Honda Odyssey: Broken Spring, Bad Axle & Front Brakes
In a previous video I replaced the rear springs on this 2010 Honda Odyssey. Now it's time to replace the broken front spring and insulators, The customer also wanted the front brakes replaced as well as the CV axles because it has a nasty vibration under load. Easy peasy!
-Enjoy!

That was really nice of you, buddy! I've been following Eric since around 2014 and he indeed is a good dude!
I'm glad that You put these videos on here. You and Mrs O are Funny. But also Serious. You take care of folks in your area. And We are Blessed to watch You!! GOD Bless You Folks!!!
Mr. O., you were in the zone in this video. Great job!
I love the dramatic music when the brake cleaner comes out.
This is a guy that takes care of his car---I like to see that
Another outstanding class at South Main Auto University. The instructor's style is something to behold. All KZreadr mechanics take note!

Lol... I so wish everyone had a camera in their pocket when I went to auto school... It would be internet gold, watching an instructor of mine, have a vehicle fall off lift at FULL HEIGHT!

Definition of my getting older? Trying to watch this video after 11pm *twice* and convincing myself I won't doze off. I failed both times. Third time is a charm LOL. Thanks as always, Eric.
Oh, one more thing, the drop off from the dealer. I hope it makes into the series. I have a feeling it will be a major cluster! Take care.
I thoroughly enjoy watching you repair the autos at your shop. I miss being able to turn the wrenches myself due to my disability. Another very informative video with step by step instruction. Keep em coming.

Good job Eric. I do miss the sheeps call every time you use Fluid Film - how come you’re not doing that any more?
It's just great watching a master at his craft. You make it look so easy. If it's not to late please make a video of the car all torn apart from the dealer. That would be be interesting. You're the best !!
Wow nice job, you’ve had three kids but still have a hard time finding it😂, always a great job , thanks for taking us along
Hi, Mr. O. If you can do it, I can watch you do it, That's for sure. It is good to see Honda design work to your advantage, unlike many other designs that do the opposite. Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
"Off is the new on" 2 episodes in a row with a great t-shirt tag lines
I just love how you pull off the Astro and hammer the socket on with it! Every tool has a hammer side!
Springs are always fun. My S-Class Mercedes almost cost me a finger when the spring compressor let go while setting the spring in place. It took quite a few stitches to put my finger back together.
I love watching the videos of an excellent mechanic at work. I miss working on my own cars do to age. What would used to take me maybe 3 hours is now 6 or 8 hours, no more.
You make it look so easy. What impresses me, is a mechanic with your experience, still uses the torque wrench. Thumbs up.👍

LOL He did use the "verbal CLICK" on one of the strut nuts.
When everything you have can be used as a hammer, everything looks like something that can be loosened with a hammer. And you're right. Love the channel. I've learned so much about general mechanicalnessness, beyond the vehicle maintenance. And you're a fellow upstater, so we gotta stick together like rusty sheet metal.
Makes it look easy. Strut springs are scary, even with the correct tool.
The citizens of Avoca are blessed to have such an honest fella they can trust with their junk. God Bless you Mr. and Mrs. O.
29:30 He slips in a Rainman Rayism, Shiny! love it! Another classic.
The paper towel trick is brilliant
Eric, Great video and repair - thank you! Perhaps you could explain what the deal was with the drive axle and how you determined it to be the source of the vibration. Paul (in MA)
Customer bought some very nice brake pads, all Japanese Akebono. Nice big service job to boot...
You have to listen fast to catch all the movie references! Love it. Yea baby!
Another great job done at SMA! Thank you for the tips and of course the entire video! This ole Hondoo's gonna do great for another 10 t0 12 years or until the salt/rust claims it as on of its victims. The salt on that inner splash shield was stuck like glue. Reminds me of the late 1950's though the 60's till Sept 68. Then came 4 years of the USAF. The shields in the late 50's through the 70's were sheet metal and not long lasting. "Come on, you got 3 kids!" LMAO!
Nice to see the fronts done and the hints - like if you havent done spring compressors, take them somewhere. Hey a quick note, the silicone grease works really well for the pins in squeaky door hinges too.
Alrighty then. I admire you skill, knowledge and confidence. Not all KZreadrs have all that. I've seen too many just blunder through it. Not fun! Good day sir and thanks.
I am amazed by how you seem to have a perfect instinct for how to deal with rusty fasteners.

