I like that we get a real glimpse at how much of a seasoned magical girl Mami is. She spends the first few minutes of this video shooting every bullet so that they stop Homura's bullets from hitting Bebe. She's a strategic genius.

@@TheLordSheogorath but that just proves how great Mami truly is to keep up with Homura. Homura has repeated the same month about a hundred times getting stronger each time, which is a few years. More years than Mami had been a magical girl so for Mami to keep up is impressive on her part.

If you guys are wondering Why She didn't die.. She probably thought it was the only way to make Mami let her guard down, allowing her to see and brake the ribbon Mami attached to her ankle. There was a chance Mami would let her "kill" herself, but Homura didn't care, since she can't die from being shot in the head, because her soul gem is not in her head, but in her hand. If she had tried to commit suicide she would have pointed the gun at her hand. Mami doesn't know that magical girls only die if their soul gem is destroyed, so Homura took advantage of that. :3 There you go.

Well, Mami only fights with ribbons and one-shot muskets. Meanwhile, Homura has a whole range of weapons to choose from. I don't really see how she fights short range that much.

m9panther Mami's muskets being one-shot doesn't matter if she can generate a huge number at once and fire them without using her hands. Her ribbons has a vast range of uses and have in fact defeated Homura twice already in the TV series. We see Mami fight close range by using her rifle as a club in the TV series. She also defeats Kyoko in "The Different Story" manga using a number of close combat moves. Homura on the other hand has a over-reliance on her magic. Most of Homura's fights simply ended with Homura shooting or sticking explosives on a time stopped opponent and would would have little experience in fighting any other way.

I see your point, but shooting and explosives are her style of fighting and there is nothing wrong with that. It took years going back in time to learn how to improve her skills in firearm combat. As for the "over-reliance on her magic," I think her time-altering abilities are a great compliment to her way of fighting. Some people would even say that she is over-powered. When she fought Walpurgisnacht, she proved that she could be a one-woman army with ease.

m9panther Err... I think you miss my point or forgotten what we're talking about... There's nothing wrong with Homura's fighting style and it *absolutely* is OP. But this means that even though she's fought so many battles over so many time cycles, most of Homura's fights would have just been her shooting at or sticking C4 on the arse of an time frozen enemy. This means despite her many battles, Homura would have very little experience fighting a battle like the one she fights against Mami here, with her time stop ability being completely neutralised. Mami is a natural genius magic girl who could defeat witches that groups of magic girls had to retreat from, even when she was still a newbie. With that in mind, I think Homura did extremely well to fight her to a stand still.

I really love Mami`s fighting style, it`s just so beautiful x3

Mami is truly unappreciated ): A lot more people pay more attention to her rack, rather than she herself.

Naomi Tenshi Mami is a genius, unfortunately she got too full of herself in the series and didn't concentrate and anticipate hence her fate. Seriously though everything from the apartment scene to this one shows how excellent she is.

Homura is actually my favorite character in this series. People don't like her because they don't even understand the big picture. I'm guessing the main audience watching this is under 18. Homura is strong enough to not let her emotions get in the way of what needs to be done. She is not being selfish. She knows the future and knows nobody will listen to reason because she tried that and it failed. When you think about it, the whole series is really about homura, not madoka. Madoka would not be what she became without Homura.

Leon Yang I wouldn't say that. Kyoko's beauty is in her simple straightforwardness and (sometimes brutal) honesty. She doesn't get caught up in the complicated stuff, and instead single-mindedly focuses on what she needs to do. The fact that Kyoko's own wish indirectly killed her entire family, but she _didn't_ turn into a witch, shows that she has surprisingly strong mental fortitude. While Kyoko and Sayaka are officially paired, Kyoko also shows a lot of compatibility with Homura - Being two people who are able to relate to each other's issues, and both sharing a pragmatic way of doing things. The fact that Kyoko is the first person Homura goes to for help, both in the TV series and again in Rebellion, is probably a nod towards this bond.

Dragonfeathers um... but homura does have an endless amount of guns and many bullets in a single gun. Mami has to shoot, drop the gun and summon a new one every single time.

