I picked My Wing up in March of last year. I had a pretty serious accident in 2018 on my previous bike, a Concours 14, so I opted for the airbag model. Fantastic bike. I agree with your thoughts on the labor hours involved in doing simple maintenance. Still, the best bike I've ever owned, and it's an amazing looking machine. I had My seat redone, because it was pretty hard. A ride from Indiana to California helped make my mind up to have that done. Local upholstery guy reshaped and added softer foam, and used the original cover. It still looks exactly like the stock seat. Very comfortable now. I'd definitely buy again.

I think you should record a video about how you shoot your videos. This was impressive.

Kevin, I also have the 2018 Gold Wing DCT and I absolutely love it. Prior to that I had (and still have) the Honda CTX700 DCT, which was my introduction to DCT. In 2017 I wondered why Honda didn’t have it on the Gold Wing at the time. When I decided to buy a touring bike, I ordered the 2018 Yamaha Star Venture. Before that bike was delivered Honda introduced the 2018 Gold Wing and when I saw its features, especially DCT, I was hooked. I canceled my Star Venture order and ordered the 2018 Gold Wing with all the bells and whistles. I have not regretted it for a minute.

Kevin, I want to thank you for two things. First, as a novice rider I practice your techniques every time I am out on the road and keep safety at the forefront. I was wondering when you were going to update us on this, thank you, I have what is referred to as the baby goldwing , a 2016 Honda CTX700 DCT. I love the dct, one less thing to worry about so I can focus on the road, and they are built the same way, around the air filter with more plastic than a Tupperware convention, that being said I will also say I enjoy riding this bike more than any other I have ever had, thanks again for the update and stay safe

I’m a 2X 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour owner as my wife has one as well. We are loving the ride and tech this bike has to offer. I agree with difficulty w/installing accessories as I have taken both bikes apart several times for installs and it’s a challenge each time. I’ve shared several improvement ideas w/Honda when they called to follow up after the purchase. So far no major issues after 11500 on both bikes. We have DCT as well so it’s very easy to ride but slow speed parking lot maneuvers can be challenging. Thanks for your videos and great safety advice. B blessed! 2Wings.

I just started motorcycling the beginning of February. My main reason was to get in the diamond lane to ease my 30 mile commute each way with a new job. I ended up getting a Honda NC750X DCT. As a new rider, not having to deal with shifting while in stop and go highway traffic was very helpful. Kevin, your channel has been very helpful too; I've watched too many episodes. Ha. Really nice episode! I think most people that watch these motorcycle videos on KZread would agree that there are none more professionally done than yours. It’s tough to get through some of the other channels simply because they just don’t have the speaking skills one would expect from someone asking for your patronage. Awesome machines! I’d love to have one some day. Stepped out of my 2017 Victory Cross Country Tour last year and into a 1998 Valkyrie. WOW! Talk about a Hot Rod! Quicker than the Victory and the Harleys! Some of the simple items you mentioned I recall having on the Victory, so I am in agreement regarding the simple “No Brainer” items one would expect in a touring MC. Great camera work too! And WOW, those streets were EMPTY!!!

Many thanks for this excellent overview of the Goldwing. This is probably the best touring motorcycle available today in the market. The only option I would hesitate to choose is the DCT but since your feedback on this technology is positive I may consider it. Great review Kevin. I had the same observations on my 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT after one year and now after two years? It's still a great bike. I've sold one of my Harleys and the other (2019 Street Glide Special) will be gone as well.

Great review Kevin! I’ve had my blue DCT for 2 years now and still love it! I almost got a Can Am Spyder, I was looking for something more comfortable for my wife and I to take longer rides. I had a Suzuki M109R at the time with an after market windshield and hard saddle bags. After she sat on both with me , we decided on the Goldwing. This is my first touring bike, I recently had a Hyabusa and a B King, I’m glad I made the change! Keep up the great videos, have a Happy Easter...

