Honda Deauville 650 Clutch Replacement Honda NT650V

Hi Folks, Changed the clutch on the Deaustroyer today, set aside a good couple of hours and pre-soak the new Clutch Plates in 10w/40 semi synthetic motorcycle oil before commencing with the task at hand. All went smoothly enough, cleaning up the two mating faces with thinners took the most time, but DO spend time and clean thoroughly. Any questions don't hesitate to ask. stay safe.

Thanks Adrian. That made a lot of things clearer. A couple of things bother me though. Before removing the clutch nut it is important to un-stake it, because otherwise there is a chance of damaging the thread on the shaft. It is advisable to replace the clutch nut with a new one. It costs about £8 but if you use the old one and tighten it to the correct torque then it will need staking in the same place which will not be possible or strong. Also though it is a lot easier to just tighten the clutch nut with a nut gun, surely it's not worth the risk? If you don't tighten it enough it will be loose and wear is likely to occur, but if you over tighten it you could strip the thread and then you'll be in trouble too. Seeing videos like yours makes things a lot clearer than the Haynes manuals I find, so thank you for posting this :-)

Thanks for your comments, I used the wolf it's perfect for undoing such nuts, and as it's not a nut that's frequently removed one go with the impact driver won't hurt, I didn't keep my finger on the trigger when it had tightened as that would just be asking for trouble as you rightly say. It's all a question of feel. A new lock tab isn't essential either, yes replace if it's had it, but mine was fine. I did unlock the tab using a punch.

Great video thanks for posting it. I assume mine is on its way out now so this is my next job. When I'm changing up to get the national speed limits I find my revs rapidly climbing instantly after changing so I think it's slipping. Now I've watched this I feel confident enough to complete the job myself. Cheers

Have you tried adjusting the cable?

Yes it made finding neutral again much easier but it's still slipping under heavy load. Surprisingly fine if I'm not pushing on though.

Good video but one little criticism, I don’t mean anything negative I’m just saying what would help me personally and that is, film and edit if you wish all of the process. Case to point would be, one of the comments was asking about the nut, and retainer and you mentioned that you had unclasped the retainer with a punch. If someone wants to do it for the very first time, full process would be so much better. The photos were ok because they can see and pause to read and absorb. Not everyone has as much mechanical experience as you but with encouragement and steps from start to finish they can achieve the desired result

No, was lucky to save the one on there, it was fairly new anyway, if you are doing it and yours are old...then replace.