For sure. After years of experience it becomes instinct
Hey Eric, near the end of the video, when the job is almost done you should hit the easy button that's on your tool cart. I see it beside your computer screen. Because you make it look easy. When you do a diagnostic video I don't have a clue on what to look for, but I can do most other repairs and replacements on the vehicle.
Loving the Odyssey vids! Lets me know what I'll be doing eventually. Thanks for what you do! Say "hey" to Mrs. O. for us all!
‘c’mon, ya got three kids’…..what a hoot…another great video.
It's great to see a true professional at work. I feel for you working in the North with so much salt and therefore rusty car parts. I just spent most of today replacing the front coil springs and drop links on the wife's 14 year old Ford Fiesta. I live in Scotland, where we can have severe winters. Heat no good, quality impact gun no good, cutting wheel helps. Even with the bolt heads cut off on the drop links , I STILL needed to drill the remains of the drop links studs out due to rust. I suppose a garage would just say cheaper for labour, just to replace the whole strut. Keep up the good work, I have learned so much from your channel.
Still the best auto repair channel on KZread. My favorite channel on KZread. Keep it up Eric O. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I've had my employer's Subaru in for dealer oil changes. The first 4 were disasters, 3 different dealers, all fails. I finally asked employer if I could do my own oil changes. Got the ok, saves them money and it's done right.
Thanks Eric another great adventure video and I totally enjoyed it. As you mentioned Honda do think ahead sometimes with those strut access holes. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖💖💖
good way to relax on a Sunday night with a quality SMA video and working on a Hondu, Thank you Mr. O for another good video.Oh yeah and the barke kleen intro just the icing on the cake!
good old fast Freddies. in the early 90 there used to be a fast Freddies in Wellsville on 417 near the old drive in loved that place
I love when you can just get off rusty components like nothing and make it look easy haha. Gotta love the North..

I had Centric Premium rotors for my 2010 Odyssey. They started pulsing after not too long. It would get worse as they heated up. I inspected and found they were not split cast as advertised. I called Centric, and all they said was simply: "oh yeah... they're not all split cast even though we advertise them as such." I don't know if that contributed to the premature failure or not. I do know that I replaced them with Bosch QuietCast, they are split cast, and they have been fine for a couple of years. The advantage of split casting, BTW, is that the vanes are symmetric hence dissipate heat more evenly. The OEM rotors are symmetric vane, split cast.
Love when you reference neutral drop and love when they reference you. You guys are awesome
Thank you Mr O. For the antidrag clip part. You know Honda told me my 09 Honda Odyssey is not equipped with them. So thay won't put them on. So I told them nether will you be putting on my breaks. I was only having them do them because I was down with a Hernia. Still got it done myself 👍
Yeah those anti drag pins are a pain I always put the top bolt in first also, guess both our me-maws knew the same tricks. I usually just hook a bungy cord on the top and strap the other end around the lift arm to hold the caliper. Anyway always appreciate your content and always looking for better (easier/faster) ways of doing jobs and you’ve shown me a lot. Thanks bud, look forward to the next one!
Not sure if you are pulling an Ol' Super Trooper on us with the "meow", but damnit it made me chuckle every time you did it. As always excellent work!
Mr O you are hilarious. Hot magma !!!!! while greesing up the hardware for the brakes
You and Ray and pine hollow are my go to channels Mr O
Those drop links can be such a PITA that if they are OEM with no flats I just change them anyway. The last ones I bought were £8 ($10) for the pair delivered so it was a no-brainer. If I was paying for my own time the labour cost involved in messing about trying to save them would have far exceeded the cost of the parts.
Anybody else relieved when Eric finally tightened the axel nut. I thought he forgot 😮
Hey Mr. O. I’m a 69 year old retired guy from Wisconsin and live about 25 miles from where they produce WD-40. I worked at a trucking company that transported that product daily. I wasn’t there that long before moving on in life but we moved millions of those cases on to there destination. That was 41 years ago, glad to see it still has a great reputation. Can’t be without it. Love the videos!
Always get a inspiration kick when watching Eric fixing cars
I have used the exact same spring compressor at work and those springs aren't too bad - the real big ones with only a few turns are real nail biters! I use vice grips on one of the lower holders for extra safety - I have seen one wind its way out
Speaking of cv axles, the pink haired attendant at my local parts stores gave a trans cv axle, when it was time to install nothing worked. 🤣🤣🤣 Excellent video as always.
Amazing how his bench space is so small and cluttered! But I’m told that’s the secrete to a great technician!
Another great video. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has turned a nut in the wrong direction! It gives me hope that I'm not alone when making mistakes.
I am so excited to maybe see what manner of shenanigans the dealer just dumped on your doorstep. However I most certainly do not envy you and I give my most sincere condolences :P 33:55 dear god you slayed me with that one
I am jealous of your torque wrenches.

