Turn up the brightness on the dash. It has a few more notches left from factory. Also I believe it needs a full system, they don’t make a slip on that I know of -not here in America anyway. I went with the akrapovic single and it’s amazing. Still not very loud but pretty good. Supposedly this bike and pipe combo don’t need a map. I haven’t noticed a whole lot of difference in mpg or any loss of power. It’s more responsive for sure. Another thing I did was adjust the play in the throttle. It was already a crazy smooth bike, but with the throttle play adjusted it’s even better. I’m a beginner and this bike has been amazing to ride and learn on. I hope I haven’t spoiled myself too much with how easy this bike is to ride. Love your videos. I’d love to have you on my podcast Far Betterment. I think you have a pretty great story to share. Do I need to purchase anything to win the bike? I’m stuck on an 82 Honda it’s really scary to ride on it doesn’t feel like a stable bike and I can’t afford another payment on anything at the moment but anyways lol I’d be happy to win it

Something to note, my dad had an 06 SV 650 and he put 112k miles on it before he sold it someone else who still rides it. Towards the end it used a little oil, but otherwise he never even had to adjust the valves despite checking them religiously. Great bike.

In 2006 I bought an Sv650 for $6000 out the door. At the time I think some magazine referred to it as the best street bike ever made for the real world. I'm not qualified to make such a statement but I certainly loved everything about it. Like you guys the road test guys kept emphasizing that the Trimph and the Honda or whatever had better brakes and suspension etc. I'm thinking "I hope they got something for an extra $3000!". And I still can't get over anyone referring to it as "a beginner bike, good for a wife or girlfriend. It only goes about 125 mph and take 14 seconds to do a quarter mile. Wheelies just fine. Awsome track bike with a race class of it own. I've been riding for 50 years it's plenty fast for me. I know it's not the only nice bike out there. Everyone makes great motorcycles these days. But I can't understand anyone that doesn't appreciate the SV a great ride, especially for the money. Also I found your narrative a bit confusing. Your references to "this one and that one". Had me guessing which one this one was.

@H H Absolutely. 0 to 100km/h in less than 4 seconds. Enough power at low revs to lazily overtake people without downshifting, but also has a powerful top end. They rev to about 11.000, and hit 120km/h in 2nd gear. My 1999 model very rapidly reaches 180km/h, acceleration above that is not that great, but still enough to be overtaken only once or twice on a hour long autobahn ride. Enough torque to be able to put it in 3rd gear and drive away like that (though the clutch doesn't appreciate that). Compared to the Ducati monster 797, the SV is much happier to rev, offering about the same acceleration but feeling faster. In short: quick and nimble, and fast enough unless you wanna bully fast german sedans on the autobahn. The newest model is very chuckable and nimble, the oldest one is just okay in corners. Many people with a 1999 model throw on some new, better shocks.

bought a SV in 1999 (the S model) had it for 13 years learnt to scratch and ride on the track with it. modified front end and a couple of things (the rectifiers were a problem) since then I had a RGV 250(sold recently) still have a GSX-R 600K8 Kawasaki ZX10R (track bikes ) and a2011 CBR 1000RR for the road , I am just about to buy a new SV again, here in AUS they are $10k . I know I will enjoy riding on public roads a lot more on this baby than on the Blade ,the Blade is awesome but a little bit too much on the street. ( SV is great for wheelies to !!)

I honestly thought it was an MV Agusta when he first rolled it on camera and you couldn’t see the exhaust.