Great information + video 1st Goldwing 1976 love the "reliability" and ready for next trip. Purchase the 2006 goldwing again 15yrs reliability and SUPER comfortable traveling, by way heart on 2021 goldwing,thank you "great comments " DCT WOW"

Hey Kevin that was a good video on your review on the Honda Goldwing. I now have a 2018 Tour non DCT. My last Goldwing was a 2005 model which did have a 6.5 gallon fuel tank but my endurance running on the interstate interacting with traffic and also riding with friends there was no way to run that thing till the last half gallon. I think that the Honda engineers were looking a little things to shave the weight off the bike on this generation. And yes the trunk and bags are smaller too which I will miss on my 05. The ride on my new one is by far better than the old one. It was OMG no fork tubes dang. That I like in the suspension part. Yes and the Air Filter challenge I did on my own on my last one was a bear if you have a lot of time on your hands. Ride Safe everyone...

Great video, Kevin, and a great overview even if that wasn't your primary objective. I've had my '18 DCT Tour for around 14 months, and every time I get on it I fall in love with it all over again. I came from a '15 Road Glide Special that I spent way too much money on to make it the way it should have been from the factory for that much money. Given the fact that I put 55,000 miles on it in 3 years, I had a hell of a time selling it. After I'd had the Wing for a while I started having a twinge of buyers regret, mainly because the Harley was still sitting in the garage. So, one day a few months after I bought the Wing I took the Harley out. Oh. My. God. It was like going from the Wing to a Cushman Eagle. Clanking lurching bumping crude, it was like going 30 years back in time. The Wing is the most amazing motorcycle I've ever owned!!

Kevin, your footage and camera angles are really incredible on this video. Great presentation.

I also own a 2018 ultra limited and I like upgrading, maintaining, and fixing my bike. To date I've added trunk light, Rinehart full exhaust and air filter. New lights on the rear bags and between the bags. New stereo amp with six speakers. LEDs and so on with chrome and gloss black wheels. Goldwing is a great bike I had a 99 Valkyrie interstate loved it. Be safe

Very good info, thanks Kevin. I've been tempted with that Goldwing for a while and I like a lot of things about it. Also, I really like that you point out things that annoy you about it: several are deal killers for me: 1. requires an iphone and so much trouble syncing bluetooth & Sena!! Every time it's started!. 2. has no brake lever on left handlebar (My former BV350 scooter had that and I don't know why all DCT's don't have it. It helps in so many ways.) 3. all the add ons that needed to be installed at the factory instead of requiring so much labor to install. 4. smaller fuel and storage than prior models (to lower the weight I'm told). 5. it is not an upgrade to my K1600GTL.

That Goldwing came out after I had purchased my K1600. Honda really made some needed upgrades to the line. As big as it is, I’m surprised at how small the actual luggage volume is. It is a good looking bike though. As impressive as the bike is, I found myself thinking this could have been a promo for that drone 😄. Those maneuvers it was making through the trees looked incredible. Stay healthy, better times are ahead. 👍🏼

I'm old school and just like the looks of the HD. I had to laugh when you said Honda is nickle and diming its riders. We HD riders can feel you frustration. I enjoy your channel. Fair and honest review. Having owned my 1983 GL (chromed out, sissy bar, leather bags and yes leather tassles) for almost 20 years, still not tempted to trade my old and reliable baby in . Love the plastic free look and ride still, plus Spark plugs take minutes to change and air filter only a few minutes. Love your channel, all my riding friends have had it sent to them. Call me old school, but still enjoy the open face helmet (yes latest one is WHITE). Not sure if you have done a review of tires and also show example of cupping ... and explain/demonstrate safety of NEW tires. I decided one year to finish off season (live in canada) with rear slightly cuppped tire; as "wasn't riding much" - and experience of bike "auto righting itself to flat spot" after being leaned over around a corner gave me a scare. Learned my lesson, thanks Kevin

