Do you think it would be the same seal for a GCV190?

doublewide6 Repairs LLC I’m having issues with my Honda gc190 pressure washer which is a karcher 3050 oh pressure washer. Couldn’t figure out where leak was coming from. Pump is fine (seal) and crank shaft (seal) is okay. The dipstick rod I just replaced. Still have oil just below the dipstick rod where the engine sits on a bushing sits on the plate. Very odd. May be this!

@doublewide6 I have a 8hp tecum engine doing this on a 3 in 1 chipper shredder. Do they make one for it??
Hey DW, just installed one today. Very easy, took less time than watching the video. Excellent tutorial! Thanks, Jim
Just donated to your son's cause. I hope he gets better soon! Thanks for this video. You helped me and I hope I have helped you and your son. God bless!
Thanks for the lesson. Clear, direct to the point and the video centers on what is necessary for better understanding
Many thanks for the great video. It always bugged me that my Honda mower leaked oil from the first time I used it back in the summer of 2008. If oil can escape, dust and grit can enter and cause premature wear. Using the tips shown in your video, I easily installed a new seal and the problem is now a thing of the past. A+ all the way.
This is an AWESOME video!! I have two Honda engines where this is a problem. What a relief to find that it is an easy fix. THANK YOU!!!
Little known fix to a common problem...thanks for sharing AND for providing good information.
DW - I just did mine. Elegant fix - easy too. Thanks for providing the video. - Chris in Tampa
Great video, just what I needed to stop the leak on my Honda engine.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It sure saved me lots of time and money. It wasn't so easy to find the oil seal here in Germany, though... All the best to you!
Thanks DW6. I think this will fix my leak! I appreciate your help.
Hi. Great video. Thank you. Just wanted to add that if you screw the dipstick in, the level would appear higher and one would not add oil till it is above level.
Thank you for the video, Bob. But I'm not sure about the Cotter pin. If Honda forgot the seal could it be that they also forgot to drill a hole on the shaft? Does the Cotter pin go into a hole or does it just slide over the shaft into the groove?
Thanks, used pressure washer yesterday seen oil on wet driveway, this morning a larger oil spread, was ready to take to repair shop when I saw you video, I had overfilled oil, everything good now but would like to know where to get that governor seal for Honda engine. Gc190, thanks again
Thanks for the great video, i always learn something from watching your videos. I have Hondas, so far no leaks but you can bet i will be keeping an eye on it. Thanks again DW6
ok, I have a pressure washer with a Honda gc 190 engine - the gasket Amazon is selling is not the same as the one you are showing - which one is it?
Great video, but does anyone know if the GCV190 has the same issue, and if so, whether the same seal part number is used? I've got a shop manual but can't find it at the moment, and the seal probably isn't listed anyway since it wasn't included from the factory (mower).
Perfect. I just noticed my Honda mower leaking from this exact spot. Gonna get myself a seal and fix it up.
Simple question, I have the GCV 190 LA Honda engine on a pressure washer and it too is leaking from the governor shaft but I can't seem to find the part specifically for the GCV 190, will the one you show work on this model?
Ha. I know this video is old but it's to the point and will solve my problem. I've got two Honda GCV 160's that have the same problem. Thanks for the video and the ever crucial part #.
man this helped me a while bunch. I have a Troy built bilt gcv 3000 with a Honda engine. I am having the same problem. I am in Miami, fl how can I purchase one of these seals from you?
Hey DW6, great video! Question: Why didn't Honda install the oil seal? Did I miss something?
Bad ass bro. Exactly my problem. Great instructions as well. Had my done in less that 3 mins
Wow, great job! Your video is so clear that this 74 year old grandmother can't wait to add a seal to my leaking lawn mower! Will the same seal you used fit a Honda Lawnmower HRX217K5HZ? Do you still sell the oil seal?
Good video, having the same problem on one of these with less then 30 hours on it in a pressure washer, this will be my last Honda small engine for sure, will stick with the Briggs and Stratton have several of those on my three mowers never an oil leak on any of them.

