    On 4/28/22, this part jumped up to $418.34 - do you know if anyone has had luck with the copycat parts? I've seen them as low as $26 up to $135. I'm going to attempt this weekend and I'm hoping it will just need a cleaning.

    Great video, it worked for me like a charm. So far no more annoying clicking noise. There was mention to be careful when prying the tabs on the sides or they break off, may I offer a suggestion. Take any can and cut a half dozen strips, 1/4" wide about an inch long. Then carefully pry each tab and insert the tab from the top side of the control. This keeps the tab from re closing as you move around the control. When all tabs are in, a small screwdriver will pry the two halves apart as there are no plastic claws holding the two halves together. I got the whole thing apart with no broken tabs.

    Thank you sir. I should have seen this video b4 buying a used one on eBay for $30 that is actually not working either. It turned out that the contacts are dirty. I cleaned both the bay and my original one and now they both work. I actually broke the locking clip on the largest white gear one one of them on my first try , so I'm glad I had the ebay one as a spare. I heated the white gear locking clip with heat gun to make it softer when prying it so it won't break. I didn't have dielectric grease but there was a blob inside the casing and I just applied it to the part where the pins make contact Thanks again

    Great video! I have been wondering for years which actuator was bad on my wife's MDX. Curiously, the dealership never diagnosed it. By the way, that build up on the contacts is not corrosion, but rather electroplating- the transfer of metallic molecules from physical contact while being electrically charged. Again, this was a lifesaver and answered many questions for me!

    2006 Odyssey making the noises and only able to change from full hot to full cold. The problem part was on the driver side and a little bit different. This video was the first one I found that involved opening the case and cleaning the parts instead of just replacing the whole part. Fantastic! Spent $10 on some dielectric lubricant and fixed my issues with some labor. One other add, as pooped off some dash panels I came across the cabin temp sensor, I removed this from the panel and quickly realized it was clogged with dust bunnies. A quick blast from the air compressor on low 40-50 psi cleaned the sensor out. Overall this video is a winner!

    Great video, thanks for posting. I fixed my 2006 Acura MDX. The hardest part was getting the metal rod removed from the black clip. Once this was achieved, it was fairly easy. I would caution everyone to be very gentle when prying the motor apart. Go very light on lifting those tabs up as they are very brittle. My issue was the wheel and contacts being dirty. Cleaned those and put some new grease on, clicking sound gone. Good luck!

    I wish, but no yoga pants I see. I call my thermal long under wear my yoga pants. Just thinking about putting them away for the season. Nice fix, Oz. If you took it to a dealer they would just replace that motor/gearbox. You can't blame them really. If they opened it up and fiddled with it and got it working, but it quit again in 2 weeks the owner would be all up in your face. For that kind of money You and I will take a chance. If I was a dealer tech no way, not going to give the customer that chance to scream at me. Nice video. I assume there are similarities between all the different makes of those controllers. Will help. It is a little intense and I really don't know what to do now haha. I really need to have a bit more of a structure when I do it again and some moderators I suppose. I did not expect that let me tell ya haha. I have to do a little bit of research on how to do it the right way before I do it again. Have you done one yet or messed with it at all?

    I have not live streamed on Ytube yet because I figured a low turnout would be an embarrassment to myself. lol You did a great job, answering questions and mixing up the questions and responses. Everyone is aware that you can only read and comment on one subject at a time. Schedule a specific amount of 'live' time, announce it to the peeps in the chat room and then roll with it like you did! Perfection. If my parole officer says i can moderate for you i'll do it but he's not a fan of yoga pants. Just sayin haha

    nice video, i went to a salvage yard to try and remove one there first before trying it on my own car. the problem at the yard was that i broke the arm off of the plastic linkage as i couldn't find where it connected to. Is it possible to gently slide the plastic off of the actuator to remove it faster?

    Why dielectric grease? If there is bad contact wouldn't you want conducting grease? The video is very helpful - I used it on my car and it works - the only difference was that I used conducting grease

  • @ozzstars_cars

    @ozzstars_cars

    Silicone grease (dielectric) prevents electrolytes from forming and while preventing corrosion also lubricates the contacts. I have used it for 20 years and never had a continuity issue. Thanks for your comment!

    Mine was having the same problem with the sound. Many times, it would also get stuck with warm air until I adjusted all the way on cold to make it "unstick" for that drive. I just repaired it as described -- the sound is gone, it looks like it's moving the cable great -- but is now stuck only in hot! Any clues on what might have gone wrong?

  • @jaredchristensen6212

    @@ozzstars_cars it pretty much didn't change. I tried first thing in the morning and the air was ambient, but as the car warmed up the air got warmer, eventually just hot. As I moved the cable manually it didn't change much, if at all. With the cable unattached to the mix motor, when I raise and lower the temperature from the dash board, everything else seems normal. It still affects where the air is directed ( to the floor for what would be heat, upper sections for what would be cool). Fan speed is also normal, moving to a faster speed the more extreme I push the temperature higher or lower (with the temperature staying the same, in this case, of course) I took the glove compartment out and removed cabin air filter cover -- but left the fan on -- the air coming in is cool/ambient (couldn't tell, as it was early in the morning), so I guess it's warming up after that point?