Outstanding video on a fantastic motorcycle. The latest Gold Wing, like it's predecessors, is a real tour-de-force and Honda should be congratulated. I appreciate how you went through the list of performance, safety and comfort features. If I was considering a new GL purchase, I would go with the DCT model & airbag too. Kevin, as a nit, you listed they smaller fuel tank which got me thinking about another tech feature; the dreaded start/stop fuel economy system. Love it or hate it, the new Gold Wing would be the ideal platform for this "green technology" and would add, IMHO, to the bike's commuter capability. Another of your concerns was basic maintenance access and your suggestion that Honda designed the Wing from the air-box out. This is a complex machine and so now even the basic stuff may not be able to be performed by the owner. Keep in mind that Honda not only engineered the motorcycle, but built a full service dealer network too. Owning a Gold Wing (or any other 21st century touring bikes) means partnering with Honda's other client, the dealer. All-in-all I agree with you that Honda has indeed hit a homerun with the new GL1800, just not a quite a walk-off! Great video really enjoyed. Since my last GW update once I begin my ride if I leave the phone connected in the storage box it finds the headset and restarts CarPlay without issue throughout the day. My .02 thanks so much for your videos. You make us better riders.

Great video Kevin. As regards taking plastic off to do simple tasks, I know what you mean as I bought a GW 9 years ago and now have a Pan European (ST1300) and the latter is just the same.

Thanks for the review Kevin. Just about everything I would say, and you bring up some good additional points as well. I agree with your point for sure on what Honda should have added, and I also agree it is still a good purchase. I also have a 2019 HD Low Rider, and until I purchased my Goldwing in December, 2019 it was the best handling motorcycle I had. I absolutely believe the DCT is the way to go, and specifically the Tour model, not the bagger, so those ride mode features are not missed. I will at least add a trunk mounted brake light, and some fog lights. I already have Kisan Electronics on my brake lights, and their headlight modulator. I kind of don't want to ride my Low Rider anymore! Thanks again.

I've ridden Harleys for years,but don't like the new Glides, with the 18" wheel, also the nav, radio system seems clunky, I tried an Indian , same thing, although a nice bike, I thought maybe I was going to get a adventure tourer, went to try an Africa twin, but their demo was out for another hour, so salesman said, would you like to have a go on a Goldwing, so I did. Well it was a revelation, it was so smooth, light on the controls( clutched model) heated seat ect, I realised what I needed , a new Goldwing, it's just so smooth, easy to ride it's just perfect. Yes fiddly to fit accessories to, but, you can have all the fairings off in under half an hour , so not the end of the world. It's just a lovely comfortable bike, I'm glad your experience was agreeing with mine, we just need the lockdown lifted to ride our bikes. I'm thinking of a Honda Cub next, for local trips. Great work.

@@njlocoman yes your right, you can use a Goldwing for popping to the shops, but I have a steep drive and I have to manoeuvre the bike down, and around a corner in reverse, hence a smaller bike to just nip down the shops would save me 15 minutes messing around, plus also lessens the chance of me dropping it, which when doing that manoeuvre I'm always mindful of.

I have the 18 Tour DCT in White like yours. I LOVE the bike. I had the 02 in Pearl Orange and put 106k smiles on it over 17 years and owned other bike since I was a teenager. I have no issues with a clutch but am very happy giving it up for the DCT. As you note, it frees the mind to focus on riding and at the end of a long day my hand doesn't hurt. I do find myself downshifting manually to pass of if I need to clear an intersection quickly. As for the nickel and diming from Honda, I agree, some of the accessories I added should have been standard. I added the trunk light (why no saddle bag light option Honda?), the fog lights (standard on the 2020), the under mirror deflectors (they do a great job especially in the colder weather), and the SXM antenna (I figured they had the tupperware off for all the other stuff, might as well have the antenna installed.) BTW, the location of the SXM antenna causes too much connection issues especially heading in a northerly direction. Plus, the AM/FM radio is awful. Slow speed maneuvering takes some getting used to so I practice u-turns in large empty parking lots. I practice emergency braking too. In the end, I wouldn't trade my GW DCT for anything else. I've been watching your videos for the last year and I love the safety focus with hidden humor. I'm a fairly new rider as I've been riding since 2017. My first bike was a 87 Kawasaki 454 LTD as a starter bike. After commuting to work with I realized it wasn't very convenient bike for stop and go traffic. I stepped up to a 2014 Honda CTX700 DCT. It's a touring bike, nothing fancy but a huge improvement in having that automatic transmission. It's a low and easy rider and gers me where I need to go without all the extra things, and I just put some OEM saddlebags on it. However I think after a few years the Goldwing F6B, or basically the one without the rear carrier, will be my next bike. That DCT is a lifesaver and easy to get used to. Thanks for another great video and amazing camera work. How did you get the 360 shots with the drone? Was someone else following you?

