Sheesh, a lot of Honda haters out there. Well I’ll tell you that my 2021 atas has been flawless over the 36000 kms of highway, gravel and back country discovery routes! I’m 62 and only want 1 bike in my garage to maintain so it has to do everything. The AT does everything very well. But the choice comes with compromises, ie, I never intended to take it on gnarly single track and I need to travel significant distances to get to interesting terrain so I need some creature comforts. Comparing it to the T7, Tuareg, etc is silly. You need to list what you must have in a bike then slot in models that meet those needs, if lightweight is a critical need then start with light bikes period!

Here here! My 2021 AT 1100 dct is amazing! Ok, not a good in the rough stuff like a t7, or a seat as comfortable as bmw, or as powerful as ktm 1290! But all the good stuff on these bikes is better on the Honda! Mines red/black, lots of denali, altrider and touratech bolted on! Looks great, rides great, Leo vince silencer sounds fkin awesome!! I'm 49, this is probably the last bike I'll buy and I'm not sad about that!!

I have a 22' 890 Adventure S model with a bit over 11,000 miles on the clock. It is a wonderful Adventure bike/Sport-Tourer/lite off-roader. The Gen 2 would be even better with the upgraded suspension. I've been running the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires on it so that would tell you the limits on my riding. A lot of 15mph over riding through the San Francisco Bay Area and down the twisty US 101. I was riding a 1,000 mile loop a couple of times a month for a while and took it up to Eastern Oregon for the Giant Loop Rally last Summer. The bike performed flawlessly, other than the Dunlops not liking snotty mud. lol Right after my break in service (which I had performed a bit early because of needing it for the 500 mile ride back home) the TFT screen went completely black on me riding through the Bay Area. The bike kept running though so I went with the flow of traffic until I needed to stop for fuel. When I turned the bike back on the screen came back up. I mentioned it on my next service and it hasn't happened since but I do get the internal condensation in the edges of the TFT screen which has always gone away. So, other than the TFT the 1st Gen 890 Adventure has been amazing for me but it would have limits off road do to clearance and suspension compared to the R version. I'm thinking about riding it up to Alaska this Summer if I can break away that long.

@@pinkiewerewolf, sounds great. I've got a '22 KTM 390Adv and want to upgrade. Something for longer trips, mostly tarmac. Guess the AT would be great, but handling it in the garage and off-road is a bit of a concern...average rider at best and not a big guy either. So, on a long trip on tarmac the AT would be great for me, but off-road and even going fast in the twisties I guess the KTM790/890 would be so much more fun. Can't do any test rides at all. Btw, got some condensation in the display sometimes too...just in a corner a bit. Somewhat not much of a concern. Might be wrong, but it seems to be behind the plastic cover of the screen...doesn't bother me too much. Still, would be good if that issue was fixed with the new displays. Cheers for your feedback.

@thorstentrapp274 You’re welcome. 👍 I’m a shorter rider so the S’s lower seat height has been great for me. I had a Pan America and a 1290 Adventure SA-R before the 890 and still have a Gen 2 KLR, the 890 is the Goldilocks bike for my size and age. 5’8” 31” inseam and going on 59 years old. It doesn’t roll around the garage like my 501 but it isn’t as monstrous as my Harley Dresser though. It’s a dream to muscle around compared to the Harley. I used to have to maneuver the 890 between a cottage and a garbage dumpster’s fence to get it into the back yard, so it wasn’t parked on the street. Far easier than the Pan Am or the 1290.

You have done a great balanced job of reviewing in the time you have had this bike. Ref front ABS, I haven't really noticed it but maybe that is down to having more aggressive tyres than stock. The dongle you mention is fantastic, but will still not kill the front ABS (rear ABS, traction and wheelie control only). Front ABS is 'hardwired' into the ECU and can't be disabled. You mentioned in a previous video pulling the front ABS fuse. Might be an option but I would be willing to bet that everything else will light up like a Xmas tree if you did. Anyhow, love that you are willing to have a crack at answering questions rather than BSing around them.

Owned one of these for 3 years. Don't know what the issue is with the ABS. Push the enter button highlight the abs and toggle to off. Any issues you had with its sliding is with the tyres. You must turn every screen onto gold for functionality. Takes about 60 seconds to do all screens in settings. Set the favourites button (star button, left hand switch gear) to traction control and you can scroll through what ever level of TC on the fly. Wheelie control is an effing waste of time and MUST turned off whenever you get off the sealed road. For those interested this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYCby6mrgZnPadY.htmlsi=4tQ_UWsCvPh0o_Ho simplifies the whole thing. Scroll through to 41 min to the start of the Africa Twin part.

@@onthebackwheelowned my 2016 AT for 100k miles. The forks issue, solved at 30k with a set of 2018 ATAS uppers. I've gone through 3 sets of wheel bearings, 3 sets of air filters, an IACV valve and 3 sets of spark plugs and all new spark plug boots at 100k. After 92k the bike had a slight misfire until round 98k when it quit running...I adjusted my valves, the exhaust valve on cylinder 1 became tight and now it runs perfectly. I do all my own maintenence except for this last one where just didn't have time and took it into the shop. I change my own tires and do most of the regular recommended service maintenance. The fairings aren't hard to remove and the airbox only takes about 15 minutes to get to. The bike isn't hard to work on by any means, and is dead reliable. Sucks that ol boy got a lemon, but I love my 1000 its the best bike I've ever owned and she goes anywhere I ask her to. Yeah she's heavy, but I'm a big boy so thats OK with me.
