Thanks Ryan I'll give rusty wrecks a look Thanks again keep the videos coming enjoy watching them take care
I’m sure it goes o ring first, hen washer, then spring then jet for the air mixture. The washer protects the o ring from the spring

You are correct. A few weeks ago I changed mine on the 87 GSXR 1100. If fitted incorrectly or with an old/flattened "o" ring the idle mixture will be incorrect due to air leaking in and therefore give an uneven idle.

Yes i was just going to say that too ,the end of the springchas probably ripped the new o ring
With the mixture screw, The order of parts fitting is, spring, washer then O ring before fitting the assembly to the carb body. The washer goes between the spring and the O ring to stop the spring damaging the O ring. Hope this helps. But it appears many have got there before me!
Great video Ryan. I need to get back into the carbs on my 450 again, it's also not picking up well. This time I'll go the same route and buy kits rather than refurbish old parts. I like the way you approached the rebuild laying out the parts next to each other. 👍

Thank you. 👍🏻
Right then that’s another job I have to do thanks Ryan 😊👍
Good common sense approach , making me want to try and improve my bike’s response as I have a flat spot around 4000rpm 👍👍

Thanks, Although I seem to have made a mistake on the sequence of the o-ring and washer, it wasn't difficult so would recommend it.
I was mid way through typing where the last o ring went when you worked it out. A couple of other people have commented that the rubber and metal washers go the other way around on the air fuel screw. I did exactly the same in my first carb rebuild kit. If I remember correctly, it didn't make any difference that I noticed though.

Thanks Nats, I concluded that was the sequence from looking at the other sets of carbs, but there is nothing to say whoever worked on those previously got it wrong. As they are easy to access without removing the carbs, I'll switch them around and see if it makes any difference. Thank you, 👍🏻
You have inspired me to try a rebuild! It’s your fault if it goes wrong lol.

Well done working out the great carb mystery. Really good video for all us amateur mechanics. Only comment, might as well check the float height when you do this in the future. Kind of satisfying for one's ocd-tendencies.

Hi Mark, thats a good point, although this carb had plastic floats so I don't know how it could be adjusted. But I'll try to find out if it's possible for next time.

@@RyansGarageUK it's just a matter of bending the metal tab that the fat "needle" with the black rubber nose hangs on.
Sounds much better! would agree with the other comments that the rubber o-ring and metal washer should go the other way round... reason being that the metal washer is meant to protect the o-ring from getting damaged by the spring. O-ring missing from the mixture screw would have explained your lack of throttle response due to leaking air.

Thank you for your input, I will be switching the o-ring and washer around as soon as I get a chance. Ryan 👍🏻

Great video said it as is but I was confused when you put the washer and spring round wrong way and suprised the bike run, have you any comments on the piston slides and spring measurement please, is there any reason you did not clear channels with compress air cheers
nice video buddy think the spare washer fits on the brass housing that the float needle fits into but you didn't take it out. and don't need to.

Thank you. It seems to be working okay so hope i got it good enough.
Hi Ryan. You might still find it is a bit lacking on the top end, My bike has a two into one pipe like yours ( Motad ) and I had to go up a bit on the main jet. It was great to 50 mph then faded away onwards. I cannot remember which I ended up with but it was either 110 or 112 and that helped a lot. Check your plug after a run and see if it is running lean and if so go up a bit.

Hi I've just bought 400n superdream. I've had few bikes over the last 36 years. I've never bin able to strip down a carburetor without coursing them flood I always seem make them problem worse an seem make flood but thanks to watching you video's I've managed to remove them an you say drop the mudguard an moving the airbox was so helpful. So Cleaned the carburetors now using carburetor cleaner got of what seems gunge. My only problem now what 10/40 have you bin running the your 250 on as am not sure with synthetic oils..keep the good work up people like find it a great way on learning. Oh what your thoughts engine flush I've never but bin it's good an now so good take Robbie smiler

Thanks Robbie, glad watching my struggles with my carbs has helped. Im no authority on oils, i just bought semi synthetic 10/40 but if you find a channel called Rusty Wrecks, Pete knows just about everything on these bikes and he is always very helpful.

Nice video, thanks. Did you notice on CB250 there's no membrane-plug in the cutoff valve casing, also the vacuum hole is plugged... Is it the same with your bike? It's unusuall fact on the carburetor that type. A time ago I worked on the same carb's but CX500 and there is cutoff valve.

Hi, I think that what you are referring to is not on the 250cc carbs, but is on the 400cc carbs. but I may be wrong.
Spring washer o ring
Didn't I tell you the jets needed replacing.lol, well done it sounds better already, tune and balance carbs next??

are they vb 30b carbs and is there anything under side cover held by 2 screws or are all the holes blocked off

Hi, I'm sure there was nothing under that cover, from memory I think it only contains a small diaphragm when fitted to the 400. Sorry don't know the model number. Thanks Ryan

you need to ultrasonic the body and componants to make sure they are clean.
@NatsNackersYard

I disagree. Yes, it is good practice but not always essential. As long as all of the channels are clear and cleared with carb cleaner and/or high pressure air, it will be fine. Ultrasonic cleaners aren't a substitute for time and effort.

Hi Steve, I dont yet have access to an ultrasonic cleaner, and I did spend more time cleaning the body than was shown on the unload. As Nat said a agree it would be preferable if I could, but I hope that the body will not be causing me issues at the moment.
Very important in this carburetor is removing the seats for needle valves, cleaning and replacing the o-rings for these seats - this is a common cause of uneven work, flooding the candles with fuel and spilling gasoline through the overflow hose and lack of power - I was supposed to tell you about it, but you surprised me with that episode! :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHWZwZeSp7rVhpM.html By the way: wchich sizes are new main jets: 110, 117?Thx

@@RyansGarageUK Yes - 105 was oryginally mounted. I also want highly recommend these two films: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoBtmc-IkdGXaMo.html and kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHakraitqsKtYpc.html ...because I still have problems with setting the RPM and priming the candles, the motorcycle burns a lot and reaches a maximum of 80 km / h at 6000RPM, often gas starts to flow from the overflow hose. It seemed to me that, just like You, I replaced everything - seals, needle valves and still not good - now I know that it will be some of these faults and I am angry with myself that I did not get to this information earlier, because I hate to take out these carburetors with CB250 - it is much easier in Honda Pacific Coast 800 (although it seems to be all built up ..) Cheers!
