I collected my Honda e just over a week ago, and I'm pleased to say the range is better than I was expecting. The delivery date was delayed by about a month (July to August time) so that a software update could be made to the cars (already in the UK) before delivery to customers, and that update seems to have improved the range noticably. The demo car that I drove at the end of June only seemed to give about 100 miles per 100% charge, but my car (with 16" wheels rather than the wider 17" wheels) seems so far to be easily giving me about 145 miles range. From my calculations I'd estimate that the usable battery capacity is about 31.2 kWh, rather than the about 28.5 kWh of the demo car and the early cars like the one Bjorn drove. In the demo car I only managed 3.6 miles/kWh but in mine I'm getting about 4.6 - 4.8 miles/kWh average. I'm very happy with that!

  • @Pikminiman

    4 жыл бұрын

@@jorakarandas6592 : I agree, Honda's IMA hybrid system isn't very good. I should know, my daily driver is a 2006 Civic Hybrid. But the reliability data seems to indicate that Honda's current hybrid system is extremely reliable, and it shares nothing with the old Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system. IMA is basically a belt-and-pulley CVT transmission with two electric motors. It adds complexity compared to just having a transmission. The new Honda hybrid system, however, has no transmission at all. With such a common point of failure just gone, it's down to the reliability of the electric motors, which are ridiculously simple mechanisms and proportionately reliable. Unfortunately, Honda has really fallen behind on hybrid car efficiency. Honda offers better hybrid car driving dynamics and performance, but at high speed, a current Honda Insight gets 42 MPG while a current Toyota Corolla Hybrid gets 54+ MPG, meaning the Honda gets 22% worse fuel economy at best.

Air temp. was 24° C and battery temp. at both start and end also 24° C. No A/C. The trip was done with a consumption of 14.6 kWh/100km. Return trip was 15.8 kWh/100km. The overall average was therefore 15.2 kWh/100km. This consumption that Ioniq achieves here, there are hardly any other electric cars that can cope with.

People need to stop with the whole range anxiety and battery size craze. It's just a huge waste of harmful and expensive lithium. 90%+ of people don't even drive 150+ km nonstop. So for nearly all people this battery size is big enough, if the car had a bigger battery they wouldn't use it at all and just carry around the lithium batteries as dead weight, so for nearly all people a bigger battery would only have big drawbacks. Stop the range anxiety and battery size "arms race", start right sizing.

I also drive longer trips of up to 1.000 km in a day, and I see no problem having an electric car, since it charges at 175-250 KwH/hour, which means a 15 minute stop every two hours.

Love the look of it. I only need a car to do 20 miles in each direction to work and back, I don't drive at all apart from commuting so this would be great but alas it costs too much.

I really like this car, even though it's expensive. To me the range is not an issue as I would use it as a city car. I recently got a smart fortwo EQ which has less range because I wanted a small car. I had owned an ICE smart fortwo and balked at the 80 mile range of the BEV version. So I checked my Google maps timeline for the previous 3 years and my longest car journey was 70 miles, and then on just three occasions. I'm pretty sure I'll get this at the end of next year unless something more interesting is on sale by then.

Its a very nice car, but what lets it down is the price. Given the competition from many other EVs in that price range, I don't know how anyone can justify owning one. It's just a fashion accessory at the moment. Maybe next year when they see the poor sales they will lower the price to a more reasonable level. The battery is still too small for a 2020 Ev regardless of what they do.

My I3s makes more fun so at the moment i don´t know what to buy as the next bev. A rear wheel drive, short Hot Hatch with about 200hp and 300km wltp will be very welcome ;-)