I'm 65 and have been riding for 53 years ... started on dirt. My first street bike was a 1972 Honda CB350 and since then I've had a bunch of different bikes, no HD's. Since 1998 I've been riding BMW RT's since I was doing a lot of long distance touring. I gave up touring a couple years ago, been there ... done that ... next. Bought a BMW G310R, what a BLAST! But the 34hp got boring pretty quick. For the past year I've been searching for a bike to fit in between the R1250RT and the G310R. I was looking for a mid weight naked. I looked at them all Ducati, Triumph, KTM, BMW F900R and all the Japanese bikes. At the Cleveland bike show this past January I decided on buying a Honda CB650R and it's been one of my best bike purchases, ever. I LOVE this bike. I love the characteristics of an I4. I don't need massive torque down low to pop wheelies. The CB650R is an adult bike. This is my end bike. Well, along with my Vespa GTS250 :)

i wanted to get the cb650r but due to pricing i was like nah, considering sv650 so bad. So how is it? is it a good beginner bike? and whats teh difference between sc 650x and the normal sv650

I have been riding 30 years and I love my beginner SV. :)

I started on a 250, then progressed to a 650, then 750 and finally went to a 1000. Now I’m going back to this 650 category because it’s the best power to weight for motorcycles. A 1000 is too heavy, gets too hot, and is too powerful. And 250cc bikes have no power. These 650cc bikes are perfect and the most fun to ride.

Like legit, any modern superbike weighs the same as the sv650 and some even lighter like the superduke. Weight is not the issue on the bike especially when you're riding mostly on the street but I guess the extra power is useless for you. I still own my 2009 gladius but I cannot choose to ride it over my 2017 tuono 1100rr.

I actually switched from 125s to riding my fathers ktm 1190 adventure for some time before getting my self a versys 650... For my the weight of the 1190 wasn't an issue (its like 215kg or so) but it's just to powerfull to be driving in town (don't get me wrong, I love All of its 140HP). Also the handling is more for long distance and adventure riding (obviously) rather than for in traffic. However, my 650 (as with any 650), you get a smaller and nimbler bike with power to match. I am actually having just as much fun on my 650 as on my fathers 1190.

Congrats man! A blue 2008 was my first bike too. I ended up totaling it doing wheelies but I loved it because that bike taught me so much before giving me a reality check. Since then, I've never dropped another bike and I'm on my 3rd one, GSXR 750. The GSXR 750 my favorite to own as a shiny toy but the SV650 was the funniest and quickest to learn on because it is fast but forgiving.

@@JustWrightHD I no longer have the SV. Now I have another twin. KTM 1290 Super Adventure. They can be a little jumpy in first and second, but nothing to be scared of with good throttle control. The torque is addicting.

20/10 for video review loved the duo setup and casual riding experience. We need more real world tests they are just a blast to watch as a viewer and gives off a great realistic perspective.

The stock SV is a great building platform, mine has a lot of work done and doesn't suffer from the issues mentioned above. Of course they're both pretty cool though.

I really loved how you guys contrasted the differences and similarities of these bikes.

For my first bike I had to decide between these two bikes. Ended up getting a really good deal on an sv650x and absolutely love it.

Excellent review guys. Both bikes are good choices, but I’ve wanted the Honda from the first day it was launched. The only negative comments I had were the display in bright sunlight and the rev dip torque, both of which were covered. 👏

I’ve had a 2008 SV650 for 6 months now and I love it, It’s a great street bike, has good and useable power but is also pretty good for long distance trips, I’ve ridden it from Los Angeles all the way to Tempe Arizona and back with no problems at all and it wasn’t too uncomfortable. I high recommend it

I think this is the first time I'm seeing your channel! Love this content! Great job on production but just constructive criticism here...little more refinement and smoothness when getting close up on the bike and moving from one part of the bike to the next. The CB650R was the first big bike I ever rode on, and although I did love it, it was way too much for a beginner like me, it pulls like crazy and I'd definitely consider it more of a sport than a naked. I've now switched over to an SV650 and it's just so much more manageable and user-friendly for someone of my skill level. If you're an absolute beginner like I was I'd recommend the SV650 until you gain a little more confidence, then jump onto the CB650R once you've got your confidence and skills down.

I haven't been on (or in) a Honda, that didn't feel like 'home'. It all just fits.

