-5K miles... we'll see! 😉👍 --QM