Really like this video. Love the honest dislikes and opinions along with all the pluses. And like Mike said prior, really really loved the cinematography. Outstanding. That's something I was specifically searching for when I found your video... what does the GW look like in action from the outside perspective. You hit a home run with that. I've been a Harley touring rider for years and feel I'm going to make the switch to the GW DCT... love the bike. Thanks again.

Hi Kevin, Great Video as usual. I fell in love with the 2018 Goldwing that first time I saw it. I was riding a 2017 Harley Road Glide at the time and long story made short, I am now a proud owner os a 2018 DCT Tour. I absolutely love the bike for all of the reasons that You mentioned. Changing the air filter is a great time to install any aftermarket parts since so much of the plastic has to be removed.

In October 2020 I picked up a brand new hold over 2018 DCT Airbag model. I looked at them when they first came out in 2018 and liked them but didn't pull the trigger until I found this one just a few days ago. Very happy I purchased the bike. It is a ROCKET that is capable of road trips. I have a Bushtec trailer so luggage space isn't an issue for me at all. I look forward to seeing just how easily this bike will pull that trailer.

Just got off of a Valk after 20 yrs. Now on a brand new 16 F6B... another great bike

I actually learned to ride on a 2008 Goldwing a little over a year ago! A friend had just bought himself a 2001 with a matching trailer, so I asked him to teach me! Best thing I have EVER done! I now own my own 2003 Goldwings and I absolutely love it! I was able to take the BRC #1 on my bike and passed with flying colors! ( I had the option of using the smaller 250cc they had at the school on base with the military, but I didn't need to) I learned on that bike and that's all I had ever ridden! We have since been on many trips, my favorite being a 4 day excursion up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and North Carolina! I am a true fan, and all I will ever have is a Goldwing! I have watched almost all of your videos and take time out to practice my skills in a BIG empty parking lot often! Thank you MC Rider!

Was thing of getting a Goldwing last year but chickend out after sitting on it and just got another sport bike. A few months later I got to demo ride one and regret not getting one being I love to ride across the country. Was the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever been on. Loved the DCT to.

I've just passed the two year mark with my 2018 Goldwing 6-speed. Since this is my first Goldwing, I can't compare it to previous generations, but my biggest complaint is seat comfort after a few hours. Aside from that, I truly love this bike.

I am going to be buying a 2020 airbag in october. Thanks for the wonderful video.

I bought my 2018 DCT-Airbag Goldwing in nov 2017, delivered in march 2018 - therefore not riding it before getting it! Since then, it is a daily pleasure riding it, DCT or manual mode when being in the mountains here in Switzerland. I had a 1500cc goldwing for 20 years, with my DCT i jumped in the future of biking.... Sure its big, but so easy to handle that you forget the weight. Carplay and NAV could be better, but anyway no other bike today offer these features (to my knowledge) - Great video just confirminh that I made THE good choice. So long

Goldwings are the Cadillac of touring bikes. I have owned 2. A 2000 model and a 2009 model. I only kept my 09 for 1800 miles. Had two very close calls that were not my fault. Too many idiots on the road distracted driving ! I sold it and miss it quite a bit. But I just didn’t want to be crippled or killed. Great video. Ride safe. EDIT : I originally watched and commented on this video while attempting to learn about the new generation Goldwing. I gave in to my desires and purchased a new 2021 DCT Tour in April of 2021. I love the bike. And now watch this channel with gusto to absorb the wealth of knowledge about becoming a safer rider.

Kevin you hit the ball right out of the park, I myself have a six speed manual so the DCT I can’t comment on. I love the ride the aesthetics the amenities and all the nice features it comes with but as you stated it should have come with fog lights additional USBs useable grab rails and a trunk light but, I’m with Kevin I’d buy it again because the pros out way the cons.