My friend gifted me his 2003 SV650 for me to start riding on. I go for my learners permit on the 1st December. I’m excited to get out there and learn :)

Yeah, think about their performance in car terms and you'd never call them starter vehicles. Imagine saying something that does 60 in 3.5 and 150mph is 'beginner'

Calling something a starter bike is not saying anything negative about the bike or those who ride it.. They're just saying that the motorcycle is forgiving and will be friendlier to someone who is more likely to make beginner mistakes

Soloman 5k I don't consider having a power band flat spot and being overpriced as "nailing it". They nailed it so well it will probably be out of production soon.. Suzuki has nailed the SV650s for 20 years running which is why it is still around. A modern classic!

Daniel Tucker Tough choice, a proven modern classic VTwin (reliable, economical, serviceable and virtually unchanged since 1999) or flavour of the month from Honda. Consider why some models continually get changed or dropped from product lines. Now consider how good an engine has to be to go virtually unchanged over 20 years and still be viable and sought after in today's market. Also consider that the pricing difference is largely because one company paid for the production costs 20 years ago! Tough choices!

You guys made a nice bike comparison video. Yes, the both have place. V twin characterizes low rev brunt and in line four features high power that accelerates you at high speed riding exhilarating punch at high rev. It really depends on personal preference beside bikes' styling and price.

Those bikes plus the mt07 and Kawasaki z650 are all contenders for my first bike! Thanks for the great content that helps me make my decision

I bought myself my dream bike first. A 1000cc v twin and whilst its been ok i never felt that i was getting the most from it. Mearly 3 years later ive got myself a 919 as well and my riding has improved so much because of it. I think your bang on about the four cylinder 650 being a good first bike. And that honda looks absolutely awesome, especially in the red, black and grey combo.

Completely unrelated, but: I was picking my Triumph up from the shop for services yesterday, and a BIG old boy pulled in on the Harley Livewire. The _ELECTRIC_ Harley. And I rode it. My buddy and I came up, went 'OOOOH, what is that?', which completely surprised him because he's apparently used to be treated like some kind of heretic by the Dealership Beards. He was so stoked someone didn't shit talk about his new ride, he offered me a spin. I gave him my Street Twin keys, he followed me, and I took it for a 5 mile guided ride. Look, I'm not a Harley Guy anymore. Not at all. Not since my Dyna and I got divorced. But...goddammit it was dope. Halfway through he had me change the profile and it was *_LEGIT_* Completely outside of my price point, but I _actually enjoyed the lack of an exhaust note and gears_ Just wind, some sci-fi windup noise and instant gitty-up. I'm not going to ever be a Harley Bro, but I think they may have done something right for once.

@@edman79 No joke. It was awesome, but not $30k of awesome. My Tacoma cost that much. But on the _other_ hand, between my insurance, the retarded fix-it bills of my Dyna, and the cost of gas, I feel if you're going to do the Harley thing, it makes more cost effective sense than buying a $30k Street Glide. Different crowd though. Dude said he gets about 120 miles on 1 charge, which isn't great for touring but fine for town, said he had no issues finding EV chargers at truck stops where he could chill and snack after a couple hours of sore Road Ass. Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to post something off topic when we should be talking about the 650's, but I felt compelled to share it while it was fresh in my mind

I have that SV650 and I just can't go past the great sound with a nice pipe. Inline 4's do sound nice at higher RPM's but the rumble of the twin is wonderful. In an ideal world, I'd have one of each.

I'm currently learning in the UK on an SV650 and love it!

The only thing I like in the Honda is how neat those headers are arranged.

That CB is so purdy! Top of my second bike choices.

Really like the Honda I have had several of them they have always treated me very well.

The modern sv650 has a lot of electronic helpers for safety and convenience. Though idk if their traction control system prevents accidental nooners. My local riding school (western euro style) uses them for the full power class of bikes. The old ones are definitely more snappy, which is great fun for experienced riders but not good for beginners who didn't do the euro style extensive training. Quite easy to break traction on cold/wet roads. I have a 1999 one, and i love it to death. Lightning fast acceleration, chill highway behavior, top speed enough for the german autobahn.