Thanks so much for this! Noticed oil leaking on the GCV160 engine that powers my Toro Super Recycler. Oil level at the full line (but not over) on dipstick, but I think the small hilly areas of my lawn are enough to cause this problem. I get that Honda saves a few bucks by leaving the seal out, but really? Wonder if the newly redesigned GCV engines suffer from this or if Honda didn’t want to hear complaints about oil leaks anymore. 😄
Thanks! Emailed about the part. Awesome
Hey I just watched the video. How can I get in touch with you to order a seal?
My GVC160 had been collecting black oil smear near that shaft for a few years, and this is the cure! Hint: Take the hair pin out to clean out the seat for the seal, then put the pin back on and carefully set the seal (flat side out)on the shaft up against the pin. Remove the pin and grab the shaft with pliers or grips, and finish seating the seal into the engine, then reassemble. Mainly what this guy is doing with some R+D. The shaft will push in but who knows how far? Take care...
Double wide the oil capacity for the Honda is 12 oz. not 18 or 20 like a BS engine. Great video on replacing oil seal which was never there to begin with. For a mower that costs $400+ you would think Honda would put a seal on the governor shaft.
good info ..Thanks !!
My 15 year old Kholer 15.5 started leaking in the same spot. It still looks and runs great, but I will see if I can get or make the seal. P.S. my wife said she would pay for a new riding mower, so I hope I can fix the leak and get a few hundred bucks for it. Thanks for sharing.
Best Video!! Thank you!! My husband will be so happy
Did I miss you taking out the old seal? Or did it not have one originally? I'm about to change mine and want to know what to expect. Thanks

M Mares, his (DW6) never had 1.
umm... wouldn't tightening down the oil cap cause UNDER-filling? I mean, if you just place it in there you get a LOWER reading than if you tighten it down.... but yeah, overfilling is a problem in a lot of small engines.

Thanks for the video DW6. I hope your son is doing better. Said a prayer for him and your family. I’m not sure how PM you on here so I had a question about Honda GC190.i checked the governor shaft as your video suggested but I didn’t have any oil on it. Have a ton leaking out from the bottom. Just replaced the pump and added oil. Didn’t know about the right way to check until I saw your video. Do you think this is overfill or do you think it may be something else?

Fantastic job. You’re great!
Excellent video!!! Thanks😊
Well done. Super helpful. Thankyou.
log splitter honda engine, and the was the last thing I would have thought, and yes it is milled for one but it is like they forgot to put one on. Thank you
Hey, I have tried over and over to get the seal started. But it seems like the seal is just too big. I get one part started and the opposite side of the seal pops out. I tried various sockets, open wrenches, blunt screw drivers, tapped with hammer etc. I just can't get the seal started in the machined cavity. Do you have any more tips? Thanks, Rick
I would put the seal on the shaft up against the cotter pin and then pull the cotter pin. that way there's less chance of pushing the governor shaft into the engine.

That's what I did after looking at the setup for 10 minutes lol. Yes, I'm that slow.
Great video
You said I can order a seal from you by sending an email, but I did not see your email addy anywhere. How do I contact you.
Thank you!
How do I order the seal from you?
@ 1:56 Screwing it all the way down to check the oil will make it seem like there's enough oil in there when there isn't, not too little oil. Saying that they will over fill it by screwing it all the way in is exactly backwards. They are in danger of not having enough oil, not too much. The further in the stick goes, the more it will look full, so it doesn't make sense that they will over fill it by pulling the stick out slightly to check the oil level.
Amazon lists a 92201 and a 922202.....which one for the governor?
Good job double wide I also hear that shaft will go into the block then you would have to check it I'd out visegrips on it

I overfilled my pressure washer with oil, removed most of it, but it wouldn't start - just one loud backfire blast. Can it be repaired or should I try to start it again?

pull the spark plug and try to start the engine that will force out the extra oil on top of the piston. Drain the oil down to the right level first.
Looks as though I over filled oil, oil is leaking from engine, where's the main oil seal? And how do I fix it?
Do you still have these seal's for sale?

Same question...
I wouldn't want to find out either. nice
Can anyone post the part number for the seal here please?
i have a Dewalt 4200 PCI and can't starting becouse motor blocking, and when turn out spark i did see oil is full cylinder, what need do?
ive been resting the dipstick on top of the threads to check the oil for years, because i know to read the manual and stickers
THANK YOU.... SAD THAT EVEN HONDA "CHEAPS OUT" and does NOT install a seal on every 160 model that roles off the assy. line...
I screwed up to these gaskets trying to seat it. Not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong.
What is a governor shaft?
What is your email ? I would like to buy a govenor seal for a GCV-190.
Mine was the pump shaft bearing leaking the sealed grease all over the place.

yes......wifes camshaft seal on her lexus
Engine seems ok now but very low water pressure. Now what?
Why would the honda engine manufacture not put an oil seal in the engine? That seems kindof dumb. Also why do they have the dipstick not threaded in to check the oil?

No oil seals saves them money. As for the dipstick, Kawasaki does the same thing. Read your manual so you know what your doing.

I cant believe they would skimp on something like that. My dad has a Kawasaki engine on his mower an its like that. Reading the manual is always a good idea.

Love2boat92 Its not really skimping... if the oil level is correct and the engine is stored level it should never leak. overfilling causes leaking (among other problems).