I own the 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT... coming up on one year. Absolutely LOVE this motorcycle... Not loving the seat comfort or the luggage space... and I added a load of accessories $$$. I absolutely loved this review... I think it's probably the best produced, best scripted and videoed review I've ever seen about the 2018 Goldwing... and I agree with everything you said in the video! Great Job! Thanks Kevin!

Wish you would have mentioned the unacceptable FM reception! Loved the comment that the engineers brought in the air filter and designed the motorcycle around it! Perfectly scripted and executed! I’ve watched so many Goldwing reviews both before and since I bought mine, but by far, the best and not even close to the second! A+ Thank you!

Nice Kevin I have a 2018 DCT non tour model I bought in may of last year and completely love it. This is my second wing I do all my own maintenance it just takes a little Time to remove all the tubber wear. Plus I use the Cruiseman Video tutorial great stuff. Bin riding about 40 years now and in my opinion Honda makes the best bikes out here. My last two were Harley Davidsons just could not get use to their ride heat and no comforts for me. Love your training Videos watch them very week to keep tuned up. I am getting older and need train on many of my riding skills and to stay focus on what I am doing while ridding. You are right about Sport mode. Coming home from a ride there is a rural road with no driveways and very little traffic for a half mile. I end the day with a throttle test there.

Thanks Kevin! I appreciate your honesty. I had a Honda back in the early 80's. It was a fun bike, but I am a Harley owner and have been since the mid 80's. To tell you the truth, the DCT scares me. It is an adjustment, no question. There are two partial solutions. The bike has four ride modes, and if you put it in the mildest low speed maneuvers are easier. Also you learn to use a little rear brake. The fact that you have walking forward and backward helps with parking lots and such as well.

David I have the 19 DCT Tour....I am a big fan of Jerry Palladino and his Ride Like a Pro class. I took it on my 08 Wing and my DCT Tour Wing. You have to use the rear brake and have it in rain mode and in manual. I feel that using the friction zone with your clutch does no harm to the motorcycle as long as you do no let it get to hot. Since you use throttle and rear brake on the DCT , constantly using your rear brakes and throttle puts stress on the bike. I did not care for it. Just parking the bike in parking lots and moving it around in the garage is not to bad. You have walking modes in reverse and fwd. Of course head and eyes and very important as well.

Good morning Kevin, you are right for all the comments, I have the same motorbike, and indeed someone who is not skilled with his hands and wants to add accessories, can cost lots of money, but you are not not obliged to put the accessories. the reliability and the comfort of the goldwing quickly obliterates the small details and how not to forget the silence of the machine .... Great video, Kevin, and the Goldwing is a fantastic motorcycle, but at 70 years old and on a tight retiree's budget, I'm sticking with my 2003 Yamaha Roadstar. It has been totally reliable in the 17 years I've ridden it and it's all need for cruising the countryside here in South Carolina.

lovemy 18 dct,but mines sweeeet candy apple red.. dct is awesome. Hurt my left arm years ago.. dct allowed me to get back on the road with a bum left hand.. LOVE RIDING |MT HONDA GL WING..

I have a 2018 GW. This is my third Gold wing and to say the least I'm a Goldwing freak. I had a major problem using my Apple car play and my map. Bert's motorcycles did everything to fix this, finally they said reboot your phone. So I went to T-mobile and had them do their magic on fixing my connection problem and it worked. Now I don't have any problems hooking it up. I have the airbag DCT and I absolutely love it. Best motorcycle I've ever had and I've had a lot of them. I agree with everything else that you said. I mostly ride the bike in tour mode and love it. If I want to get a little crazy and switch it to sport mode that keeps my speed fix happy. I highly recommend the bike.

Always like your videos Kevin. Always!! Really liked this one too. I'm not a GW owner, most probably never will be one. I think the correct number of cylinders a motorcycle should have is 2. :-) And don't think I could ever get into a DCT system. But I'm also very quick to recognize how good GW's are and what an incredible leap forward the DCT is. Anyway, wanted to say that the quality of this video is Hollywood good. And your content was excellent. You're first class Kev. Just sayen.