So the SV is notorious for having a bulletproof engine, its one of suzuki's best sellers and as a result has one of the most important attributes for motorcycles, cheaper secondhand parts. One of the most important skills of being a good motorcycle owner is knowing how to fix your bike. Something I've noticed with honda bikes is they deliver 'the feeling', that rush when you twist the wrist, its amazing, however the ones I've ridden in the past have been a little less nimble than say, yamahas. which is a fantastic bike manufacturer. However id stay clear of yamaha, their bikes are so perfectly engineered you dont feel the rush, you can wiggle your hips and the bike wiggles just as easy, if you need to go fast and want to feel like you're going at walking pace, yamahas are for you. Suzukis however, I feel combine these sensations and experiences, they're nimble AND give you that sensation. Which is why I now ride suzuki. I hope to one day own an SV 650 because for me its the ultimate bike, it was the first bike I ever saw and at that point in my life, I had no interest in cars or bikes, anything mechanical, I thought gearheads were stupid, and then the SV looked at me and said; "Hey..." From that point I have been working towards owning one, the sound, the feeling, the look, its perfect to me. Ontop of all that the SV is what happens when you tell an engineer to make a bike as nimble and responsive as possible, this thing will fucking turn on a dime, and don't even get me started on the SV's that were carbureted, the ease of popping a wheel was crazy, turn, straight, mid gear, fuck it get that bad boy up in the air and give the cops a wave. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but for me, I will never get past the SV, it has everything a normal city rider needs: Torque, looks, sound, reliability, and economy.

I just bought a 2020 cb300r and I am in love 😍 if(and that’s a big IF because I feel like this is the perfect bike for me) I ever decide to upgrade, I’m definitely getting the cb650r

Sv650 is an legendary motorcycle it runs for ever.

My wife owns a CB650R and I'm buying tomorrow a '21 SV650. I owned an '01 and a '16 previously so I know that bike very well and after looking for a ton of bikes to replace my CBF600 as a commuter bike in complement of my Ducati Monster 1100 Evo I decided to try an SV again after 3 years without riding one. I must say I still love that bike dearly and think it's one of the best bikes on the market for the real world period. It handles pretty great, the new calipers make the brakes finally good, and the engine while not as good as the older SVs is miles ahead most other bikes on that segment. Enough torque and power to have fun while being semi reasonable. Honestly it could be my only bike and as much as I love my Monster if I have to go back to only one it'll be the SV. It's fun, reliable, cheap, handles good enough, for someone that rides a lot for work and pleasure like me it's great. That being said the thrill I get on my Ducati is incomparable, the SV is like a boring reasonable Monster.

The question is: where are these beautiful, scenic, almost empty roads?

As a fellow enthusiast of the SV650, I completely agree with your sentiments. It's an excellent choice for a first motorcycle, particularly for those of a larger stature. I recently upgraded the front suspension of mine with the AR-25 Axxion Rod Damper Kit, and the improvement in handling and overall ride quality has been remarkable. This motorcycle now feels tailor-made for my needs, and I anticipate enjoying it for many years to come. It's an ideal bike for honing your riding skills over time, offering a good balance of power and agility.

That road is gorgeous.

Yammie.... could you do a review on the 650 Suzuki bandit please. My bike and I love it!!!

I've had 12 different road, adventure, big cc and motard bikes. Then I bought a 2017 SV650 new from the dealer, 20,000km later, I have no desire to change it which is a big statement for me. Im side by side with any litre bike to 100 km/hr. It handles like a dream and has a mean lean angle. My girlfriends comfy on the back. Servicing and running costs are economical. The raw V Twin engine is better than music. I Decat the exhaust, arrow slip on, k&n filter, snorkel removed, black renthal bars, aftermarket levers, reshaped seat for touring, upgraded headlight bulb and heated grips. It's a perfect machine! Im so happy with it and highly recommend buying one. Doesn't matter if you're tearing up the mountain for lunch with the boys, taking mrs for a ride through the city or going 500km away from home this bike will do it in style.

