Thanks for taking the time to create this video, thou it may seem like a simple solution, it would have cost me a service call thinking it was the door actuator. Lucky for me that I stumbled upon your video and that was the reason my door was not locking. I was installing a rear facing camera and the rear passenger side door was not fully closed. Big thanks to you! My kid told me my Honda Odyssey van couldn’t be locked. I replaced the key fob battery and it still didn’t work. Almost wanted to take the van to the dealer but then found your video! It was so simple! I closed all the doors manually and the lock key on the remote worked right away! That's all sorts of weird. Actually I would think that FOB is messed up or not programmed correctly. I would try getting another FOB and that I would think would fix your problem.

Thank you so much, my car would all of a sudden not lock and had no idea why. Had just hung a jacket in the back, when outside and a sleeve was slightly keeping the door open!

Hi i habw question i have honda civic 2012 Lx I have two keys And in the winters but i want is to start the car and lock it with one key and wait for 10 minutes to warm and then come back and unlock car with second key. But the problem is when i start the car with one key and i go out from the car. The car is not locked. It is still unlocked . How can i lock that car so that after 10 minutes i am only one who can open with another key ????

Pretty sure you can't do this. I'm betting there's a mechanism that when you start the car, you can't lock with a key as a fail safe to not lock yourself out. What you could try is (maybe not with the engine on) but manually lock the doors from the inside with the driver door open. Shut the door so the car is locked. Then try the remote on the other key and see if that works.

Thanks, after replacing battery (obviously didn't work) and reading all the other potential problems requiring a visit to the Honda dealership, I stumbled across your video. Upon further examination of the car, the rear seat passenger door was slightly ajar. Felt stupid! Weird thing was my open door was not illuminating on the dashboard. Thanks!!!! Save me a trip and further embarrassment.

New to me 2013, replaced both fob batteries yesterday. I typically use the lock on inside of door, but when testing buttons it wouldn’t lock, and sure enough a door wasn’t completely closed, don’t think I would have noticed.

I'm going to guess your key fob is not working correctly. If you can manually unlock the car with the key, I would try getting another key fob.

Are you able to manually unlock the doors with the key? If so, you FOB has an issue. If not, it could be a mechanical issue with the lock or door.

Something might be wrong with the mechanical locks. I would take it in for something like that and see what they say.

Looks like something is wrong with my car 😩 the key fob locks all but the drivers door. I try to manually lock it, but again all doors besides the drivers door lock. Any idea what it could be?? I’m guessing it’s something with the door.

Probably your lock mechanism. There may we YT videos on how to switch that out? If not, any mechanic can do that.

Friend of mine has the problem of the car not locking but unlocking ok. But if a door is not fully closed. Wouldn't the interior lights just remain on anyways?

You may not notice it if it's during the day. Or maybe you have the light switched to the off setting? It's still very possible for that to go unnoticed.

I have two key fobs. One of them locks and locks normally, but the other one will only unlock the doors and only feebly at that. I replaced the battery, but the problem persists. Because it's only the one key that's malfunctioning, the issue isn't that one of the doors is open.

It's probably the key itself. The chip in the key is probably dying. That's why changing the battery doesn't do anything. Get a new key and it'll probably fix your issue.

I would manually unlock your car with the key for now. Something is probably wrong with your FOB. I would get that checked out or get another FOB.

Uh oh. Check the fob and make sure the red light isn't solid. Try manually unlocking the car with the key. If you still can't get it open, I would start with the key first as the issue. Also try manually unlocking more than 1 door and see if any door will open.

My passenger door indicates that it’s open on the dashboard but it’s not. So my car won’t lock with the key fob. It’ll only unlock. I have to manually lock it from the inside. Please help!!

That sounds like a sensor problem then. You'd have to find a video on how to replace that sensor or take it somewhere to be fixed.

My key fob will unlock all of the doors perfectly fine, but when it comes to locking them, it only locks 3 of the doors. The driver door stays unlcoked no matter what so i have to manually lock it each time. Any ideas on a fix?

There's something wrong with the locking mechanism on that door (most likely). Either take it in to have it fixed, or if you can find a YT video of how to change it out, go for it that way.

Nevermind.. my back trunk door wasn't shutting properly. I had to put some weather-stripping foam on it. And now it closes.. so now it locks! Helpful

Did you try the trunk button and any other buttons besides the unlock? Do all those work? If so, the unlock button on your key fob is broken. Time to get another remote.

@@IRush514 Hmm interesting. Try this. Hold down the lock and unlock button together until you see rapid red flashes from the fob. Then try. Hopefully that fixes it.

Are you able to manually open the car with the key in the door? It may be that fob. My guess is you need a new one. Probably not communicating with the car.

@@anti.anti27 It's gotta be your key. If you're manually unlocking and the alarm is going off, the key isn't communicating with the ECU to tell the car it's you. I would get another key made and that should fix it. You should be able to go to any locksmith, as that'll be cheaper than going to Honda.

@nukem384 dude thank you so much for replying, I talked to my dad about it and he mention to be safe replace the battery which I did and that honestly worked I didn't realize that when the light on the key flickers it means it's running low, so when I replaced it I tried to unlock it and the light only flicks once per click so it was the battery luckily. Either way thank you for replying and actually trying to help 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

You probably have an issue with the actual lock on whatever door you're trying to open. Have you tried the other side door? Does that side unlock?

You sure you're at the right car? Haha I kid, yeah that's not good. That has to be some sort of electronics issue then with the chip in the key. Do you have a spare key you can try and see if the doors will open?

Is the red light solid on on the fob? Try changing out the batteries on the fob and hopefully that fixes it.