Love GL's on my 3rd GL. I find older 1500's and frame up them Can't go into a 1800, frame is too short for me. You are correct on the working on side of new GL too complicated and takes the fun out of it. Maybe I need to look at a 2020....hummm

I also own an '18 DCT Tour with 13K miles on it, and yeah I agree with everything you said to a T. It's hands down the best touring bike I've ever owned. For the trunk/saddlebag lights I just bought button LEDs off Amazon and stuck them in there, simple install and works fantastic! I'm an ex Harley rider, and I wish HD made a bike this good.

Hey Kevin, A DCT transmission is still a manual gear box, but it’s automatically shifted with actuators. It moves the clutch just like you would with a manual transmission. It just does everything for you. It’s a dual clutch because it can shift into another gear while you’re riding in any gear. Maybe too complicated for most, but just thought I’d comment. And yes, for most, it shifts automatically so it’s an automatic transmission.

Great Video!!! I have the non tour and the seat is a BRICK need to send mine to WINGSOFT!!! I did do 668 miles about three weeks ago!!! It was a 15 hour day and it cost me $35 for one meal and fuel got 42 plus on my MPG. This “TOWDY BARTLETT” Thanks KEVIN

As a DIY mechanic, the maintenance kept me from buying another Goldwing. I went back to my second favorite touring motorcycle which was the ST1300. Like you, I choose function over style. It is not the most stylish bike but with the handlers extended back a little bit, a more comfortable seat with some side support, a rear luggage carrier, and the reliability of Honda, it is the perfect bike for me. I can get the plastic off it in half the time as the Goldwing and everything is accessible with the plastic removed. The only pain is if you have to adjust a valve on the right side of the bike because the cam tensioner is located in a difficult position to get to. Thankfully, I've passed two valve inspections and no adjustment was necessary. I do like the headlight modulator but routinely receive the bird from drivers when they think you were blinking your headlights to get them to move over or they confused you for an emergency vehicle. Thank you for the breakdown of all the equipment. Russell should refund the cost of your seat for as many followers you have.:)

ST 1300 great bike wish it wasn’t quite so tall but that’s the only complaint… May be a bigger kickstand. 7.7 gallons gives you 45 miles a gallon, as fast as the wing and better in the twisties, add racetech front end and you’ve got a total sleeper sports tour bike… Although also heavy as a gold wing…

I love my GW 2019 DCT. Not bothered about lights in the boot or running lights. I have two bikes and the other is a Panigale V4R. If I had to pick one. GW would pip it to the post. It’s just a pure pleasure and you can push it hard on the twisties as well.

Hello Kevin Good Evening from the United Kingdom. I have the Honda NS 750 DCT called the Forza which you don't have yet in the USA. Thank You for the heads up review on your Goldwing. I can't wait to get this motorcycle. I'm just halfway there it comes up with the cost of £30,000 think I'd like to own by PCP.

It's more weight than I can handle, and more bike than I'd probably ever need, but it sure is handsome. And I can definitely see it being being worthwhile in a place like Texas, esp if you do a lot of riding in between cities. I don't know much about the tech involved, but I was really impressed with the cinematography of this video. I can't figure out how you got the drone to follow you and shoot you while dodging those tree boughs.

I completely agree with your pros and cons. You are right about adding accessories! Holy crap is it time consuming, but I do love to farkle. The trunk size I am ok with, but I would have loved to be able to through my XL Shoei RF1200 in the saddle bag when I arrive at my destination. I have been riding ST1100s and St1300 for many years, and thought a bike couldn't get any better. Well it did with this new Wing. I am not a knee dragger but love how this new Wing handles in corners and around town. And what can I say about the reverse, simple awesome. Had an opportunity to ride a buddies GTL Exclusive, which was going to be my next bike. After riding his a couple of weeks ago with the larger saddle bags, more HP, I found it to be top heavy and didn't handle as well as my 2018 Wing. So I agree...I would buy this bike again in a heartbeat.

My last MC was Honda 450A. I had tried to somehow get Honda to manufacture a Gold Wing “A” model. My feeling was that there would be folks who would love a Gold Wing, but the thought of having to learn shifting seemed just too much, especially for someone typically in their later years of life. Kudos to Honda!! Now if I could afford one. 😱