What facinates me is that my mom hates dark and violent stuff, but when I took her to see this with me in the movie theater (I'm kinda underage, so I couldn't go alone), she liked it a lot. Like mother like daughter I guess?

Homura has probably a decade of experience or so, and Mami was still owning her. Also, even more impressive is that she rarely fought at full power because she was one of few magical girls who killed familiars and shared their seeds with others. She is a total badass. I am glad manga spin offs did her justice. She was a legend among magical girls.

I loved this fight. Watching it again, I think I figured out when Mami made her clone. Around the 2:50 mark when all of the dust cloaks everything would have been a perfect time for her to do it.

This fight and movie are just absolutely stunning. I love the added in Homura-shooting-herself part. It was unexpected and pretty interesting. (Also Mami DID know that Homura wouldn't have died. Remember, this is the Mami from the real world/current timeline. She doesn't remember Madoka, but she does know the truth about magical girls. She said so in episode 12. She was probably caught off guard and forgot for a moment because well, a girl in front of you is shooting herself in the head. It's all so sudden you'd probably forget, too, since you'd be so used to humans actually dying from that.)

AltoCaramel All Mami really said in episode 12 was puella magi disappear if they use too much of their power, and that it sucks. She did not say anything to indicate she knew their soul gem was actually their soul, and the way she reacted to Homura shooting herself would support the idea that she still doesn't know, more than the notion that she simply _forgot_.

903IDFOLEY Mami knowing about soul gems disappearing after using too much power implies she knew everything else, too. Why would Kyubey decide to share that information with them after the creation of Godoka's new universe and not tell them anything else? Why would he share one thing that's a pretty big deal, but not share another thing that's equally as big of a deal? If you think about it, her forgetting the fact would be pretty realistic. I know I would probably forget. Magical girls are still human girls at heart and I don't think you can just completely convert to a "magical girl rules mindset" (random example: always aiming for the soul gem during fights etc) so easily. Mami has been known to be the most emotionally weak of the group, too, so it can be assumed that she is one who finds it difficult to forget or lose her humanity.

AltoCaramel Even in the new universe, Kyubey is still Kyubey. Meaning unless he is specifically asked, he will will not voluntarily do anything or tell you anything unless it serves his goals. In the new universe, it is in Kyubey's best interest to keep each puella magi alive for as long as possible, since Kyubey makes his energy quota by having the girls kill wraiths. Telling the girls they can die from magic over-use serves this purpose, so it makes sense Kyubey would tell them. On the other hand, the fact the girls are jewery/zombies/liches still carries the same shock and emotional trauma to them as it did in the old universe. And since this detail could hurt recruitment, Kyubey would be just as reluctant to tell them about this truth as he was in the previously universe. It's also possible the girls figure out the magic over-use thing on their own, since in the new universe they are no longer in direct competition with each other. The puella magi working in teams would witness one of their comrades disappearing to magic over-use, and they would share this information with other groups until it became common knowledge.

My gosh, this scene was so well animated. Brilliant fight sequence, love it!

It is only Japan that is accepted in　’Rebellion’. Because the original title is 'Equilibrium'.

Despite the ending of rebellion, Nomura is still one of my favorite characters ever. She gave up so much for Madoka, went through different timelines, and her life was completely messed up by the incubators. Wouldn't that make everyone insane after a while? Actually, Homura wasn't suppose to turn evil either. The producer wanted to have another plot twist, but idk if I liked it to much....

Mami is so classy. Even her bullets look beautiful and elegant 0:20 :)

This part is sooooo epic!

Easily my favorite scene out of this movie. This battle was freaking awesome!

"Ha! Your powers may be great, Mami, but I've come to know your every move as well as you do yourself. And I know exactly how to make you lower your guard. No amounts of tricks and baubles will help you- godfuckingdammit! Again with this ribbon shit?!"

i love how madoka was able to shoot mami in the soulgem during one of the timelines but even homura with her hardened self can't bring herself to do it. really shows an interesting divide between them.

Even Mami’s bullets are pretty! Everything about her is perfect.