Hi there is that salt all over the wheel well ? excellent channel for great content from Ireland.
You sure can manage the rusty stuff. Well played old timer - well played
Sunday night SMA!
SMA video Sunday night... Yes please! Nice job as always!
I laughed out loud at the Dr. Evil quote during the brake lubing haha
Bonus video since we have that gen odyssey! Thank you!
Thank you for all the excellent content eric
I like the paint mark idea. Great video
hope we get to see that car that just got towed in from the dealership
Nice combo of labor overlap. Thanks for the video.
I love these long formats
you should try wd-40 specialist penetrating oil in the sprey can with adjustible straw nozzle, works even better than standard wd-40. nice work as always.
Great work Eric. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Gotta confess, I miss the old 10 part engine replacemnet series.
2010 Honda Odyssey is five (5) years past it’s Life up in the Rust Belt of New York. Customer’s Money pays for Mrs. O’s Shopping trips and Other Bills. 😬👍🙏
Love that cap you’re wearing! Another bow hunter. Awesome. I’m 72 years old and still bow hunt everything. Well, except calf killing coyotes. Ar15
Happy Sunday Eric!
always a pleasure to watch you sir.
Wish I would have known that trick with the brake pad clips this weekend😂 will keep that in mind next time!
I also used Centric disk brake parts, front and rear, for my '12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible when I did that job a year or so ago.
Good job. Like all the nicknames for your tools.
Best of the best! You always make everything look so easy while entertaining. Thanks!!
Good night, I jumped twice after you compressed the spring the second time. Another great video Mr O!
I replaced springs on car once, the struts were bad bought as a unit, pretty hard job for me a diy guy. I’d probably bring it to my independent shop next time 👍

Thanks for another great video. Appreciate it!
Thanks for the video Eric O. Great job on the Hondoo. Take care of yourself and family and be Blessed ❤️❤️👍✅
I could have used someone like you when I was younger I had to do it all by myself the only person in the family that could take machines apart and put them back together and I had to figure it out all by myself transmissions engines everything wow I could have really use someone like you back in the 70s and the 80s everybody wanted me to fix their world I did the best I could boy what a pain then I severed my spinal cord oh what fun that is you know what on Earth I love watching you because I see The challenge and the knowledge in your eyes God bless you sir
Thanks for another awesome video. It doesn't matter what the task of the day is, there's always something to learn. We appreciate all that you do. And a huge thanks for doing work where the customer supplied the parts! The local shops that I have been using will no longer install ANY customer supplied parts. And they always have a lame lie as to why they don't.
Another great video. Stay safe out there.
I learned some neat stuff on this repair! 😊 thanks !!!
Eric, this was an excellent video! You know I saw the easy buttton, and I heard it in my mind, "That was easy!" You always make it look easy! Thank you!
"C'mon man, you got 3 kids!" I love this guy!😂
Yes, please put that pin back in that grenade 😆 Two things gave me the heebie jeebies while i was working in the motor pool: compressed springs and airing up split ring tires! Thx for letting us see you work and with awesome commentary👍
I remember the first time I messed with anti drag clips, lots of bad words!
Why is nobody else commenting on Eric O's commentary about three kids at approx 34:00?? My wife wanted why I was laughing so hard!!!!! Eric O, great stuff as always.
Nice work Eric O. Thank you for the video.👍
great video!! I really enjoy watching your methods and repairs Thank you
Thanks for the video.