Suzuki SV650 best bang for buck and the best handling. Oh and that v-twin sound😤 For the price of the Honda you can buy a Suzuki GSX-S750😅

Totally agreed. The sv650 I bet will have better fuel economy. I learnt on a hornet variant and far prefer the sv650 engine in terms of delivery low down grunt and handling.

Was hoping they'd update the display to TFT and change the headlight to LED for the 2020 version but they just made new colorways. Still I agree with the best bang for buck in the middleweight naked category. But if you're open minded in regards to brands CF Moto just dropped a 700cc and based on the pictures they released it's a looker.

Wouldn't say that since i'm my country CBR650R is only 300$ more expensive than the sv650 and the honda's 4 cylinder engine makese it lasts eons with a great power delivery not even talking about the throttle response which is INSTANT and soooo smooth

Just bought a 2022 sv650. stock, it definitely leaves a lot to be desired, specifically regarding suspension. other than that its normal things on any stock bike, flash tune, exhaust, bars, levers, rearsets, grips, mirrors, etc. etc. In the end its a fantastic bike and the lineage speaks for itself (except yo, gladius).

Definitely like this format better. Maybe do a different type of thumbnail for this format.

I am in Iran and even if I win the motorcycle I could not have it . :( just so sad not having one and could not buy one with expensive low quality motorcycle prices . i just wish things gets better for everyone

you know, it's all about perception, and the SV is definitely a less refined bike than the honda, but I just radically prefer the look, feel and engine of the SV, but then again I'm biased, I've owned 3 of them.

@@ehegarty2010 oh yeah, and NOTHING should have the crap pipes put on by the factory, (excepting the Ninja 650, Street Triple and others where the factory can is hidden under the bike and you never see it anyway)

I love the look of the Honda. I really want one. I currently ride a Honda ctx700n.

Had the 1st gen SV650 and moded the suspension weak point almost all SV650 owners did that but breaks were more then adequate.Never felt they could not stop the bike.

"you can go offroad on any bike" i 100% agree.. i go on about 15miles of dirt road on my 1996 honda rebel 125, and this is ROUGH dirt road, more like gravel most of the time, and i make it work. I've only been riding a bit over a month

I noticed you said the CB is only 5hp more, it's actually 19hp more. The SV is 75 and the CB is 94. I bought a CB 3 weeks ago for my first bike. Finishing getting my license this week (UK) and I cannot wait. I love it and haven't even ridden it. We're doing our license/training on the MT07 and it's a fun bike but I wouldn't trust it a lot if I'm honest.

It's great that papi Yamyam is giving away my dream Bike, but it's kinda sad that I can't join hihi. Well, LOVE from the Philippines! Congrats to the future winners :)

I used to own a Honda 919 it had 110 hp 65 ft lb torque. it was a 2006 or something I sold it and I wish I still had it. It was an absolute beast. However I’ve ridden friends sv650s before and I really love the twin engine a lot more. I really liked how friendlier the bike was than my hornet I could twist the throttle a lot more without being nervous but it still moved nicely. If you’re like me and wanting to buy a new bike but don’t want an absolute monster but still like a little power the sv is perfect. In a couple years I’m going to finance one so as to keep a good credit history.

can you make a video on chain adjustment with the sv650 or with all the bikes you happen to buy. would be nice to see more reference videos of maintenance esp when they are being given away. easy way for the new owner to find reference videos I think so myself...

just put a bagster tank cover with the color of your choice like what I did in my cb.. I've put silver on mine and it look awesome lol

That honda is sick! I hate the little interface though, I much prefer analog gauges.