People asking how she was able to shoot herself in the head and not die, yet conveniently forget that their bodies can sustain any number of damage and heal as long as their soul gem is intact and not depleted.

Here it is. THIS is what the fights should look like in SAO II! (except the magic thing). Anyway, this is certainly one of the best anime fights ever! The best scene of the movie for me.

makes the Matrix's action scene look like a couple of old arthritic men dooking it out ... Holly magic ribbon no juutsu, Day-man that was off everything, we are beyond the hook.

Best part of the movie.

Mami keeping up with Homura is a great feat. This shows how powerful both combatants are but also that Homura truly is the strongest when no one know the nature of her power. Even while handicapped, Homura still fought Mami to a stand still (IN PEAK FORM). I know she went through multiple timelines to increase her fighting capabilities which is ironic considering Mami said she would make the team Sayaka, Madoka, Kyoko, 100 times more powerful albeit this was an exaggeration. Both are calculating with Mami being the most skilled and experienced and Homura being able to dish out as much as she could take hence endurance. As natural rivals, they represent what Magical girls should be but with opposing ideals.

Even after the Timestop with the Suicid trap, Mami is God Tier

Homura hip fires what looks like a MG42 (probably not because of the double drum mag), this gun weights 11,4Kg and she fires it with one hand like it's nothing, best character.

No, I've watched the full movie about a dozen times. There is never any suggestion of insanity on Homura's part; You might be confusing the stories illustration on the deeply painful nature of love as 'insanity'. Homura at no time loses control of her mental faculties; and she acts with specific purpose through out the movie. She is the embodiment of Nietzche's 'ubermensche', staying true to PMMM's theme of symbolic exploration; rather than being a psychological series.

The fight was totally fucking epic, not bad for not being an overrated anime but I hate the fact that eventually they all have to come across with the tough fact of having to kill each other, but that's exactly what I kinda love and admire from this anime in particular, though this is suppose to be a "Magi Girl" kind of anime it is but in the same way it revolutionizes the whole meaning of it, love the idea, the author is a genius

パチュリーノーレッジ 不是武器和經驗的問題, 而是能力的問題 小燄的"時間停止"能力是一個非常不公平的能力. 作者本人也認同在對手不知道小燄能力的情況下, 小燄是全魔法少女中最強的. 而在小燄先出手, 偷襲, 暗殺和任何不給對手機會抵銷自己能力的情況下, 小燄是完全阻擋不了的.

I hope SHAFT makes an arcade game starring Homura going into a witch's barrier shooting familiars and kill a witch boss waiting at the end on each stage. That'd totally be the most coolest thing ever.

+Suwako Moriya What I forgot to mention was that it has to be a first person shooting game. The first player is homura and the second is the moe one. They meet each other in time paradox and decide the work together. There should be parts where they have to fight other magical girls like sub bosses as well, and with enough charge, they can stop time and shoot the enemies as we like. Just like any horror firstperson shooting game, we could make a puella magi version happen as well.

There's actually quite a lot of symbolism in how this fight goes down. One that really stands out to me, however, is the fact that Mami is chasing Homura. Homura's wish was to *protect* Madoka. She wants to defend her. Homura's fighting is defensive as She's moving away from Mami and Mami is offensive. The same thing is shown at 2:15 when Homura is on the ground kind of hiding her head and Mami stands above her.

Quite possibly my favourite anime fight scene ever. Shadow can use Chaos Control, and Sega gave him a gun. 2 problems: He can only hold 1 gun at a time and can't use his gun and Chaos Control at the same time. This is what would happen if he used, say, 10 guns _and_ Chaos Control at the same time. With that many guns, Homura should seriously consider a side job of Vault Hunting. Imagine what she'd do with some of _those_ guns. SWORDSPLOSION!!! anyone?

People don't understand Homura at all... She was not mean, nor bad, nor selfish. She just wanted to protect Madoka and determined herself to not let anyone interfere...

Mami has a ribbon connected to Homura s leg the whole time, so tecnically she is touching Homura (wich means her time stop hability doesnt have any effect on her). You can see it on 2:58 Althought, its shown early before the fight (and this video tecnically) starts.
